Of Heroes

By Ryoga’s best friend and RBF Disciple

A/N- Well I’m admittedly surprised at the stories popularity but I’m not one to ask questions. (Visions of hamtaro fics haunting his thoughts) Gah!... Anyway I’m glad to return and bring you the next part with the help of my Slav- I mean disciple.

Chapter 2

It was early the next day that found Ranma staring at the ceiling of his hotel room thinking back to the fight. He’d been running it over in his head but was coming up short with any short of answers on those ‘titan’ people. The green kid had changed into a rhinoceros and he didn’t even get hit by water…was it some kind of evolved from of Jusenkyo? Could he expect a similar thing to happen to him? The girls…they could fly which in itself was something to take note of. The only person he’d met who could fly was the Prince Of the Musk tribe Herb, “That was a hard fight…does that mean they’re at least as powerful as him? He was powerful enough to blow up a mountain top.” he wondered aloud. The red head was throwing energy around like it was nothing, even he would have been at least a little winded after expelling so much but she didn’t seem phased. The girl in blue on the other hand seemed to be manipulating her energy with more skill, forming shields and subduing guys without having to even touch them… “Man that would come in useful against Kuno. The less I have to touch him the better.” He joked a bit before getting back to his thoughts. He’d have to learn that trick for sure. Next was the tall robot guy, he wore such strange armor. Which wasn’t too odd…it was the fact his hand disappeared and he shot a beam of energy like it was nothing. It didn’t add up at all. In fact the only one he could make sense of was Robin. “The kid was good, I’ll grant him that…not as good as me of course but still good,” he allowed. The pigtailed boy’s musings were interrupted by a knock at his door. “Come in, s’open…” he called to not bothering to even sit up.

“Morning Saotome.” Greeted the cool voice of Nabiki as she came into view, still wearing her Pajamas. Ranma narrowed his eyes but replied with slight mirth.

“Wow yer up. Normally I don’t see you face until the crack of noon…” the middle Tendo gave a thoroughly fake look of hurt which he ignored. “What do you want?”

“Well…” she began casually, which meant she knew something. “I did some snooping yesterday on those ‘teen titans’ you mentioned yesterday. Very interesting stuff.” She said with a smile. Ranma sat up thrilled.

“Really that’s great what did yo-“ he stopped when he realized her smile had a different meaning. “How much it this gonna cost me?” he asked begrudgingly.

“I since I was dragged off so rudely yesterday I didn’t get a chance to do much shopping… I’d say 40 dollars US should to cover my wasted time. Ranma glared at her but only met her icy gaze in return.

“Fine.” He grumbled grabbing his wallet from the night stand taking several bills out. After a momentary hesitation he hands them over to the middle Tendo who smirked in returned.

“I knew you’d see it my way.” She said rolling up the bills and sticking them his her bra due to lack of pockets. “Now down to business.” She said taking a seat at the end of the martial artists bed. “All right the Teen titans are a group of Super heroes, the five you met we-“ she started but Ranma raise his hand, which was actually quite amusing. “yes?”

“What the heck is a super hero?” he asked puzzled, Nabiki pause for a moment trying to think of a good answer.

“Well a super hero is someone with super human ability who helps people. Fighting off dangerous people, stopping robberies, that kind of thing.” She said trying not to snicker as Ranma looked thoughtful.

“Does that mean I’m a super hero?” he asked still confused. Nabiki went silent, she was originally going to shoot down the dumb comment, but when she thought about it he fit the bill quite well. Though she was inclined to agree she decided not to stroke his ego.

“Nah, I don’t think so.”

“Oh…okay.”

“Can I keep going now?”

“Sure, yah. Go ahead.”

“Where was I?” Nabiki asked herself. “Oh yeah, now I remember, The Titans.”

“Robin is the boy with the yellow and black cape, black eye-mask, black hair, and red costume. His specialty is martial arts; he’s one of the best martial artists in the country.” She explained, and then she continued. “Cyborg, the one with the wires and metal implants on his body, is a boy with robotic body parts. Because of these parts, he’s incredibly strong and also has the ability to use these parts in odd ways, such as transforming his right arm into a gun and shooting a beam of energy. He is also very educated in the ways of technology.”

She stopped for a second. “Any questions so far? Good!” She said as she got up and stretched, while not giving Ranma any time to answer her question.

“Beast Boy is the green one. He has the power to transform into any animal on the face of the earth, be it a bird, moose, rat, tiger, or anything else you could think of. This gives him advantages in almost any situation.”

“Starfire is the tall girl with red hair. She was born and raised on a far off planet known as ‘Tamaran.’ These people have special abilities like super strength, flight, and the ‘starbolt’ ability which is creating and shooting balls of energy from her bare hands. All of these powers make her a worthy adversary to anyone.”

“Raven is a mysterious one. She was born and raised in a place called ‘Azarath.’ She uses magic chants and abilities which are channeled through her emotions and let out in ways never thought possible. She mostly uses these powers for telekinetic abilities, which is the power to move things with your mind, but she can also use this power to create shields, move through walls, and even fly. She wears a dark blue cape and leotard. One of the only known ways she can use her powers is if she chants a few ‘magic words.” Nabiki stopped and stood up, then looked over toward the door of the room and held her hands up to mimic the actions of raven. “Azarath Metrion Zinthos!” She shouted as the door and the wall attached to it came tumbling down. Nabiki was surprised for a moment, but then almost laughed when she saw Ryoga standing in the doorway.

“Hey guys, I got lost while trying to find your room, so I just started going into random rooms until I found you. Man, Americans aren’t really that nice.” Ryoga stated.

“Ryoga, my room is right across the hall from yours, how could you have gotte-” Ranma asked but then stopped because he noticed he was talking to Ryoga, the king of getting lost while doing even the simplest of tasks. He sighed and grabbed his forehead “Why the hell are you even here… I don’t recall sending you an invitation. Much less seeing you on the plane.” Ryoga for his part looked embarrassed.

“I told you, I was working part time at the airport and I got lost in the cargo area…before I could get out they had already taken off…”

“Idiot” Ranma grumbled causing the lost boy to jump from embarrassed to angry in a nanosecond.

“What was that! Say that again I dare you!” He threatened fist clenched.

“Argh. Whatever, I’m gonna go walk around town. Maybe something interesting will happen.” Ranma said with a wave as he walked out the large hole in the wall and started toward the elevator.

“Where the hell do you think your going Saotome?” Ryoga growled following close behind.

“damn if I stay here the hotel might blame me for this…Wait up!” Said Nabiki, as she hurriedly walked out of the room, hoping that the maid would clean up the mess.

After much searching for the others, Ranma and the other Tendo family members are now outside observing American city-life. “Wow, look at all the tall buildings!” Ryoga said in amazement while cocking his head upward to see the top of the buildings.

Ranma zoned out for a bit thinking about the titans. “Nabiki said they were super heroes. I gotta go check out more of what they can do! Especially Robin, maybe I can give him a few pointers for his fighting style.” Ranma thought to himself, with a smirk while following the rest of the group. Ranma looked around with the others, then noticed a large T-shaped building. Ranma remembered Nabiki, while blabbing about other things about the city to the group, mentioned the titans lived in a giant T-shaped building known as Titans Tower.

Ranma waited until Nabiki wasn’t paying attention to him to sneak away through a back alley toward the tower. Closer and closer Ranma rushed toward it. “I’m almost there.” He told himself as he got to a pier with a carnival. He walked along the pier looking for a bridge, but found nothing. “How am I supposed to get over to the tower without getting wet?” he said out loud to himself while sitting down in front of the line for the Ferris wheel ride to think. He thought for a good hour but thought of nothing.

The sun had gone down by now, and Ranma had thought of everything. “There’s no way I can get over there without getting wet, so in I go…” He said to himself with a sigh. He jumped in and started swimming. Wasn’t long before he got there, “Not too bad, refreshing almost” Ranma said to herself, now in girl form.

Ranma walked over to the front door. “Wow, they got a nice living space here.” She said, not even inside yet. She observed the door and determined he could take it down in one swift easy punch. Unfortunately, he determined wrong and just dented it. He hissed and shook his hand. “Damn that was hard…who would need a metal door anyway?” She grumbled rubbing his fist a little he noticed a small red button to the left to the door. After a moment he slowly pushed it and the door opened with a ‘swoosh’. Ranma chuckled nervously with a sweatdrop. “Glad nobody saw that…” she said softly walking inside, the door shutting behind her.

Up in the main lounging area the titan’s relaxed. The alarm had been silent all day, so it was a welcomed reprieve. Beast boy sat off in the kitchen jamming out to some of his tunes with his Walkman as he made a large snack. Raven meditated by the window…it wasn’t the quietest place but her friends were around so it was…cozy. Meanwhile the TV was occupied by Robin and Cyborg battling it out in a fighting game as Starfire watched on with interest cheering for both of them. It was an even match but the mechanical man was starting to pull out a win. “Just a matter of time bird boy.” He taunted receiving a frown from the martial artist.

“Its not over yet…”

“oh yes it is. Man it’s hard being so great.” Cyborg continued to boast when the sensor on his arm started to beep. “Huh?” he glanced down at it for a second and there was an explosion on screen followed by ‘Robin wins!’ in huge letters. “Hey no fair!”

“Snooze you lose Cyborg.” Robin said with a smirk. The black teen glared his friend for a moment before he sighed.

“Whatever, my sensors say someone entered the tower.” He said in a serious voice causing Robin’s laid back attitude to disappear instantly.

“Could you identify them?”

“No, they don’t match anyone in the database..” he said seriously pushing some buttons so it appeared on the main screen. Both Raven and beast boy looked up to see a short red head wandering up the stairs of the tower. The titans gathered around the screen confused.

“She doesn’t appear to be in a hurry…” Starfire said with a sweatdrop as the girl paused by one of the computer terminals pushing random buttons and scratching her head before moving on.

“Or all that threatening…” Raven said equally confused, “Though there is some magic coming off of her…I’ve seen it before, but where…hmmm”

“She’s cute though.” Beast Boy said bluntly getting glares from his team…slightly harsher from the two girls. “what!”

“Nevermind that.” Robin said seriously. “She’s still an intruder and we should find out what’s going on. Let’s go!” he said and his team followed right behind, intent on capturing and questioning the intruder.

“Damn this place. It’s too big, I can’t believe only five people live here.” Ranma said to herself as looked around a large room towards the top of the giant T. As she head back to the endless stair case her danger sense kicked in. She froze and a blue beam hit right at her feet. She looked up to see all five teens ready for battle. “What the hell was that for?” she said with a frown.

“You better surrender and tell us why are here.” Robin said coolly as Cyborg leveled his ‘arm’ as her.

“I Just came to visit.” Ranma said quite annoyed at the hostility.

“Visit?” Raven said with narrowed eyes. “We don’t even know who you are.”

“What the hell are you talking about? We met yesterday!” she shot back confused and frustrated. “We stopped a bank robbery for kami shake!”

“Bank robbery! A guy named Ranma helped us out yesterday.” Cyborg said gruffly aim never wavering. “If you were gonna try and fool us at least be the right gender.” He said rolling his eyes. Ranma finally remembered she was in her cursed form and reddened slightly from embarrassment.

“Oh that… You see I’m under a curse. I changed when I swam over to your tower and all-“ Ranma was cut off the a very puzzled beast boy.

“Wait. You swam here!”

“Yeah It’s only like two, three miles tops.” The red head said with a shrug. “That’s nothing.” The five of them just stared at her for a moment. Ranma sighed “Look if ya just get me some warm water I can prove it to ya.” She said crossing her arms over her breasts. Raven’s eyes seemed to light up for a moment as Robin began to speak again.

“Now your just getting silly, just tell us why y-“

“Get her the water.” Raven said simply. The other for looked to her unsure why she suddenly spoke up.

“But Raven. I do not see what water has to do with gender…” Starfire said with a small frown. The cloaked girl merely shook her head.

“Just trust me.” she said simply. The stand off was silent while the Tameran flew up to the kitchen and returned with a glass of water. Ranma smiled accepting the glass and promptly dumped it over her head. The titans watched in amazement as the petite red head grew into the martial artist that they’d met yesterday.

“Happy now…” Ranma said crossing his arms in annoyance.

“Dude…” Beast Boy said filling in the silence. Raven gave a nod before she spoke up.

“Jusenkyo… I had read about it some time ago, but I heard it was destroyed.” She said calmly well the other titans remained silent. Ranma scratched the back of his head.

“Well I got my curse over a year ago, It’s pretty common where I live. It only recently got destroyed though, that was a few months ago…it’s partly my fault. I didn’t mean to, it just kinda happened…” He said somewhat embarrassed. Causing all the titans to look back to him.

“You accidentally destroyed an ancient magical site?” Raven said with a raised eyebrow. Ranma fiddled with his fingers a little under her cool gaze.

“Well I was battling Saffron at the time and I didn’t really have time to think I had to go all out…” he said a little softer, a small note of amazement could be seen on the girl’s face.

“You mean the Phoenix god Saffron?”

“Yeah that’s the one. Damn spoiled brat tried to burn me to a crisp.” The martial artist grumbled indignantly.

“What did you think you were doing fighting an immortal? That’s a death wish.” She said eyes narrowing with disbelief.

“Look I didn’t have a choice okay.” Ranma said glaring a little as the dark clothed girl. He turned his eyes away for a moment, eyes shadowed by his bangs. “…Look, it’s something I’d rather not talk about.” He said in a softer tone that caught Raven’s interest, something big must have happened there. Meanwhile the rest of the titans had been watching the ‘intruder’ and Raven go back and forth with large sweatdrops.

“Well I don’t know about you guys but I’m lost.” Cyborg said frankly finally lowering his gun arm which had turned back a normal hand.

“Yes. I do believe we have gotten off of Topic.” Starfire said slowly as she turned back to Ranma. “How did you get into our tower Ranma?” Ranma came out of his funk at the question and looked confused.

“The door was open… I just pressed the button.”

“Oh Yeah, I knew I forgot to do something.” Beast Boy suddenly spoke up catching everyone eyes turning to him. “Um…Sorry?” Robin sighed and shook his head.

“Sorry Ranma, guess this was all some big misunderstanding.”

“Ah don’t sweat it, happens to me all the time.”

“Well why don’t you come up to the main room an-“ Robin started to say before the alarm started to blare, red lights flashing. “Looks like talk time has to wait. Lets goo see what’s the problem.” He instructed, his team nodding and heading back for the main room.

“Hey, You need some help?” Ranma offered following behind the heroes at breakneck speed….
