Even the Stars get lonely sometimes

Synopsis: Sequel to “Counting the Stars”, Bierrez meets someone special in the Draqueen Market on Valentine’s Day. “ Even the stars get lonely sometimes, Bierrez.” BxR

Warning(s): Same from the first story... I guess. Basically, the events are the same from the manga, with Gil sort of taking Rath’s place. Cesia is now with the Dragon Tribe, but it really hasn’t escalated from there, since Gil hasn’t been screwed with by Kharl... was it just me, or did that sentence sound freaky to you as well? XD

Disclaimer: No. I’m done with this. I even forget to put this in most of my stories, so who cares?

“ Blah.” is talking.

S/N:... is Suicide Notes. XD

If you haven’t read “Counting the Stars”, go read it! This won’t make sense if you don’t! And drop a review, it’s not too hard!

The song is the English Translation of X-Japan’s “Forever Love”... Good God, how I love that song.

I can't walk on my own any more

The winds of time are too strong

Ah, I should be used to

Getting hurt, but now...

Ah, just like this,

Hold my still damp heart

If unchanging love can exist

In these constantly changing times,

Even the stars get lonely sometimes...

Don’t you think so, Bierrez?

Eternity is a long time, you know.

He sighed. It had been so many years since he had last seen Rath.

And the years went by so slowly. They were so lonely, so dead. Even though Draqueen was at the very heart of Dragoon, he didn’t have friends so much as he had comrades. Sure, Thatz, Gil, and Rune probably considered him a friend, but he mostly thought of them as acquaintances more than anything else.

I don’t belong here.

“ This is another time I’ve found you completely spaced out.” Thatz, bless his soul, always showed up at the times when Bierrez didn’t really want company. Though, he really didn’t have the heart to yell at the former human.

Yeah, Rath took it and didn’t give it back...

He only looked away, out the large window that gave him a near perfect view of the town.

“ Wanna talk about it?” Thatz questioned, seating himself down by Bierrez. Bierrez shook his head in defeat; it was best to give up while he was ahead. Besides, he didn’t feel like arguing.

“ Why not?” Thatz was triumphant in that he had finally gotten to Bierrez... Somewhat, at least. Bierrez never spoke about his past, and all they knew was that he used to be a demon.

Actually, now that he thought about it, that was a lot for Bierrez to tell them in the first place.

Thatz noticed that Bierrez had once again spaced, but ignored him for a second.

“ So, does she have a name?” Bierrez was instantly brought out of his reverie and stared at Thatz.

“ What the hell makes you think that?” He glared at Thatz distastefully.

Thatz only him a false innocent smile. “ Well, it is Valentine’s Day... I was guessing that your duties as Red Dragon Officer were stopping you from going to the market to get a gift for your sweetheart.” Thatz finished cooly. Bierrez wanted to hit him with something. Preferably something large and heavy.

At Bierrez’s annoyed look, Thatz figured he hit the mark. Well, he did. Sort of.

“ Hey, tell you what! I, being the great friend that I am, will sneak you out to the Market. Even Alfeegi has to agree that Valentine’s Day is a day not to be working.” He stated cheerfully.

Bierrez didn’t bother to listen after that.

Will you hold my heart,

And catch my tears?

All my heart feels like it will break

Forever Love, Forever Dream

Oh, tell me why

Only flowing emotions

Intensely and painfully fill these times

All I see is blue in my heart

Will you stay with me

As long as the wind blows?

All my tears overflow again

He didn’t know why he bothered to listen.

Someway, somehow, Thatz had gotten him out of the castle and into the market. Now, that would be all fine and dandy, if not for one thing.

Cesia.

He didn’t hate the girl, no, never. He actually thought of her as a little sister. But still.

Being used as a carrier for Valentine’s Day cards, chocolates, flowers, and whatnot was not what he had in mind.

So, in a way, Thatz’s plan had worked. He was out of the castle. And for what? To be Cesia’s pack mule? He sighed, dumping the bags onto a nearby bench, and ignoring Cesia’s angered cry. He had better things to do.

Like reminisce over what was -and could- never be his.

And he would have, if not for something that had caught his eye. He rose from his seat without really thinking, and walked over to the small stand that no one else seemed to have notice. It was almost eerie, in that everyone was passing by the small stall without even giving it a glance.

What had caught his attention was placed between a metal head band and a small doll that reminded him of Rath...

It was small, only the size of a small marble, but it shined brightly. A spherically cut crimson crystal placed in a silver chain necklace. It was delicate, and thin, but absolutely beautiful.

Like Rath.

Damnit, why did everything remind him of Rath?

“ How much?” He asked without thinking, still staring intently at the small jeweled necklace.

“ For you? Nothing.”

He blinked, looking up at the stall keeper. She was a tall, heavily endowed woman with dark crimson hair. Her hair covered one of her eyes, and Bierrez noted that the other eye was dark crimson as well. She smiled at him sweetly.

“ What? Why?” He was confused.

The woman gently picked up the necklace and placed it in a heart shaped box. “ This necklace has two names; The Forlorn Hope...” He frowned. ‘Forlorn Hope’? What kind of name was that?

“ ... And Forever Love.” He interest was only piqued. He raised an eyebrow at the fact that she was giving him a very expensive necklace for free.

There had to be something wrong with it.

“ It’s cursed, isn’t it.” It was a question from his side, and he gave her a flat stare. The stand keeper only laughed again.

“ No. But it was made with magic. Believe me when I say that nothing will befall the person who this is granted to.” She sounded so sincere that Bierrez was hard pressed not to believe her.

“ Then why are you just giving it to me?”

“ My reasons are my own, and I see you will have a reason to rather soon.” No sooner had she said that than when she put it in his hand and took his other hand and placed it over the box.

“ Though the bonds may seem thin and delicate, they are stronger than anything and won’t be broken, no matter what you think; just as love is.” She smiled at him, and he was, for whatever reason he couldn’t imagine, led to trust her.

“ Think of it as a good luck charm.”

Her hands left the small, heart shaped box in his own, and he looked down at it, wondering.

...I see you will have a reason to rather soon.”

“ Bierre! What are you doing!” Cesia’s constant shouting, which he hadn’t noticed for a while, brought him back. He looked over shoulder, but quickly put the box in hi pocket. For some reason, he didn’t want Cesia to see it.

“ What? I was just...” He turned back to the stall, and, to his great surprise, it was gone.

As though it were just an illusion.

“ You were just ‘what’?”

“ Nothing, nothing... Come on, let’s go.” And they left for the castle to ‘drop off’ everything. Cesia still wanted to explore town, and Bierrez didn’t want to leave her alone. No matter how annoying or bratty she might act.

Still, there was something bothering him.

And yet he never noticed the person watching him from afar.

Forever Love, Forever Dream

Stay by me, just like this

Holding my heart that shakes in the dawn

Oh stay with me

Ah, I wouldn't mind if everything were to end

In this night without end

Ah, I would lose nothing

All I have is you

Forever Love, Forever Dream

Stay by me, just like this

Holding my heart that shakes in the dawn

“ So, is that everything? Or do I get to play pack mule again?” He asked, voice dripping with sarcasm. Cesia either didn’t notice, or didn’t care, probably the latter, and merely stuck her tongue out at him.

“ Oh yeah, real mature, Cesia.” He rose from his seat on the bench, and stretched out his arms. Damn, some of the thorns on those roses hadn’t been cut off, and they hurt.

He sighed, and started walking forward, but didn’t noticed anything in front of him, because his eyes were closed.

Next thing he knew, he felt something bump into his chest. His eyes snapped open to look at the person lying on the ground, having fallen on their bottom. Cesia immediately rushed forward, pushing Bierrez out of the way, and held her hand out to the fallen stranger.

Their face, and body as well, was completely concealed by a dark cloak. It was old, and the only thing that Bierrez could see was a small part of their lower face. Just from that, they seemed a little young, and rather... pale. Some wisps of dark hair peeked our from beneath, but Bierrez knew it wasn’t worth it to jump to conclusions.

It was then that he noticed that the cloaked person had a small bouquet of rose in their hands. Some petals had fallen off, but other wise, the bouquet was fine. They took Cesia’s hand, but he noticed that they had hesitated for a short while. She helped them up, and they gave her a small nod to show that they appreciated her kindness. Now that the person was standing up, Bierrez realized he was at least a head taller than they were.

Then, they started walking past him. The strange thing was...

The moment they were directly next to him, and he was still facing Cesia, who was in front of him, they stopped and pushed the roses into his chest, and he heard something whispered into his ear. In a soft, familiar voice.

“ Even the stars get lonely sometimes, don’t you think...? Happy Valentine’s Day, Bierrez.” They giggled, and they were off.

Cesia was looking at him, confused, and he just stood there, numbly looking at the roses that had been handed to him.

...I see you will have a reason to rather soon.”

Even the stars get lonely sometimes, don’t you think...?”

It took him a total of ten second to realize who it had been, and, after shaving the rose into Cesia’s chest, he quickly turned around and bolted after them. He ignored Cesia’s cry after him, and kept running after the cloaked person, dodging shoppers and shop keepers alike.

They had a head start, but he quickly caught up with them, and he saw them enter a dark and, thankfully, deserted alleyway. He had caught them.

Him.

“ Rath.”

His voice sounded desperate, and how could he not be? The person who he had thought had betrayed him, was right here, standing directly in front of him.

No, he thought, Rath had never betrayed him... it was his own stupidity.

“ Rath.” His voice was softer now, and walked towards the cloaked person. They made no move, and he reached to remove the hood...

... Revealing a head of thick dark hair and a long braid, accompanied by a pair of large crimson eyes framing a childlike, innocent face. He wasn’t smiling, but he wasn’t frowning either. He just looked up at him passively, yet there was something glimmering in his eyes.

“ Bierrez...” He started softly, but was cut off when Bierrez pushed him up against the wall and placed his lips upon Rath’s own. He was surprised, but melted into it... something he had wanted for so long... And then it was over.

Too soon.

“ That...” Bierrez started, “ Was for cutting me up with ice a second time.” Rath blinked cutely.

“ What about the first time?” He joked, mentally wincing at the memory of doing such a thing.

“ I deserved that.” And Bierrez smiled at him, holding him up, just like he used to.

Rath sighed, burying his face within Bierrez’s chest.

“ I’m sorry...” He started.

“ For what?” Bierrez wasn’t looking at him, but his focus was solely on Rath.

“ For being... weak... If I hadn’t been so powerless, I could have come with you... I wanted to, so much... but I couldn’t.” And Bierrez only held him tighter, more protective than before.

He laughed a little, a sad laugh, really. “ If you were weak, how do you think you inflicted so much damage on me?” Rath said nothing.

“ So, you just escaped?” He nodded for a moment.

“ Not quite, actually. I only learned you were here in Draqueen specifically a short while ago. I escaped a year ago.” It was Bierrez’s turn to blink.

“ What? I suppose I can understand that, but where were you?” Rath looked down, wrapping his thin arms around him. His tone grew distant, almost.

“ I was trapped in Arinas.”

“ What?”

“ I don’t want to talk about it... please.” Bierrez nodded. They merely stood there, or rather, Bierrez stood, and held Rath in his arms. He was very capable of doing it, Rath being rather light, even now.

Then, he remembered something. Putting the dark haired boy down for a moment, he reached into his pocket, fishing around for something.

He then pulled out the small, heart shaped box. Rath blinked. Bierrez smiled at him, opeing the box, and pulling out the silver necklace.

Rath’s eyes grew large. “ Bierrez...” He trailed off, when Bierrez placed it around his neck. Bierrez put a finger his lips.

“ Hmm... I think it looks rather nice, don’t you think?” And without waiting for an answer, he drew Rath into his arms again, holding on to the younger demon tightly, as though he might disappear at any moment. Rath nestled into the crook of Bierrez’s neck, but he noted something.

“ You feel different...”

“ So do you.” Bierrez remarked. Rath continued.

“ You’re a part of the Dragon Tribe now, aren’t you?” Bierrez nodded, dully noting that fast approaching darkness. One question had been bothering him for a while, though he hadn’t known how to go about it.

“ They hid your other side away, didn’t they?” Rath stiffened, but he went on.

You are the one who truly belongs in the Dragon Clan.” Rath sighed, as though trying to draw even closer to the taller demon.

“ No, I don’t belong anywhere, Bierrez.” It was silent after that.

“ Then come with me, be can belong together then.” Rath giggled, which was sweet music to Bierrez’s ears, after not hearing for so long. Bierrez didn’t mind the extra weight, and started the short journey back to the Dragon Castle.

“ Can I have another kiss then?”

“ God, you’re such a child sometimes.”

“ But that’s why you love me, right?”

“ Yes, Rath, that’s why I love you.”

And, in the back of his mind, Bierrez was aware that he left Cesia, but at the moment, he figured her yelling at him when she got back would be worth the trouble.

Thatz, Gil, and Rune,(who really didn’t want to disrupt anything in the first place) all poked their heads through the door to Bierrez’s room. They hadn’t seen the officer return to castle the last night, but Thatz had kept on hinting at something... Rune smacked over head with a rock.

“ Should we really be doing this?” Rune questioned, unsure. Gil and Thatz, however, both ignored him, instead staring at the bed.

“ Whoa... I didn’t know he had it in him.” Gil smirked.

“ Hah! I knew it!” Was Thatz’s triumphant whisper.

On the bed, were two figures, one of which was Bierrez, the other of which was Rath, but the three didn’t know that. Rath was practically draped around Bierrez, snuggling into the former full demon’s chest. Bierrez slept soundly. Thankfully, both were fully clothed. Somewhat.

“ Wait till Cesia hears about this...” Thatz snickered to himself, just barely dodging a sock to the face from Rune.
