Will sighed and continued to watch Commodore Norrington...his James...he called him silently. He was still amazed by the man after all of the years he’d known him, and even after their run in with Jack Sparrow, James intrigued him.

Jack, Will snorted softly glancing up from his ‘hiding’ spot to make sure no one had heard him. Jack had been the only one so far to figure out the truth. The truth of his affections and whom he loved.

Elizabeth, he loved her, she was like the sister he’d never had. His best friend growing up...his only friend in reality. And actually after thinking about it he wondered if Elizabeth knew, the way she grinned at him whenever James was around.

Will sighed and hung his head. He had played up the yearning lover after Elizabeth quite well...he really didn’t think the public knew he did it only to be near the Commodore. It was almost worth the trouble he went through sometimes, almost, until James looked at him loathing in his eyes. In reality it wasn’t LOATHING anymore but more annoyance.

Yearning for a man he could never have, a man who would never even give him a parting glance. How he longed to touch the lightly tanned cheek, caress the beautiful soft lips. To just touch the man at all. Touch the creature of perfection that haunted his dreams at night and his thought during the day.

He pulled himself out of hiding and headed back towards the smithy, sparing one last glance at the figure of Norrington before he rounded the corner. He paused mid-step and turned and began heading towards the Governor’s home. Glad of the darkening shadows and the quickly falling night he hid himself in the shadows beneath a tree until it was dark enough to scale the tree and lean over and climb onto Elizabeth’s balcony.

“William? Is that you?” Elizabeth’s voice called and she came out onto the balcony, “I thought you would be here before now.” She frowned at seeing his somber expression, “Oh Will, again?”

Will looked at her, slightly nervous and asked, “What again?”

“Oh Will, you’ve been watching James haven’t you? I know you like him.” Elizabeth said gently.

“I don’t just like him,” Will said softly, as he sat down, staring into the sky. He sighed he wasn’t sure how to put into words how he felt. “It’s like when I see him, my heart stops, I can’t breathe, I can’t talk...it’s like the entire universe suddenly stands still caught in that one moment. His eyes remind me of the Caribbean after a storm...” Will trailed off eyes stinging, “His voice makes me shiver...” He sighed and broke himself off again, “My soul and heart ache for him Liz and he can’t tolerate me. It hurts, every time I see him I feel like someone is ripping my heart out, it feels like I’ve lost my parents all over again except it chills me clear through my soul.” Will stood and kissed Elizabeth on the cheek. “I’m sorry Liz, I’ll let you go, you don’t need to hear me rant on unrequited love. Goodnight sister of my heart.”

Elizabeth watched Will climb down the tree and whispered, “Goodnight Brother dear. Don’t despair. Dream of your love to comfort you this night.” Elizabeth whispered and glanced up at the moon and whispered. “I would give the very world for James to love Will back.” She glanced out over the water again before going inside.

A figure slipped out of the shadows and walked down the road, following the path Will had taken.

Elsewhere on the high seas a figure grinned and continued to hum, changing the direction they were heading and his surprisingly sober voice rang out gently. “A change in the wind indeed.”
