Author of 53 Stories |
Gakuen Heaven is produced by Spray and the manga is later illustrated by Yuu Higuri. This is only a fanfic.
Ok, so I'm totally obsessed over a fandom that doesn't even exist. But heck! Writing GH fics make me feel strangely happy and well, fulfilled. And thanks, simplykim, for being the first reader ever (I don't know how you came across my fic in the first place, hehe). So anyhow, this fic takes place before the arrival of Keita Ito and it features my next fave pairing.
Edit (as of July 2006): Now that the manga has been turned to anime, I now know that Endo and the chairman is the same person. So this fic is a tad off the original storyline. Still, you can read it if you don't mind the discrepancy. Thank you.
: The New Game :
It was his first day at Bell Liberty Academy. He was slightly nervous, knowing that he surrounded by people each with his own talent and ability. He supposed the academy acknowledged his; otherwise he would not have received the Platina letter inviting him to join what was perhaps Japan's most exclusive private school. Still, he could not help but feel inferior. He liked to think himself as just a regular boy, despite the fact he was anything but; the men in his family had been attending this private school for generations.
The freshmen were to gather in the hall, a grand space with high ceilings illuminated by elegant lightings. Expensive looking art paintings dominated left and right, and on the walls by the outward semicircle stage were portraits of the country's emperor and his wife, the Prime Minister and his wife and several men who were most likely to be the academy's Board members. His steps rang out sonorous against the polished wood floor as he searched around for his class on the display stands lined up at the front, but everyone seemed to be busy talking to take notice.
He was instantly conscious. Still he maintained his composure, assiduously looking for his class. He saw it then, at the furthest end, the display stand that had his class emblazoned upon it, an empty table right beside it. As he neared it, he was surprised to find that there was no one waiting in line.
"Finally someone who turns up early."
He turned to find a tall blonde approaching him, a lazy smile on his handsome face. The blonde stopped before him, eyes assessing him from head to toe and a slight blush crept up his face then. "Who are you?" he asked, a bit too harshly.
The blonde, whose shoulder length hair was swept in a loose ponytail, winked. "You're cute." And without warning, he leaned in, inching his face closer as if to kiss.
He reacted quickly, hands upon the other's broad chest and pushed. The blonde stumbled backwards slightly, vivid green eyes widened in surprise, before lips curled into a teasing smile. "What do you think you're doing?" he hissed, indignant, looking around to see if anyone noticed their little spectacle. Thankfully, they were all engrossed in whatever it was they were doing.
The blonde laughed. "Don't be so serious. I was just going to give you a welcome kiss. But perhaps I should have introduced myself earlier. I'm your class's student mentor. Yukihiko Naruse."
He bit his lower lip, hesitating for a few seconds before giving his own name. "Kazuki Endo."
The blonde raised a knowing brow. "Ah, Kazuki, I should have known. The Kazuki family has always been aesthetically blessed." His smile grew broader then. "So, Endo, now that the introduction's done with, can I give you a welcome kiss now?"
The casual use of his first name somewhat annoyed him, though he knew the senior had every right to. But before Endo could answer, he felt something soft and smooth against his lips, and a lingering scent of strawberries and cream teased his senses. There was a wet flick and Endo stifled a yelp, hands already on the other's chest once more.
His senior pulled back just in time. There was that infuriating grin and Endo felt his cheeks flaming. The nerve of this blonde! Just because he was a senior, did it give him a right to do such a scandalous thing? It was at the tip of his tongue to hurl curses but he was not going to degrade himself as such. He had to appear unaffected, despite the fact that his cheeks felt as if they were going to melt off his face anytime soon from the heat.
"You taste sweet, Endo. I like you."
His heart did a little somersault but he restrained it quickly with a continuous chant of 'self-control, self-control'. He cleared his throat then and adopted a calm demeanor. "Yukihiko-senpai, I – "
The blonde gasped dramatically, his face seemingly aghast. "Don't call me that, Endo. Just call me Naruse; most of us here go by our first names."
Something new learnt. Endo nodded in understanding and tried again. "Naruse-san, I – "
"Na…ru…se…"
Endo ignored him. "Naruse-san, where are the others?"
Naruse heaved a sigh, flipping back his ponytail as he did so. "I don't know. Which reminds me, I need to record down your attendance now. Come, follow me."
They walked towards the table by the display stand, and Naruse took his seat, flipping open a thin long book which was no doubt a class register. One finger trailed down the list of names before it stopped at a particular one.
"Kazuki Endo." A tick beside the name. "So tell me Endo, which after-school activity are you planning to join?"
Endo shrugged easily. "I have no idea really. I used to be on the kendo team and I was decent enough in track-and-field events. I guess I'll just have a look first at the after-school activities exhibition."
"Hmm... be sure to drop by the tennis booth then."
"Why?"
"I'm going to be there, silly. I'm the Captain of the tennis club."
Endo looked amused, pretending to squint analytically at the older teen. "You, Naruse-san?" he asked in mock surprise.
Naruse was grinning. "Ah, so you have a sense of humor too. Kawaii!" Then without warning, he was on his feet once more and was lunging towards Endo with arms wide open. And not expecting the senior's exuberance, Endo found himself tight in a warm embrace, the same strawberry-and-cream scent from before engulfing him.
"Naruse-san!" he exclaimed, trying to push the senior and looking around frantically. This time, they did attract the attention of others, who were looking rather surprised and some were chuckling nervously.
"Naruse!"
Still in the blonde's embrace, Endo twisted to look, and a tall bespectacled teen with light blue hair came to view. He heard Naruse sighed. "What do you want, fuku-kachou?"
Fuku-kachou? The bespectacled teen pushed his glasses up his nose slightly, looking rather disdainful. He was no doubt very good-looking, but there was this domineering aura shrouding him and his eyes, icy blue in color, seemed cold. He spoke then, his voice rich and deep. "It's a bit too early to start your game, don't you think?"
"He's jealous," Naruse whispered, but loud enough to be heard by the fuku-kachou. Endo glanced back to the bespectacled senior, who looked anything but affected.
"Stop the foolishness and get back to your post. And as for you," blue eyes fixed upon him, "You'd be better of staying out of this pervert's way."
Endo was let go immediately, and he watched as Naruse hurried up to size up the fuku-kachou, towering over slightly. "I'm not a pervert," he declared. "I'm a romantic soul. Or have you forgotten about it already, Nakajima?" There seemed to be a hidden meaning behind that, but Endo would rather not know what it was.
The senior named Nakajima sneered. "I rather not, Naruse. Now, please get back to your post. I see the other students have already arrived." Without another word, he turned to leave, but not before casting Endo a knowing look.
Strangely enough, Naruse was smiling. He turned back to Endo, winking flirtatiously. "Have to do as the fuku-kachou says. I hate to leave you all by yourself but trust me, I will look you up later. Wait for me."
Endo wanted to decline the 'invitation', but Naruse was quicker, planting a chaste kiss on his cheek before striding back to behind the desk. Endo felt his cheeks growing warm again, and fixed a stare at the blonde. Unfortunately, Naruse was already attending to some students – Endo's classmates – with the same playful affection as he was subjected to earlier, albeit minus the kisses. "Idiot," Endo muttered under his breath then and chose a secluded spot to wait for the welcoming ceremony to commence.

Naruse was a tennis prodigy. Otherwise, he would not have been the Captain of the tennis club. He loved the sport, but he also loved the attention that came with it. He fed off the admiration of those who watched him play; it made him delirious with energy. But perhaps, he was just an attention-seeker.
And Naruse was not used to being ignored.
He delivered a sharp shot that was too quick for his opponent. The yellow tennis ball rolled off to the far corner of the court, and he pulled out another from his pocket. He bounced the ball several times, but his eyes were roaming around the vicinity. Alas, there was no one resembling Kazuki Endo.
"Naruse-san, what are you looking at?" his opponent hollered.
Reluctantly Naruse turned to the lanky redhead. With a heavy sigh, he served, the shot lacking in its usual speed and was easily returned. But still, even at a 50 percenteffort, he managed to win the set. "Akira, are you really this bad?" he could not help but be spiteful.
His junior frowned. "But that is because Naruse-san isn't playing your best too. It won't be a real win if I win anyway. And you would say I was just lucky."
Naruse pouted, knowing it was the truth. He waved off his racket, signaling his disinterest to continue, and walked off to the bleachers. He slumped down heavily, and took a long swig from his bottle.
"Someone seems distracted today."
Nakajima. Turning around, Naruse glowered at the vice-president of the student council. "Not used to being ignored, aren't you? Losing your touch perhaps?" Hideasa Nakajima sneered. Really, he must be psychic or something, for he seemed to know almost everything.
"I'd appreciate it if you don't rub in my face, Nakajima."
Nakajima shrugged elegantly. "I suppose, but you're just too pitiful for me to ignore." And with a wave, he walked off.
The nerve of that Nakajima! Naruse stuck out his tongue after the vice-president's retreating back and frowned deeply. No, it was all that Endo's fault.
"Kazuki, oi, Kazuki!"
Naruse immediately snapped to attention. His redhead junior was calling out that name repeatedly. He looked around, and spotted Endo walking towards Akira. He got up to his feet quickly, and it made him seethed inwardly when the brunette looked away.
But Naruse was undeterred. He approached Akira, who was talking animatedly. Endo still refused to meet his eyes. The redhead stopped then when he realized Naruse was behind him.
"Naruse-san. What's wrong?"
"I have something important to discuss with Endo. I'm sorry but I have to borrow him for a while." And without waiting for an answer, Naruse grabbed Endo by the arm and began dragging the junior off the tennis courts.
"Naruse-san! Let me go!"
Endo tried to writhe out of his grip, and Naruse grinned. "I'm not just a pretty face, you know."
"I didn't even say you are one!"
"I know, which is why I need to talk to you."
Endo stopped struggling, an incredulous look on his face. "Is that the something important you were saying about? About me not acknowledging you as a pretty face?"
Naruse's grin widened. "Pretty much." They were now at a secluded area of the school, and though they were being stared at along the way, Naruse knew they were not being followed. A few more turns here and there and they finally arrived at a deserted alley between two blocks. Naruse pushed Endo against a wall, pinning the latter's hands above the head.
"Naruse-san!" Endo hissed angrily. "What are you doing?"
Naruse smiled. "Unless you answer my questions, you have my promise that I'll be a perfect gentleman."
Endo struggled, and Naruse pressed his body closer, loving the proximity. He gazed into his junior's eyes, a beautiful mix of grey and blue. "First question," he whispered, blowing slightly at Endo's ear, "Why do you avoid me?"
Endo was quick to answer. "Because you're a pervert."
"I'm a flirt," Naruse corrected. He blew at the other ear then. "Second question, do you not find me attractive?"
"No."
Naruse sighed as he pressed even closer, and was filled with glee at the blush that colored Endo's face. Really, his junior was just too cute for words. "Third and last question, do you like me?"
Endo's eyes widened and Naruse already knew the answer to his question; not that he was being pompous or anything. Endo looked away, the blush deepening, as his lips moved to mutter something inaudible.
"What is it? I can't hear your answer."
Grey-blue eyes stared at him sharply. "No, I do not like you! You're an ugly pervert and I don't like you. Now, will you please let me go?"
Naruse chuckled. "You are so mean." His eyes fell to Endo's lips, feeling his patience grated thin. He still remembered how sweet they tasted. Perhaps he was a pervert after all, for right now he wanted nothing more than to hear the brunette before him moan and gasp out in ecstasy.
He leaned forward, slowly closing the distance, eyes never leaving the other's face. Endo looked as if he wanted to protest, but as Naruse drew in closer, his lids unwittingly eased down, lips parted slightly in anticipation. Naruse had Endo where he wanted him, and much as he was tempted to seal their fate, he could not for the moment. So he had to content with a light brush against Endo's lips, and he almost gave in to a full kiss when Endo inconspicuously swallowed and upturned his face slightly.
A final tease of the lips and he impulsively pulled back while letting go of Endo's hands. The brunette's eyes snapped open immediately, bewilderment coloring them a darker hue. Naruse managed a cocky grin, though his heart was thumping rather wildly at the disappointment Endo had not bothered to hide.
"I have a tournament coming up in a few weeks' time. Will you be there?"
Endo looked away, silent for a few seconds. When he finally looked up, he had a stubborn façade in place. "I don't like tennis," he said firmly before storming off. Naruse gazed after the brunette with a knowing smile. Besides the apparent privacy, there was another reason why Naruse chose the place and it was because freshmen like Endo would be lost without a guide as they had yet to explore the school's huge ground. So it hardly surprised him when Endo stopped and almost reluctantly turned around.
Whistling a happy tune, Naruse strolled leisurely towards the waiting brunette, who seemed to be sulking. Unable to resist it, he draped a casual arm across Endo's shoulder and planted a quick kiss on the cheek. Endo visibly stiffened and stared daggers.
"Shall we walk back together?"
Endo had not much of a choice, obviously. Naruse grinned, glad that the game was finally starting to turn to his favor. But little did he know, he was going to be given the ace that was going to secure his victory.

Notes: The ace here refers to Keita Ito. Haha, read the manga and see for yourself the interaction between Naruse and Endo which spawned my love for this pairing, and of course, the idea for this fic.
