A/N: Hey! This is the sequel to Like Father, Like Son. So ya might want to take a look at it so you're not completely clueless.
Sorry ahead of time; I'm kind of rushing through the first year and a half. I actually put one whole year in two paragraphs. But they dont' help the flow of the story to well, you'll just see once you've read it.
Disclaimer: I didn't own anything in the first story, and I sure as hell don't own anything in this one. Except the main idea of the story, though...and original characters...but that doesn't really matter and anyway I'm pretty sure you're not even reading this so let's just end it right here.
The Trouble With Love
Chapter 1:
"Now, Mommy! Please?" A little boy with messy red hair pleaded. It had been a week since he and his sister had heard the story (or at least a part of it) of how his parents had gotten together, and they still wouldn't tell them the rest!
"Cody," Ginny said tiredly. She was eight months pregnant, and very tired. She'd also had a rough day, because Cody's sister (her daughter), Lizzie, was sick. Harry has taken a day off and took Cody around to the park, and to visit Ron, so she had the day in silence with Lizzie.
But now it was 9:30 at night, and was their bedtime. And, as she had promised, he wanted a story.
"It's okay, honey, I'll tell it," Harry said, coming up behind her and putting his arm around her waist. He pulled out his wand and flicked it, and a cushy chair appeared. He led Ginny to it and she sat down gratefully.
He started, "It was the summer before my first year of training and your mother's last year at Hogwarts. . ."
Their first year out of Hogwarts went basically as they expected. They each got an apartment near the entrance to the Ministry, and Hermione immediatly showed excellence in her job at the Department of Magical Cooperation. Harry and Ron started their training as Aurors, excersising their magical skills to the point of exhaustion.
Ginny graduated Hogwarts with top marks, immediatly being accepted to train as a Healer. During the summer before everyone started on their own lives, they all came to Grimmauld Place for a little 'reunion.'
"So, Harry," Remus said one day, "What do you think of Auror training?"
"Hard," he said. "The first year is basically just learning the things we've got to do, techiniques, stuff like that. Next year and the year after that they're going to test us. I think the first part is antidotes."
"Wow," he said, and then turned to Hermione. "How about you, Hermione?"
"Oh!" Her eyes lit up. "I love it! It's so interesting, seeing and meeting all of these witches and wizards from other countries. In a couple of months I'm going to France to meet someone and bring them back here."
Harry got up and left to find Ginny as Remus and Hermione talked some more.
"Ginny?" he knocked on the door to her bedroom.
She opened the door and smiled. "Hi, Harry!"
"Hey," he said, and walked in when she gestured for him to sit down.
"How was your last year at Hogwarts?"
She sighed. "Boring, without you guys there. But okay, I guess. How was Auror training?"
He shrugged. "It's kind of cool, I'm making some friends there, but it's hard. You can't dose off or anything, and there's no Hermione to copy off of." She laughed. "But I can't wait until I'm an Auror, until I can actually help do something."
She nodded thoughtfully. "That's why I want to be a Healer."
"What? Really?" he said, surprised.
"Yeah. I want to help people. I realized that when Dad had to go to St. Mungo's two years ago." She walked over to him. "I missed you," she said softly.
He put his arms around her. "I missed you too." He kissed her, and, like always, he felt the most wonderful sensation when she kissed back.
((Half A Year Later))
"Ginny, you've got another letter." The elderly Healer Hodges said to Ginny as she walked out of a patient's room. "I think it's from Harry. How's Jonathan?"
Ginny sighed. "He's doing better physically than mentally. He really wanted to play Quidditch again this year, but that's just not possible." Jonathan Mathews had gotten injured badly playing Quidditch, and was put on Ginny's floor. She was still training, but they let her take care of some patients on her own.
"Well, that's all we can expect. Here's your letter," she said, handing Ginny the letter and walking down the hallway to another room.
Glancing at the seal, she saw it was from Harry. She looked up at the clock, and realized it was time to go home. She went back to the Healer's station and picked up her purse. "Bye, Celia," she said to another Healer who was eating something and reading a magazine. She waved in response.
On the way out of St. Mungo's, she opened her letter.
Dear Ginny,
How's work lately? Is that Jonathan person you mentioned doing better?
Listen, if you get vacation time for Christmas, would you like to stay with me? The pull out couch is actually really comfortable, and my apartment doesn't have a guest room. If you don't want to or already have plans, that's okay. I understand.
Love you,
Harry
Ginny smiled. Great! She'd actually been feeling pretty down about Christmas. She did get time off, a week, actually, and she'd been wondering about what to do with it, as Hermione was spending it with Ron.
She pulled a quill out of her purse and quickly sqribbled a note.
((Harry's POV))
"Mate, you've got a letter," Ryan said. Ryan Singleton, former Gryffindor Beater, had also decided to become an Auror. He was staying in the same apartment building as Harry and Ron, and they had become good friends.
"Thanks," Harry said, looking up and taking it from him. He had been trying to memorize the antidote to a Sleeping Drought, but any excuse not to do that he would take gladly.
He opened the letter and read:
Dear Harry,
Of course! I'd love to spend Christmas with you. I get a week off, starting when work ends on December 21. How about I come the next morning?
Love,
Ginny
He smiled. "Hey, Ryan," he said, "Hand me the calander."
Smack.
"I DIDN'T SAY THROW IT!" Harry grumbled (loudly) as he caught the calander after it had hit him in the back of the head. Checking it, he picked up a quill and some parchment.
Ginny,
That'd be fine! Can't wait.
Love, Harry
Harry smiled to himself. She was so unsuspecting...
((December 22))
Knock knock knock. Ginny wrapped lightly on the door. It opened to a smiling Harry.
"Ginny!" he said, and, picking her up, he swung her around (making sure not to hit anything.) When he put her down, she was laughing, and he picked up her luggage and gestured for her to come inside.
"I love it!" She said, looking around. And she did. He led her to the living room and showed her the couch.
"I'll set it up when you want to go to bed," he explained. It was a dark green, soft couch that had cushy armrests.
She sat on one and giggled. "I don't think I'll need it. It looks pretty comfy by itself."
He shrugged. "Whatever you want."
"What do you want to do?" she asked him after a moment.
"Do you want to go downtown and see the Christmas tree?"
"Yeah!"
The next few days went like that. Harry showed her the sights, they laughed about Ron and Hermione, and they bought last minute Christmas gifts for friends that probably wouldn't even get them and the gift would lay around forgotten. But it was fun.
Finally, it was 11:55 on Christmas Eve. They were sitting on the couch, enjoying a TV program (Harry just had to endulge in his Muggle upbringing, no matter how bad the upbringing was). There was a clock in the corner of the screen counting down to Christmas. Finally, it reached midnight.
"Merry Christmas, Harry!" Ginny said, turning to him to find him watching her. "Harry, is everything is okay?"
Instead of answering, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box.
"Ginny, I want to ask you something," he said nervously.
Ginny's eyes widened. She think she knew what was coming. . .she looked into Harry's green eyes.
"Will you marry me?"
She gasped as her eyes filled with tears. "Yes," she said as she flung her arms around his neck. "Yes, I'll marry you."
A/N: Wow, all that in one chapter! A whole year and a half IN ONE CHAPTER! yay. I know it was kind of rushed. . .sorry. But it'll get more exciting. Maybe. Anyhoo REVIEW!
