Telepathy
“As punishment for these actions Qui-Gon Jinn will be sent to the prison moon of Kaldor for a 4 year period. He is striped of his title of Jedi Master and is from this moment forth cast out of the Jedi order.” Obi-wan opened his mouth to protest however Mace Windu continued, “While you insist that your union was one of mutual consent, Kenobi is underage and as such it was illegal.”
Qui-Gon wrapped a comforting arm around his lovers’ shoulders and pulled him close to his side.
“However Obi-wan Kenobi is a different matter; he will be sent to his home world for the extent of his pregnancy. After which the child shall be removed from his care,” Windu continued over their complaints, “If the child is force sensitive it will be brought to the temple if not it will be put up for adoption here on Coruscant.”
Qui-Gon wrapped his arms around Obi-wan and glared at the council members.
“What right do you have to take our child from him!”
He had expected something like this when the council had found out that Obi-wan was with child, but to take away his child was just cruel.
“We have every right.” Ki-Adi-Mundi stated.
“You broke Republic and the Jedi law by creating this child and you must be punished for it.” Eeth Koth continued.
“But why punish the child as well; it will never know its real parents!” Obi-wan said.
“Know your parents, you do not.” Yoda reminded him.
“No, but you seem determined to remedy that,” Obi-wan shot back.
“Leave immediately you both will, a transport there is waiting for each of you in the hanger.” Yoda told them before the door opened and two prison wards walked into the room to escort Qui-Gon away.
“NO.” Obi-wan screamed clinging to Qui-Gon as if it would stop them from taking him away. Qui-Gon held him tightly as he knew it would be his last time to do so for some time.
We will see each other again my love, I’ll find you where ever you go. Qui-Gon assured him as the prison wards tried to pull Obi-wan away so they could take his master.
Mace Windu came up behind him and used the force to help him pull Obi-wan away from Qui-Gon and pushed him over to Depa Billaba, who had remained quiet through out the whole meeting but now tried to offer some comfort to the stricken Padawan.
The two prison wards cuffed Qui-Gon’s hand then took a moment to remove all weapons from him, all of which they gave to Windu, before leading Qui-Gon out of the room.
I love you Qui-Gon Obi-wan sent through their bond as Qui-Gon disappeared from sight.
I love you too Obi-wan, I’ll find you. He sent back.
Obi-wan struggled briefly with the Chalactan woman but relented when Qui-Gon was removed from the room and let the Jedi Master hold him.
“I’m so sorry Obi-wan,” she whispered in his ear. As she held him she took a moment to push a note into his pocket, “read it once you’ve left the temple.” She then released him and turned him around to face Mace and Yoda.
“Mr Kenobi, because of the difficulty in contacting your home planet, to call your parents here, there is a knight waiting in the corridor for you who will escort you there. You are to go straight to your rooms, pack and then you will be taken to your transport. You are not to speak to anyone or go anywhere else before leaving, is that understood?”
Obi-wan nodded then walked out of the council room. Just as he had been told there was a knight outside who put a hand on his shoulder and lead him through the familiar halls towards the rooms which had belonged to himself and his love.
The knight waited just inside the door to the apartment while he moved around the room collecting his belongings. He walked into Qui-Gon’s room on impulse and grabbed his favourite robe which still smelt of his love from its use the night before. He also made sure that he had the river stone which Qui-Gon had given him on his thirteenth birthday. He stared at the rock fondly, he remembered when he had gotten the rock he had thought that it was just that: a rock. But it had turned into something more important to him over the years into had been his lifeline on many missions when he found he was losing hope or that he missed his master.
“Mr Kenobi, we need to leave,” the knight said from his position by the door.
Obi-wan put the river stone in his pocket and quickly put a few more things in his bag before looking once more around his home then moving towards the door with tears streaming down his face.
The knight grabbed his shoulder again and stirred him towards the hangers. Part of him was hoping that he would see one of his friends in the corridors just to see them one last time, but a larger of him dreaded it as he knew if he did he wouldn’t be able to hold himself together and he would just break down.
However the force on his side that day and all three of his closest friends came running down the corridor towards him.
“Obi-wan what’s going on? We just saw Qui-Gon being led out of the temple in handcuffs.” Gavin asked.
Obi-wan continued walking, his eyes downcast, without answering them, more for the fact that he felt he would collapse if he did then for the council’s orders.
“What’s wrong, talk to us Obi-wan.” His best friend, Bant insisted.
“Mr Kenobi isn’t allowed to talk to anyone, so please move away.” The knight said.
“Mr! Don’t you mean Padawan? Obi-wan what’s going on?” his other friend, Reeft asked.
“I say again, Mr Kenobi isn’t aloud to talk to anyone by order of the council, please move away before I have you all suspended from the order.”
Obi-wan looked at them one last time, imprinting them in his memory one last time, before reaching out with the force to touch their minds before quickly pulling back when the knights’ grip on his shoulder tightened. He made an attempt to smile at them one last time but it didn’t reach his eyes and he had to turn away quickly to try and get away from the hurt and confused look in his friends’ eyes.
When they arrived at the hanger, the council and Qui-Gon’s friend Tahl were waiting for him. He tried to look the council members in the eye but he ended up staring at Tahl’s sightless ones instead.
Tahl wasted no time on taking the grieving teenager in her arms despite the disapproving stares that the council gave her.
“Everything is going to be fine, and I am going to try and visit you whenever possible, Ok?” she told him, not caring if the council heard her.
“But what about Qui-Gon, 4 years in prison, what if something happens to him?”
“Qui-Gon is strong; 4 years in prison will be like a walk in the park for him…well maybe more like a walk in the park trying to herd a group of shaak, but a walk in the park none the less.”
Obi-wan smiled half-heartedly against her shoulder before moving away and looking at the council members.
“A knight will be sent to check up on you every month, if you aren’t where we left you there will be dire consequences for both you and your child. Is that understood?” Windu asked.
“Yes sir.” Obi-wan said before moving into the ship with the knight following behind him, after being given orders by the council on where to take him.
He waited till he was in his room for the journey before collapsing on the bed with his master cloak in hand and crying himself to sleep.
Chalactan – Depa Billaba’s race.
