"Well," Sango said happily at the end of another school day, "It looks like our little plan was a total and utter success."
"Oh?" Miroku stated curiously, half a question in his voice. He slung his arm across Sango's shoulders as they walked to her locker, his easy confidence and flirtatious demeanor as firmly in place as always. "If I had a hand in it then success is assured. But... Just what plan might you be talking about?"
Sango smirked. "Kagome and Inuyasha, of course. They've obviously fallen quite madly for each other– and we hardly had to lift a finger. Who'd have ever imagined they'd come together so quickly on their own?"
"Perhaps it's... destiny?"
She snorted. "Right. Unlikely, Roku darling– I'm inclined to believe in pure, animal attraction." Gracefully, she ducked out of his semi-embrace and started fiddling with the combination lock hooked on her locker.
"I forgot," Miroku said, more to himself than Sango. "You've never really been one for believing in romance, have you?"
"Hmm? Did you say something?"
He gave her an easy smile as she shot him a glance and shook his head. "No. If, perhaps, I've begun vocalizing the poetic stream of thought that runs rampant in my mind, then–"
Sango was by then clearly ignoring him. "We had homework for sixth period, didn't we? Damn it, I hate Myouga..." She rummaged through her things for a moment, moving books and binders from her bag to her locker, or from her locker to her bag.
Something new had made an appearance in her locker, however, and in a great deal of confusion she watched a heavy white envelope flutter to the ground. "Huh... What's this? I don't remember putting something like this in here."
Miroku snatched it out of her hand and turned it over, examining it.
"Hey!" Sango exclaimed. "Give that back." He just grinned. She rolled her eyes. Carefully, he took out the two sheets of paper the envelope had housed. He raised an eyebrow as he read it. "Oh... My, my, my Sango dear, it appears as though you have yourself a secret admirer."
"What!" Sango quickly took the letter away from him, her face turning red. "Let me see that." She scanned the letter quickly, eyes widening with every word she read. "I... I guess you're right," she said awkwardly, stuffing the letter into her bag. "But it's mine– and you shouldn't read things like that without permission."
Miroku bowed his head. "My apologies, fair maiden. It won't happen again." However, he couldn't help himself. "Who wrote it?"
Her face grew even redder. "I d-don't know. I didn't see a name." She picked up her bag and slung it over her back. "Now come on. It's time to go."
"Hmm." Miroku followed her towards the door. "Well, ignoring the rather obvious subject change..." He grinned. "When you discover his identity, you simply must tell me. I can't have someone threatening my place in your heart."
Sango snorted in laughter. "Oh very funny, Miroku. You're my best friend! No one could push you out– you're like a leech."
He half-heartedly laughed as well. "That's right. I'll always be your friend."
-Author's Excuse: Ok, I admit it. I have none. No excuse, I mean. However! I had this so I decided to post it. I'm still working on fixing the previous chapters up. Eventually I will get this finished. (Actually, I have a lot of the later stuff written. Heh.) I'm going to try to go and fix it chapter by chapter. I already have most of the re-done chapter one complete, surprisingly enough. There is good news, however. I have two sess/kagu stories in the works. Expect the first chapter of one to be up soon. Thanks! (And I'm sorry. I'm a bad, bad little author. I know this; I accept this. I'm sorry. Really sorry.)
