Sora sighed softly as he looked up at the light blue sky above through the car's window. His mom glanced over at him, her sapphire eyes carrying a look of concern. She then turned back and continued driving home. Sora leaned over to the left a little to look at his mom's watch. 'Only 12:30... I can't believe I'm missing school just because of a little back pain... And what's worse is today's my 14th birthday too!' He thought as he turned back to look out the window once more. After a few minutes though, his mom had parked in the driveway. Getting out of the car, Sora grabbed his bookbag and pulled it to the door as his mom followed close behind. His mom opened the door for him and held it open. As he walked in he slipped off his sneakers and set them near the door then started up the stairs when he felt his mom's hand on his shoulder. Sora turned around to see her smiling, listening carefully as she said, "Sora, once you get up there, change into some clean pajamas then go straight to bed, you're going to need to get some rest, okay?" He nodded a little, smiling weakly, then headed up the stairs once more. As Sora went to his room, his mom frowned slightly. 'I wonder if this pain he's getting has to do with... Hm...' She thought.
Once he was in his room, Sora went to his dresser and pulled out a drawer revealing pajamas, socks, underwear, all that stuff. He took out some sky blue pajamas and set them on his bed before picking them up again to put on after taking off his school uniform. Sighing quietly, he walked over to his laundry basket and threw his uniform in.
"Hey Sora! I'm gonna go to work now, okay? Are you going to be alright here by yourself?" His mom asked him from downstairs. Sora blinked then nodded. He then smacked his forehead lightly, forgetting she wouldn't be able to see him. He went to his bedroom's door and called out, "'Kay mom!" His mom smiled then walked out, closing the door behind her.
Sora walked over to his bed and crawled onto it sleepily. He put his head on a fluffy white pillow then blinked as a sudden weight was put onto it. Looking up to the left a little he saw his pet, Wiz. Wiz smiled at him and crawled onto his head a bit clumsily. Sora smiled and laughed a little at this. But that smile faded a moment later when he spotted a painting of a boy across the room, specifically his best friend and crush, Riku. He then looked at Wiz and back to the painting and smiled sadly. "I thought I covered that..." He murmured to himself. He then looked over at Wiz again. "Did you uncover it..?" He asked Wiz. But then he didn't care because a searing pain formed in his back, thus causing him to close his blue eyes tightly as he sat up straight a bit too quickly. Two small bumps, one by each of his shoulder blades, formed as he cried out. Then, smooth white feathers started to sprout from the bumps, gradually coming out further, ripping through his shirt. After a few minutes Sora opened his eyes, only a little bit of pain left in his back where the feathers had come from. Looking back, he saw two fluffy white wings. His jaw dropped slightly and he rubbed at his eyes. 'It's all a dream.. It's all a dream... It's all a dream!' He thought, his mind screaming now. Moving his hands from his eyes, he looked back and still saw them. 'This can't be true! This can't be happening!' He thought. He then reached back to feel his wings, to see if they were real. And as soon as he felt the feathers, tears started to form in his eyes. 'I can't believe it... How'd I get myself into this..?' He couldn't hold them in any longer and let the tears roll down his now pink cheeks. Out of all of the happenings, Sora didn't happen to hear someone knocking on the door.
Riku sighed then tried knocking once more. After getting no response, he tried the door, and to his luck, it was unlocked. He opened it a little, making sure not to make too much noise, and slid in, gently closing it behind him. Slipping off his sneakers, he set them near the door and walked in, taking in his surroundings. He walked over to the stairs and stepped up as quietly as he could, a floorboard would creak every now and then, but it wasn't too loud, was it?
Once up the stairs, Riku went to Sora's door and saw it was closed. 'I wonder if he's in there?' He thought. Just to make sure, he got a little closer and placed his ear to the door. From there he could hear soft sobs along with light whimpers, a few hiccups every once in a while too. 'Yes, Sora's in there. But is he crying?' With that, he knocked on the door a little then opened it with caution. Once the door was wide open, Riku's aqua eyes widened in surprise. "Sora..." He managed to say looking at his friend sympathetically. Sora's ears perked up as he heard this. He slowly turned over and looked up at Riku, tears still streaming down his face as he bit his lip to try and stop them. Riku walked over, a reassuring smile on his face. As he sat down on the bed next to Sora he said, "It's okay, cry if you need to... Everyone cries once in a while, Right?" With this said Sora nodded and smiled a little as he continued to cry, quiet whimpers escaping his pink lips once in a while. Riku looked at his friend and wrapped an arm around his shoulders to comfort him. Sora blinked and dried some of his tears away with his shirt's sleeve. Then he looked over. A small smile grazed his lips and he closed his eyes. He couldn't take it anymore. He wrapped his arms around Riku's waist loosely and hugged him. Riku watched as he did this and smiled a bit.
"Hey Ri-kun...?" Sora murmured into Riku's chest. Riku looked down at him and blinked. "Hm?" He replied. He felt Sora's lips form a small frown, making him frown a bit himself. "Are... You still my... Friend...?" He asked with a hint of hope and some sadness in his voice. Riku blinked at this and thought. "Of course. Why're asking me this? We'll always be best friends." He answered. "Okay... Good..." Sora replied, not answering his question. "But, why were you asking me that..?" Riku asked once more. Sora blinked a little then looked up at him with a sad smile. He looked down at the floor and began. "Well, I.. Was afraid that you wouldn't wanna be my friend anymore because of... Well, you know..." He trailed off, spreading out one of his fluffy white wings to show what he meant. Then he began again. "I... Well, I thought you would think I was... A freak..." Riku's eyes widened at this. "But... I'm glad to hear that you're still my friend..." Riku recovered from the shock and smiled, hugging Sora a bit closer now. "Sora, you'll always be my best friend. Always. I promise." Sora looked up, hope and joy could easily be seen in his eyes. "Really..?" He asked shyly. Riku nodded and Sora grinned. "Thanks Riku.." He murmured softly before leaning up a little bit and giving Riku a light kiss on the cheek as a thank you. But before Riku could react, they heard the door downstairs open.
