When she was a little girl, Kate used to wake up early on Christmas day and sneak down to the living room. She'd hide the presents, then act innocent when her parents woke up.

That was a lifetime ago. She's not that innocent little girl anymore, and she's long since stopped believing in fairytales.

This Christmas she wakes up early and sneaks into Jack's cave. She places the mango next to his head and tiptoes out. It's not much in the way of a present, but she wants him to know she cares.

Merry Christmas, Jack, she thinks, and smiles.
