even you have forgotten what you're looking for
in the folds of your decaying jeans
enticed by the curve of a pale slender arm
you watch her smoke a cigarette down to the filter
counting the freckles on her nose
she's barely a child
i fold away the winter sheets
and open a window to let the spring air flow inside
dancing on my cheeks
i remember breathing you air
and how it tasted warm and fleshy
her breath is like honey to your eager mouth
i fill the rooms with cut lilacs
their scent will shroud
the lilies
