Chapter 7: The Inner City

Jacob and the Eds walked down the street. There was a towering building in front of them, with a small shop/bar to their left. Jacob reloaded his Desert Eagle with a fress clip of .50 caliber rounds. Suddenly, they heard a screech as a small red car zoomed down the street with a zombie hanging on to each door and one on the hood. The car swerved into several buildings, scraping off two of the zombies, but the one on the hood remained.

Edd raised his MP5K and fired on the zombie. It's back was riddled with bullets, and it's spleen, stomach, and heart fell out and off the hood, splattering on the streets. The zombie itself groaned, and rolled off the hood. The red car quickly drove out of the way of the boys, and screeched to a stop behind them. They ran over to see the driver shakily getting out of the seat. "Thanks for saving me," he said, as he walked, scared out of his wits, to a nearby basement.

The rear doors of a blue van to their right slammed open, and two axe zombies jumped out, ready to slice, dice, and serve up with a side of bacon. Jacob fired, the bullet traveling straight through the axe and into the zombie's eye. As it fell, Jacob turned slightly and fired off two shots into the other zombie's heart, and put one last bullet into it's brain when it fell to the ground.

The heroes of this story ran up some steps next to the van, which had a strangely identical one right beside it. Several zombies climbed the vans. One of them was shot by Ed, the weak, yet rapid, stream of bullets from his Skorpian pelting the undead monster in the head as it climbed. It fell onto another zombie's axe, the slimy blade going straight through it's back and out it's chest.

The group continued up the stairs. There was a demonic hoot from above them. They looked up, and saw that a zombie owl was flying straight towards them. Edd fired a burst, splattering the owl's head. Two more zombies with masks and claws appeared on the awnings above. Eddy took out one with a blast from his shotgun, blowing it in half. The other was shot in midair by Jacob, taking multiple bullets in it's face until it's mask fell off. They reloaded and continued.

After turning a corner, two zombies were trying to push open a door. Upon hearing their footsteps, they turned and shuffled toward the humans. Jacob swung his free fist at the zombie, smashing it's head against the brick wall and covering it with blood and brains. He did a spin kick and knocked off the other zombie's head.

As they ran across the small walk, a box fell from above, breaking on the ground. A zombie stood, ready to throw another one. Ed shot off it's arms, causing the large crate to fall on it's head, smashing it.

They ran through a small side path onto another street. On the left was a bridge, leading to a tall tower. They continued forward. There was a dead body lying on the ground, it's head half-off. There was a small golden key right next to it. Jacob picked up the key and inserted into a gate in front of them. Apparently, the man had been mauled while trying to open the gate.

They continued through and walked left, onto a small plaza. A door broke open on the right, and a little boy ran out, chased by a very fat zombie wearing an executioner's hood on it's head. It had it's shoulder pointed towards the boy, and a single ram could kill him. All three kids fired on the zombie, and it's top half slid off. The crying boy turned to his saviors. "My father is still in there!" he said, pointing to the door he exited from.

Inside was a small bar. There was a door behind the bar, with a padlock on it. The door was shaking violently, and they could hear a deep voice calling for help. Jacob shot the padlock, and the door flew open. A fat, balding man in his late 40s ran out, followed by a zombie. Ed fired a burst into it's eye, dropping it. Jacob realized he was out of ammo, but he saw a vintage lever-action rifle on the wall, with a box of shells on a shelf under it(A/N: Think Shaun of the Dead). Jacob grabbed the rifle and box, loaded the rifle, and cocked it.

Inside the room where the man was, there was a table with several chairs by it, and a television hanging from the wall. On the TV, there was a news report going on.

This is Eye in the Sky news helicopter. Someone, or something has taken over the city.

The picture showed the Sunset Bridge, and there was a large creature on it. It was thin and tall, though slightly shorter than Judgement. It was holding a large trident.

They looked under the carpet, and saw something moving under it, towards them. Jacob fired his rifle at it, and the lump under the carpet was still. Blood seeped through the carpet.

"Worms," Jacob muttered. They fired at the other three worms, destroying them. Suddenly the small window at the top of the wall broke open, and three figures fell inside. They were the top halfs of zombies, using their arms to shuffle towards the group. One of them lept up and went to bite Jacob's chest. He grabbed it's face and threw it into the TV. It went through the screen, and the TV sparked and fizzed. The zombie fell out with a thump and lay still. The others were all shot by the Eds.

After going through the door, they were on a small set of steps going downward to a set of small bridges over a small river. A zombie appeared, with chainsaws in place of hands. It blocked the rifle shots, but Jacob rolled under it's blades and kicked it in the chest. It stumbled back against a wall. Jacob walked over and grabbed one of it's arms. He shoved the chainsaw into the zombie's head, and it jammed after going in just above the nose.

Another zombie dropped from the roofs. It was short, but unarmored. It wore red pants, and had a series of cloth strips wrapped around it's chest. It had a bandanna over one eye, and it held two knives. It threw one, but Jacob caught it and threw it back. The knife sunk deep into it's cheek, and it fell backwards.

By the small river, there was a young man being chased by a chainsaw zombie. Jacob cocked the rifle and shot the zombie in the head. It stumbled a bit, then fell into the river, where it dissapeared under the surface. Seconds later it resufaced, as a few bloody chinks of meat. A door burst open by the man and another chainsaw zombie walked out. Edd fired full auto into the zombie's stomach, and it's intestines fell out.

Two swamp-thing zombie's popped out of the water and headed towards the group. Jacob shot one, sending it back into the water. The other grabbed Edd's shoulders and went to bite him, but Eddy shot the zombie in the neck. It's head rolled off with a plop.

They ran across a small walk on the surface of the water until they came to some steps that led up to Sunset Bridge, a long bridge that crossed a river. Metal drums started bouncing down towards the group. They dodged them and continued up. They were met by two fat zombies charging at them. They yawned and sidestepped. The zombies, unable to stop, went flying down the steps. Due to their bulk, they were stuck there and couldn't get up.

Next to the bridge were a lot of dead bodies, and several zombies feasting on them. They turned towards the group and went for their next meal. Edd shot one in the abdomen, and Eddy blasted one in the head, destroying it. Jacob kicked the zombie in the crotch, and seeing that it didn't work, he simply grabbed the zombie and threw him into the water.

On Sunset Bridge, there were a number of people crawling and running across the bridge, followed by an army of zombies. All of a sudden, the bridge exploded upward. The people and zombies disappeared in a flurry of water and stone. Out of the hole in the bridge, a monster jumped onto the stone.

It was the same one they had seen on TV, but now they had a closer look. It was covered in some kind of hard green scales. It's chest was made of bone, like a ribcage. Every so often, in the most shocking thing the boys had ever seen, the chest would open up to reveal a beating, red heart, then close again. Jacob didn't need to consult the files for this one. It was very obvious.

"Shoot the heart!" he told his colleagues.

The zombie drunkenly weaved towards the boys, swinging it's trident over it's head. When chest opened up, Jacob fired his rifle. The .50 caliber vintage Maynard rifle bucked, and a shell flew into the heart. Blood splattered, and the chest quickly closed as the monster stumbled back. It tried to do the same thing, but just got shot again. It quickly lept backwards into the water, and the boys ran to the edge of the hole.

The monster was floating in the river. It raised it's trident and a number of zombie fish jumped out. Jacob stepped back and the fish landed on the bridge, flopping until it died. The other fish were shot in midair, being blown in half. A lucky shot from Eddy hit the monster in the heart, and it swam to the sides.

Jacob looked around, when he heard a splash. "Left!".

The monster lept from the left side of the water, it's trident poised for a strike. Jacob shot it's heart, and it backflipped through the air, landing on it's chest. It quickly got up and raised it's trident for an overhead strike. Jacob sidestepped and the trident slammed into the ground. He lept onto the trident and ran up to it's arm. He hit it in the face twice with his rifle, and kicked it in the face before reaching down and prying off it's chest panels. He put the barrel of his rifle right in front of the beating heart. He raised his other hand and waved. "Bye bye!".

BLAM!

The .50 caliber shell went straight through the heart, causing it to explode. Jacob jumped off it's arm and stood, smirking.

The monster fell back into the water. After a few seconds, it's body floated up again, still.

"Now, how do we get across the bridg?" Edd asked. Jacob looked down and saw a speedboat floating next to the destroyed bridge. "Come on," he said, and they jumped down to the boat.
