Tail Concerto: Shadowed Hearts
Chapter 4: She's awake! by vixon l
"Is she alright?" Snicker screeched to the doctor who came out from the tiny girls hospital room, the grey bearded terrier nodded slowly for a response. "Aiy, she'll be fine, if you overlook the sprained wrist and singed fur. But yes, she'll live."
The doctor motioned for the discoverers of this injured child to enter and view her. Waffle only shook his head in astonishment. "Amazing The other officers found a completely destroyed escape ship half a mile from her, it obviously exploded long before she landed. The parts are scattered all over the island."
Alicia made her way to the little rabbit, a look of utter confusion etched onto her features. "A rabbit? Alone? Her kind is found below us, so how did she manage to apprehend a ship and make it up here? It makes no sense…. None at all."
While the adults fussed over the oddity of the matters, Snicker made his way towards the girls medical bed, she lay so still, bandages covered her arms and floppy ears.
It terrified the boy to no end at the horrified expression that twitched over her light yellow face. Stroking her sprained hand gently, Snicker gasped when she shot up in a cold scream. The adults yelped at the sudden movement of the once sleeping child, then rushed to her aid upon watching her hunch over in shear pain.
"Oi! It hurts like a bugger." She hissed between bucked teeth, massaging her appendages with hesitant caresses. Alicia reached for her shoulders, setting the child back easily onto the cushioned pillows.
"Shhh, shhh. Take it easy. You're okay." Alicia pulled the cotton covers up to the girls chin, a warm motherly smile stretching over her lips. Waffle turned to his son, both exchanging glances at her sudden soft attitude towards this strange groundling.
Turning to face her family, with a sharp glare to go with it, "What! Did you think I'm strict all the time!"
The guys rubbed the back of their heads, sweat droplets appearing on the sides of their faces as both rolled their eyes away from Alicia in an 'O-kay' sort of way.
Fuming over that response, Alicia threw a bed pan at Waffles head, "I can be nice! I'm always nice!"
The bunny girl only watched the cat woman chase the dog man around her room, she slowly turned to the embarrassed kid beside her. "These blokes always like that?" She quizzed, jutting a thumb at the still fighting adults. The cat woman shrieked like a banshee when wound this tight, chucking what ever wasn't nailed to the floor at the still cowering other.
"Worse." Snicker groaned, watching his mother tackle his dad, anger lifting from her face when he kissed her. It always worked, and Waffle damn well knew it.
The rabbit girl turned back to Snicker, a shy flare in her eyes at the predicament she just got herself in. "My names Snicker Doodle Ryebreed, or just plain Snicker. That's my mom Alicia," They watched the lady all a fluster, cupping her burning cheeks with the look to kill Waffle in the near future for that, "And that Casanova is my dad, Waffle. Who'r you?"
Snicker was curious, leaning upon the metal rail of the bed to eagerly await the answer. The bunny's brown eyes grew at the names, yet she shrank a little by all the eyes focused entirely upon her now. Her face grew pink, responding in a soft whisper, "Bonbon."
"And what are you doing so far from home, Bonbon?" Waffle assisted his wife off himself, finally able to play cop now without an onslaught of items flying towards his head. Wiping out his note pad, he thus began to take notes on the girls statement.
Bonbon turned away from the officer, biting her quivering lip to steady it before beginning, finally responding in a trembling voice, "To warn ya's."
They were all thrown back a bit, Snicker scratching his head, 'Worn us, of what?'
The two officers pressed her to continue in explaining, not leaving out any word that passed the little girls lips.
"They…. They came into me village. Heartless bullies they was." Bonbon paused at the flooding memories, her tiny hands working the tears out of her eyes. "They wanted it. HE wanted it. I only escaped by…. By hiding." She sniffled as Alicia went to pat the child's back, cooing her to keep calm.
"If I hadn't hidden on one o' his lackie's ship, I would've met me maker…. Just like me pa." She began to huddle her body into the covers, "He didn't have ta kill me pa, he just….. just…. Oh, pa."
Snicker took the girls hand in his, wanting so badly to comfort her now that she survived the traumatic experience. The shock was destroying her now. "When we reached the main ship, I snuck all quiet like I did, hidin' in the vents for cover like a good groundling knows to do. No one ever expected that, boy did I feel airsick though. T-that's when….. "
Bonbon turned to Waffle with fear and sorrow visible from her misty eyes, shacking violently from the inside out, she continued, breaking the pause very slowly, "He just killed him! His own man. I felt cold, so cold and sick. Why is it so cold in here?" Snicker removed his jacket and draped it around her quivering frame, enveloping the bunny in its temporary warmth.
Taking a refreshing breath, Bonbon continued her morbid tale, "I nearly threw up but instead held down a gag. He heard me of course, knowing where I was. If it hadn't been for the nice lady, he would've killed me too. He almost did."
"Do you know his name?" Alicia inquired, fully disgusted at this heartless monsters actions.
"Tell us and I promise this sleeze will rot in jail with nothing but the hope of a beating everyday. You don't have anything to fear."
Bonbon gave a shaky grin, yet lost it upon remembering the message. "T-the man….. I think he was called…. Cyan."
All gasped, Waffle shook his head disbelieving at this. 'No. Cyan would never…. I know him. He wouldn't, he couldn't.'
Waffle stood rigid at this child's words. Perhaps she heard wrong, perhaps they were merely discussing ABOUT a different Cyan, or the world was full of others named the same. It couldn't be the one they thought she was speaking of. It just wasn't possible.
"Cyan?" Snicker spoke mainly to himself, with Bonbon only to nod, noticing all their stupefied faces fall into concern.
"And the message, the nice lady told me to find a man and woman named Waffle and Alicia. You would protect me, she couldn't. She said, 'Seek them out, he is coming.' She couldn't stop him. So I tried to escape, and to warn you he wants blood and power. So I'm here, telling you, warning ya's for her."
Alicia denied the news, Waffle finding a seat to collect his thoughts. 'I know he was mad, but why? Why this? And Stare…'
Alicia stomped around, biting down on her officer hat to keep from cursing in front of such young children. "Curse him!" Was the best the infuriated woman could scream. "I can't believe this! And my own sister too."
The woman managed to rip a large chunk of her hat off, the blue fabric in between clenched teeth. "GRRRR!"
Snicker turned to Bonbon, noticing the fear she held for Alicia's outrage, which any sane person would, and chuckled to shake off Bonbon's trembles, "Mom must be hungry." He assured, hoping to sooth the rabbits worries.
But Alicia wasn't done fuming, she had just scraped the surface and now threw all the restraint to the open winds, "I-I can't believe this. NO! I wont. There must be something wrong. You heard wrong. Cyan wont… he can't hurt anybody. He couldn't even keep Flare in a cell without hyperventilating from her tummy ache trick. It's not OUR Cyan!"
Waffle was desoeratly trying to convice himself of those words same exact words more than his wife did for Bonbon. This only caused the girl to burst into an endless flow of tears at their disbeliefe. "You don't believe me? I know what I saw, I know what the lady told me! Why can't you believe me? Why ….. can't you… ?" She sniffled with sobs, drenching her bandages with the salty fluid escaping her puffy red eyes.
None knew what to do or say after the little girls wails hit their ears, what could they say? They had no proof of anything other than a little girl being put through one hell of an experience. With a deep sigh, Waffle pushed the worst to the back of his mind.
"Panta to Waffle. Panta to Waffle."
The transmission came from Waffles radio, he quickly answered to know the urgency of the other officer. Distinct sounds of bombs in the background conflicted Panta's words, throwing the rest into exchange queer expressions.
"Porto…. It's under attack. WE can't hold them off! We cant…." The words ended, Waffle only received the fuzzy sound of air. "Panta? PANTA!"
No response. Only unknowing silence.
