Chapter 1 Frankie

Frankie Nunzio stood outside the door of Mac Taylor's office. She didn't know why she was nervous. She was a CSI, she had seen some of the most grusome crime scenes in the world and yet knocking on a door was making her hands shake. "Get a grip Frankie," she told herself. Finally summoning all the courage she had she knocked on the door. "Come in," the voice inside called. Frankie pushed the door open. Mac Taylor sat behind his desk looking over a file. She stood quietly waiting for acknowlegdment. After a few moments he put down the file and looked at her.
"Nunzio"
"Yes sir." Mac looked at the young woman who stood in his office. She'd only tranferred to his unit a week ago from Chicago and it was the first time he'd met her. She was about 5'7, had long brown hair, and dark brown eyes. She was slender yet had a sturdy look to her. She stood straight with her feet slightly apart her arms down at her sides. She wore a green turtleneck, black jeans, and black boots. "Have a seat," he said. She pulled out the chair and sat down. Mac reached into his drawer and pulled out her file.
"Francesca Nunzio, born January 4th, 1977, Chicago Illinois. Father Frank steel worker, Mother Angelina, teaches fourth grade social studies. Everdale Elementary, Jefferson High School, army ROTC Chicago University, majored in Criminology and Forensic Psychology, Army two years, Chicago Crime Lab four years. Married 1998, divorced 2003." She nodded.
"There I am, my entire life in one file." Mac closed the folder and placed his hands on the desk.
"So tell me what's not in the file." She looked him dead in the eye and raised one eyebrow.
"It says you requested transfer due to problems with coworkers. Mind expanding that explanation a little." She leaned back in her chair, crossing one leg over the other.
"There was only one coworker I had a problem with and I had only one problem with him"
"And what problem was that"
"I was married to him for five years"
"I can see how working with your ex-husband would be a problem." Mac said.
"If you don't mind my asking what was the reason the for divorce?" She looked away and pushed her hair behind her ear.
"His extracurricular lovelife." "Well," he said clearing his throat. "Your records are spectacular, I'm sure you'll do just fine here. I'm sure you won't find New York much different from Chicago as far as crime goes." "Thank you, sir"
"You can call me Mac. We're fairly informal around here. You don't mind being called Francesca do you"
"Frankie," she said. "Francesca makes me sound like a snob." Mac smiled. He liked her. She had spunk. His phone rang at that moment.
"Taylor," he said.
"It's me," Flack's voice said on the other end, "I got a DB. 211 St. Johns Blvd"
"I'll be right there," Mac said. He thought quickly for the moment. Stella and Danny were working on a rape case. Aiden was out on sick leave, after recieving a bullet to the shoulder three weeks ago. He glanced across the desk at the young woman.
"Feel like diving into the deep end of the pool?" She smiled.
"Wouldn't have it any other way"
"Get your gear," he said.
