A/n: This was written from the inspiration of Valentine’s Day. Sadly, I do not know anything about the Japanese customs of Valentine’s Day, or even if they have a Valentine’s Day. If anyone has any information that they would be willing to offer, I will gladly accept it, and may write another fic once I know the Japanese customs. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Not that bad

Yamato had to get out of the classroom. Now. Before he embarrassed himself by laughing hysterically. The movie his teacher was showing in spirit for Valentine’s Day was just too funny. It was just so fake and the acting was horribly done. Yamato raised his hand in hopes to gain his teacher’s attention.

“Yes, Mr. Ishida?”

“Um…may I use the restroom?” His teacher must have seen the grin that would not leave his lips, for the elderly man reluctantly agreed. When his teacher had finally nodded his assent, Yamato was up and out the classroom’s door. Once the door was safely shut, Yamato couldn’t help but to laugh at the movie his teacher had claimed was “phenomenal.”

Yamato still couldn’t believe all the red and white paraphernalia that covered his school’s once light blue walls. He hated Valentine’s Day. He truly did. He wasn’t sure when this hatred for the 14th of February had started, but as he had saw all the red and white, and he had been forced to watch a crappy romance movie, the hatred came back in full.

Without anywhere else to go, and not wanting to get into trouble if he was caught wandering the halls, Yamato headed for the boy’s bathroom.

He had thought no one else had been in the restroom, until he heard an odd sound, almost like sniffling. Curious, the blonde listened intently until he heard it again. It was someone sniffling.

“Hello?” He said loudly. Hopefully loud enough to get the unknown person’s attention, but not too loud to scare the being.

Almost instantly, the small, sorrowful sounds stopped.

Yamato was really curious now. He looked around the stalls, not courageous enough to actually open them. And there, in a small space that separated the stalls from the wall, was a heartbreaking sight.

“Taichi?” Yamato asked incredulously. His best friend visibly flinched. His head was buried in his arms, which were resting on his bent knees. Yamato couldn’t see Taichi’s face, but he knew that the brown haired male was the one who had been, and still was, crying.

“…Go away…” Came the quiet reply.

The blonde was extremely surprised to see his best friend in such a depressed position. He was really shocked to see that it was Taichi Yagami who was crying in the boy’s bathroom.

Yamato knew that everyone thought of him as being the strong one, the one who hardly ever cried. The cold as ice type of person. But Yamato knew that Taichi had seen him cry a couple of times in the Digital World and in the real world.

But Yamato couldn’t remember a time when he had seen Taichi cry before. Even in the Digital World, that adventurous spirit never let him, that cheeky grin never left those lips, and that undying optimism never ceased to amaze everyone. He hadn’t even cried when jerks beat him up when the school had found out he was gay. Yamato was surprised to realize that he had never seen his best friend cry before. So he was doubly surprised to see that Taichi was crying in a place where anyone could walk in on him.

Blue eyes narrowed in concern, Yamato bent down on his knees so that he could be at eye level with Taichi. He placed a caring hand on the distraught teen’s shoulder.

“Taichi? What happened?” He asked softly, using that gentle voice he usually reserved for Takeru when he was crying.

“Nothing, now go away.” Taichi answered though his voice broke from the silent sobs that were wracking his body. “I don’t need you laughing at me.” Now Yamato was extremely worried.

“Why would I laugh at you, Tai?” The brown haired teen just shrugged, which was a hard feat considering his odd position. Tired of not being able to see his best friend’s eyes, Yamato gentle placed a hand underneath Taichi’s chin and pushed up, encouraging him to look up. Thankfully, Taichi did, his brown eyes seemed to darken from sorrow, but the crystal tears made the color seem to almost sparkle. But Yamato knew that Taichi’s eyes didn’t sparkle unless he was happy or excited or energized. And the poor distraught teen was none of those emotions.

Taichi was keeping his eyes adverted to the wall, so that he wouldn’t have to look at his best friend.

“Tai, what happened?” Matt tried again. Taichi let out a shaky breath, before finally turning his eyes towards the blonde.

“You’re not going to let me suffer in peace, are you?” He questioned. Yamato would have been hurt by the angered tone, but he knew that Taichi liked to replace anger with any other emotion he didn’t like. Sadness being one of them.

“I really want to know what’s making you so sad, Tai.” Yamato told him softly. “I would never want to make you “suffer” by yourself.” He paused to give a small smile. “Please tell me?” Taichi adverted his eyes once again and drew in a deep breath before letting it back out again.

“Kenji broke up with me.” Taichi told him, closing his eyes. Yamato’s eyes narrowed again. He really, really hated Valentine’s Day.

“What kind of person breaks up with someone on Valentine’s Day?” He demanded. Taichi smirked sadly, his eyes open once again, but he still kept his gaze on the wall. Yamato was once again surprised. Taichi had been talking a week ago about how he didn’t think things were working out with his boyfriend, and was even considering breaking up with Kenji, so Matt was confused as to why Taichi was taking this break up so harshly.

“I thought that you were planning on breaking up with him, though.” Yamato asked. “So my best friend instincts are telling me that that wasn’t all that happened.” Taichi shook his head slightly, but didn’t say anything.

“Please tell me, Taichi.” Yamato pleaded gently. Sighing heavily, Taichi still kept his eyes on the wall.

“He…He told me that he was just playing with me, and that he was only going out with me for…for a dare. They wanted to see if I would really fall for it.” Taichi paused and closed his eyes. “I guess I’m an idiot for thinking that he would like me.”

“Taichi, you’re not an idiot, don’t say that.” Yamato told him shocked.

“He said that all I was, was a faggot and that he couldn’t believe that I would think that he would like me.” A single tear fell down his lightly tanned face, and Yamato gently brushed it away.

“Taichi.” He said softly. As he brushed away the crystal tear, he used his other hand to lift Taichi’s chin back so that Taichi was look at him. The distraught male’s eyes opened in shock.

Their eyes locked, Yamato’s hand still cupping Taichi’s face tenderly.

“What color are your eyes, Taichi?” Yamato asked, breaking the silence. Taichi gave him an odd look. If he had been expecting the blonde to say something, it defiantly wasn’t that.

“Um…brown.” He stated still giving his best friend a look that clearly said that he though Yamato had lost his mind.

Yamato tilted his head, and got closer to Taichi.

“Hm…no I don’t think so.” He told him softly, his pale hand contrasted with the tan on Taichi’s face. “I think that you just have a dark amber color. Because if you look closely,” the blonde moved closer, “you have these beautiful golden streaks mixed with different shades of gold. Some of the colors are really dark, which, when you don’t look for it, make your eyes look brown.” Taichi opened his mouth to say something, but, still surprised, no words came out.

“Everyone says that my eyes are so astonishing and beautiful,” Yamato continued, “but I think yours deserve more credit than what people give them. They are really quite beautiful Taichi.” They were so close to each other, that they could both feel the other’s heated breath.

Yamato thought he scared Taichi when he felt the other male move, but was surprised to feel soft lips pressing against his. It wasn’t anything passionate, nothing more than what Yamato would have given to Takeru on his forehead. But it sent shocks of pleasure through both of them.

Taichi instantly pulled back, fear showing in his darkened gold depths.

“I’m sorry, Yama. It’s j-just that no one has ever said something like that to me. And I have liked you for so long, a-and I feel so sad and you always know how to comfort me and make me feel better. I just feel so right with you, and—“ Taichi was gently cut off as he felt a kiss being placed softly on his lips. When Yamato pulled back, Taichi was staring at him, still shocked.

“Yama…” He breathed softly. Yamato continued to look at him, his blue eyes unreadable. The blonde felt that he had never seen Taichi look so cute before. He had never thought of Taichi as cute before. Sexy, maybe, or hot, but never cute and adorable. He leaned in for another kiss, and found no resistance.

Taichi was the one who pulled back first this time.

“Yama?” He questioned, not needing to put the thought to words. They both knew what he was trying to say.

“You better get used to hearing things like that Taichi.” Yamato told him, cupping Taichi’s face again. “You’re going to be hearing them a lot. I’ve got a whole book full of them.” Taichi’s eyes widened in surprise.

“But…But, I thought that you were straight?” He asked, wanting to confirm that his dream was actually coming true.

“We all have our secrets, Taichi.” Yamato told him gently. “I bet you never knew that I have dreams about you almost every night. And I bet that you never knew that I love to go to your soccer practices, even though I complain about it every time. I bet you never knew that every time something goes wrong you’re eyes darken. I bet you never knew that most of the love songs I write for my band are meant to be for you.”

“Yama.” Taichi gasped, tears gathering in his eyes. A single crystal drop escaped and fell down his tanned face. Yamato smiled softly before brushing it away gently.

“I was supposed to be keeping you from crying, Taichi, not causing you to do so even more.”

“I'm sorry.” Taichi told him, smiling. “I have never felt so happy in my life.” Yamato chuckled.

“Then why are you crying?” He asked still laughing slightly. Taichi buried his face in Yamato’s chest, wrapping his arms around the blonde’s waist. Yamato held him close to him.

“I don’t know.” Taichi said. Yamato gave him a gentle squeeze.

“I didn’t even get to get you a Valentine’s Day gift.” He joked. Taichi chuckled.

“But I thought that you hated Valentine’s Day.”

“I do.” Yamato smirked. “Really I do. But I wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to buy you a gift.”

“I don’t want a gift, Yama. But I wouldn’t say no to a kiss.” Yamato gladly granted him his wish.

When the bell rang for the end of the period, they both agreed that they should head for their next class, so that they wouldn’t get into trouble for skipping. Walking down the hall, they heard obnoxious laughter coming from where both of their lockers where located.

“I couldn’t believe it either.” Someone snickered. “Talk about a faggot. All of them are the same. Never saying no to anyone.” More laughter answered the remark.

The new couple was getting closer to the small crowd of males.

Pushing his way through the burly teenagers, Yamato made his way up to their leader, Kenji.”

“Hey Yamato.” The red head greeted him amiably. “What’s going on?” His green eyes found Taichi and he smirked evilly. “What are you doing with a faggot like him?” Yamato could feel Taichi tense up beside him.

Yamato couldn’t help it. He swung his clenched fist and was satisfied when he felt it impact with Kenji’s face. Getting a hold of Taichi’s hand, he didn’t even look back as he walked down the newly decorated halls.

He glanced at Taichi, who was grinning. Pleased, Yamato looked up and saw the red and white streamers and ribbons and posters everywhere on the school’s walls once again. Valentine’s Day wasn’t that bad.

He glanced back at Taichi and saw his koi’s darkened gold eyes. No, not bad at all.

A/n: It went totally different from where I was originally planning to have it go, but I still loved it. I hope you all liked it just as much.
