Panning across the classroom, everyone's talking to someone. Even if he or she didn't want attention, though most everyone did. Mutou Yuugi was joking around with Jounouchi Katsuya, who proclaimed that Gramps was his family, so he technically did have a family member there. Mutou Sugoroku just smiled and laughed, thanking the blonde for his kindness. He didn't mention anything about Jounouchi not bringing his father. He'd found out from Yuugi why that wouldn't even need to be a question. But he was glad to feel like he was special to his grandson's closest friend.
Moving over, Mazaki Anzu had her mother with her, the woman looking close to exactly alike her child. Only her long auburn hair was pulled into a bun, blue eyes looking around the room as her daughter pointing out everything and who the people she knew were. Honda Hiroto, who stood next to Nosaka Miho, was holding his young nephew, Jouji, who was adamantly reaching for Miho's breasts. The violet-haired girl moved away slightly, laughing nervously, while the brunet kept smacking the boy in the back of the head.
Across the room, was a group of girls fawning over none other than Bakura Ryou, whom was holding a small child in his arms, trying to keep the poor thing from being woken up by all the questions being asked. He was smiling sheepishly, shying away from any forwards movement towards him.
Before too long, the teacher decided that there had been enough chattering and took her spot at the front of the class, clearing her throat. The students automatically shushed up, and she smiled sweetly at them all. "I'd like to thank those of you who were able to come today to join in on our special day." she began, hands behind her back, before she waved her hand up and continued. "You have the chance to come up and introduce yourself, and then your family member with us and tell a bit about them or why you chose them to come." she explained, before replacing her hand out of view. "Now...any volunteers?"
Yuugi was the first to jump up, dragging his aged grandfather with him in tow. "Mutou Yuugi," he started, before finally making it to the front of the class and smiling. "And this is my grandpa, Sugoroku! He owns the Kame Game Shop, so that's why I always have my puzzles and stuff." he said, then turned to the shorter to see if there was anything he'd like to add. "Um...Oh! He used to be an archeologist!" he continued, grinning proudly.
This went on for a bit, before the teacher asked if anyone had any questions. Some joker raised his hands and asked why they were both so short, in which Sugoroku told him it's what happens when you ask stupid questions like that. Yuugi just glanced around before slinking back to his seat, the old man following behind, chuckling like he'd made the best comeback of the century.
Anzu was second to volunteer, her mother smiling softly the whole way. The younger Mazaki explained how her mother had first gotten her interested in dancing, and other such things, before it went on to other subjects from there. Next up was Honda, who only muttered a few things about having to "baby-sit the brat" before going back to his seat. He didn't seem all that enthused -- for obvious reasons.
After that, no one was really too eager to go. And so the teacher had to start calling on people. The first of which was Bakura Ryou, since he seemed to be so popular. He flushed, before sighing and slowly getting up, moving to the front of the class. He cradled the young infant gently, obviously having experience. The baby was wrapped in a small blanket, hiding it almost completely from view. And so, he stood at the front of the classroom, feeling quiet uncomfortable with all those eyes on him. Most of the parents seemed to think if was his younger brother or sister, and looked like they admired how he took care of him/her. He turned slightly darker at that, before taking in a deep breath and starting. "Bakura Ryou," he began, before going on. "This is Amane," he explained, seeing Yuugi blink out of the corner of his eye.
The star-haired teen faintly thought he'd heard Bakura-kun had a sister... but he'd thought she'd be...older.
But Ryou trudged on, regardless of insecurity. "And she's..." he paused slightly, before shaking his head. "She's my daughter,"
... That statement certainly made everything come to a screeching halt. Faintly he acknowledged that one of the girls who followed him around choked. Even the teacher openly stared, her mouth open slightly.
"She's two months old, and I named her in respect of my sister, who doesn't live with us anymore..." he explained, keeping his eyes low. He hitched the small child up higher on his chest, causing the blanket to fall away, revealing the small, pale face and barely visible head of white hair. Amane repositioned her tiny hand, fisting it as best she could on her father's hair, which hung down just low enough for her to reach.
No one dared make a sound anymore, a few people actually looking somewhat upset at all of this. The nerve of getting someone pregnant at his age!
"I brought her today, because I wanted to take care of her." he continued, before moving to pet the small girl's back lovingly. "My father's in town, but he's busy today."
After that, it was obvious he was done with his little introduction. Clearing her throat awkwardly, the teacher threaded her fingers, laying them on her desk, before forcing herself to ask. "Mind telling who the mother is, or is that too personal?"
"She doesn't want anyone to know," he said softly.
"...Oh." And now it was more awkward. "So do you both switch of taking care of...Amane, or is there a different agreement?" This was her attempt in trying to get over the fact that the innocent, naive-looking boy, who was a fairly good student and who was never involved in anything bad... had a child. Which meant that he got someone pregnant. Which meant he'd had (possibly unprotected) sex...
"Uh..." the doe-eyed boy drawled, before gulping, deciding a way to best answer that. "She didn't want a child. She wanted to give her up for adoption..." he explained, before shifting his daughter slightly in his arms, holding her more protectively. "I've always wanted a daughter, and... I decided to take her, while...um... the mother left to get back to her life... But my friend helps out a lot."
It was against school rules to so much as date, and the pale boy knew this. And he was obviously quite embarrassed about the very fact that he'd "done the deed" and then been dropped like nothing. It had been a stupid mistake, anyway. But one can't take back actions once they'd passed. And so, Bakura Ryou made his way back to his seat, still continuing to keep his head down, while Jounouchi had to hold back patting him on the back and telling him; "Well, at least ya got laid!" But since this wasn't exactly the most appropriate time, he kept his mouth shut and just smiled at the boy.
And now, no one wanted to go period.
No more than an hour later, everyone had had their turn, and they were all (or almost all) back to conversing. The snowy-haired boy knew he was getting a few glances every now and then, though this was partially because of paranoia. Amane let out a barely audible cry, and Ryou lifted her up to check on what she needed. Figuring out that she was hungry, he moved to pull a small bottle from the bag at his feet, holding it gently to her mouth, smiling as she readily latched into the nipple, sucking out the formula. After a few moments, she was done and back asleep once more, sucking away on her pacifier. Yuugi watched all of this, along with Anzu, Jounouchi and Miho, (Honda being busy trying to change his cousin's diaper, of whom was making quite a loud fuss). All of those who witnessed this sight could plainly see that Bakura Ryou loved his daughter the way she should be loved.
"Hey, Bakura-kun!" the short teen called out, making Ryou lift his head. "Why don't you come over here with us?" The said boy smiled lightly, bending down to pick up the sack, which held all of the items Amane might need throughout the day. He walked over and set it down on a desk, sitting down in a vacant seat, still holding the small child tenderly.
"What color's her eyes?" Anzu asked, leaning forward, resting her head on her arms, smiling down at the sleeping infant.
"They're blue right now, but they'll probably change color when she gets a bit older," Ryou explained, brushing some hair out of his child's face. "She's not old enough for her eyes to develop color yet."
"Babies' eyes are almost always blue when they're born," Miho nodded, trying not to show how upset she was with knowing that her crush had slept with another girl.
And from there, conversation moved to other things like board games and favorite restaurants -- nothing too special.
And so when the final bell rang, Ryou made his way out of the school, still holding the child close to his chest, keeping her warm (he never seemed to put her down, anyway). He sang to her softly as he boarded the public bus, sitting near the back, since not as many people were sitting there. The stop to his apartment seemed to come up quickly, and so he got off, walking to the building in which he lived. His father didn't live too far away, but they both stayed apart.
Ryou climbed the stairs, since the elevator was broken, and pulled out the keys to room number 601. But just before he was able to insert the key, it was opened for him, and he was pulled into a large, rib-crushing hug, before being dragged into the room.
"God, I've been waiting for you since you left for school!" a blonde exclaimed, violet eyes flashing. Though the face and clothing looked somewhat feminine, the person was obviously male, dark brown skin was donned in jewelry, earrings jumping about his head whenever he moved. But the look on his face quickly faded, as he reached out and moved the blanket aside, gazing down at the two-month-old child. "Did you have any problems with her today?"
The paler one smiled, shaking his head. "No Malik, she's fine. You know I'd never let anything happen," The exotic boy pulled Ryou into a hug once more, keeping his arm wrapped about the other's shoulders.
"I know... I just get worried."
Ever since they had met, Malik and Ryou had made fast friends, and it took almost no time for the latter to tell the other his problems. First being that he'd done something really stupid... And second that he'd wound up with a pregnant girl. Malik loved children, and swore he'd help take care of it, even take it in if neither Ryou nor his girl wanted the child. But then again, the Egyptian had always been one of those people who, when he got close enough to someone, he latched on for life. He treated Ryou like a lover, even though they weren't.
The white-haired teen had learned a while ago that this was the other's normal behavior, and was now used to it. He didn't mind the spontaneous hugging or sudden bouts of...well, kissing. On the forehead, cheeks, neck, and even sometimes lips... They were normal. Completely, indifferently normal.
"I know," Ryou replied, smiling wider.
"Good," the Egyptian boy quipped, before adding; "And I'll continue to worry about you and Amane for as long as I live, because you know I'll never leave you...ever."
And with that, their conversation was ended with another one of Malik's ever-normal kisses.
