Peorth

Chapter Thirty-one: A sorting

Peorth stood behind all the first years waiting to be sorted, he wasn't sure where he was going to end up but probably Slytherin or Gryffindor but he couldn't be sure. He just hoped that they got to the food soon, it had been many hours since he had been able to eat breakfast. Even though he had already been at Hogwarts, Severus and the Headmaster had decided that it would be best for him to ride the train with his pack. So Severus had left him at on the Hogwarts Express at 10 o'clock that monring because he had meetings that he had to attend at Hogwarts and neither of them particulalry liked crowds.

His Summer had been marvelous, for the first time he had been on holiday not just once but many times. He had spent nearly a week with the twins and Percy at the Burrow, Ron was still recovering in St Mungos but he had met Charlie, Bill and Ginny. While they were all great people, except maybe Ginny she gave him a bad feeling sometimes, none of them were in his pack.

Then there had been four days where both him and Severus had spent time at the Malfoy Manor and three days that Draco had spent at Spinner's end. Spinner's End had been very dull and dismal when they had first arrived, he had been able to feel how embarrassed his human was about the state of their home. It had only taken a two days of hard work and a lot of magic before it had been a home, a home that Wren could come to.

He had also spent a long weekend at Hermione's home, meeting her parents and little brother. It had been strange being back in the muggle world but he had enjoyed it. Hermione had told him that while she wouldn't see any of the others of the pack until they went to Diagon Alley, she was writing to Percy, Neville and the twins. Neville had even managed to convince his Gran to invite Hermione and her parents to the Longbottom manor for dinner just before they had come back for school.

Neville's Gran, Peorth had found was a strange but not unkind lady, she had been nice to him and said she was glad that Neville had been taken under his wing. Apparently she had been scared that her little Neville wouldn't make any friends, she was glad that he had managed even if one of them was that Malfoy boy.

There had of course been the ten days that they had spent with the Pack in a forest in Devon, Peorth happily sleeping with the pack, normally Diona or Jamille and Sintar with their little cub Aarti. Aarti was less than a year old and unable to fly but full of energy and learning how to control his powers. Wren had even joined them one weekend and a blushing Severus had been congratulated on finding his mate.

Wren had spent a lot of time with them over the summer and he knew that she had spent even more time with Severus while he had been staying with friends. Draco had been fine with them sharing a bed, Hermione's little brother had joined him in bed after the first night, now he had pack potential and a lot of magical potential. Neville had been a little shy at first but willing to share with Peorth after he had been unable to sleep the first night and the twins had all but carried him to their room where the beds were pressed together and he could sleep safely between his two protectors.

The first years had finally finished being sorted and Peorth knew that everyone was looking at him. They all knew who he really was yet still none of them could tell anyone who he really was.

"You all briefly met him last year, I would like you to meet Peorth Snape, he will be joining the second years for classes. Mr Snape if you would like to sit down and we can sort you."

Peorth nodded his head and walked slowly to where Minerva stood with the hat, she gave him a warm smile and placed the hat on his head.

"Hello young man, you will have to lower some of those sheilds for me to get a proper reading."

"Sorry," Peorth projected as he lowered some of his sheilds, Severus had told him that the hat had spells on it meaning it could not speak of what it had seen in pupil's minds. All of his thoughts would be safe.

"Thank-you young one, so you are the one that the Headmaster has been talking so much about. A very interesting set of memories here and such interesting bonds. A very strong one to the Head of Slytherin and many of my favourite Gryffindors. But where to put you, your are incredibly loyal to your pack, cunning to keep your identity hidden and brave in the face of danger.

"Where do you think you belong young one? Hufflepuff, Gryffindor or Slytherin? I do not think you enjoy your books quite enough to be Ravenclaw. I am not saying this is where I will place you but I would like your opinion."

Peorth wasn't sure what to answer, he had to be in either Gryffindor or Slytherin, he had to be with some of his pack. The easy choice would be Gryffindor that was where everyone expected him to be, the boy saviour but no-one knew he was the saviour. If he chose Slytherin he would be with his mate and his human would be his head of house. He would be with Draco and Draco would no longer be the only pack member in Slytherin.

"Well then I suppose it will have to be... SLYTHERIN."

Peorth smiled widely and quickly made his way over to where Draco was clapping enthusiastically. The blonde boy hugged him tightly and whispered congratulations in his ear. He looked up at the Teachers table and gave his human a wide smile. He could feel how proud Severus was and was very happy with the hat's decision.

He couldn't believe that after all this time and everything that had happened he was finally a real student at Hogwarts.
