Spoiler: Haunted Leg
This is my first Gilmore Girl fic. I was inspired to write it after I saw, Haunted Leg, the episode where Lorelai & Rory fight with Chris at Emily's house. That was actually a really good episode. Anyways, this takes place after the episode, not before or in the middle of it, but after.
Well here it is. Enjoy! Also, please read and review!
P.S. How do you spell Mishel? Is it Michelle (like a girl), Michael (like the guy, but pronounced that way cause of the whole french thing), Mishel (the way it sounds) or Michele? I am going to spell it Mishel for now. Once somebody tells me how to really spell it, then I will fix it.
Also is Sookie spelled S-O-O-K-I-E or S-U-K-I? I am going to go with the first one.
Pacing back in forth in front of Luke's diner, Lorelai felt blood pulsing through her veins, contracting each muscle in her body. She didn't want to walk in there just yet. Kirk was in there. She couldn't face him, not yet. It was way to weird.
"Has this become like a ritual with you now?"
"Holy shit!" Lorelai yelled. "Rory you scared the hell outa me. When did you become so sneaky anyway?"
"I think it is an inherited trait. You're pretty sneaky yourself. So, whatcha doin'? Can't bring yourself to go into Luke's?"
"I could go in there if I really wanted to, but it is such a nice day outside. Why waste it away inside where there is... coffee!" Lorelai screamed, pressing her face up against Luke's door. A women had just walked by with a cup of coffee. "Ugh! I can smell it out here. What is that women doing? She is wasting a perfectly good cup of coffee," Lorelai wailed as the women with the coffe cup began to add suger and other artificial sweetners into the dark liquid. "Is she nuts? Who the hell puts creamer in their coffee? Rory, where are you going?"
Rory began to push open the door to Luke's diner. "Going to get some coffee before that lady ruins it all with her creamer and sugar. Come on!"
"I can't go in there. See that person with the wierd hair sitting at the counter? Do you not recognize him? That is Kirk. The same Kirk who lives with his mother and asked me on a date, to which I turned him down."
"Fine then. Stay here," Rory replied, stepping through the diner door. "But don't expect me to bring you out any coffee."
"Hey! That is so unfair. I was in labor with you for.. a good number of hours!" Lorelai yelled after her. "Damn," she grumbled and followed Rory through the doors.
"I can't believe you," Lorelai scolded as she sat down beside Rory. "You think after all these years, you would have earned some kind of appreciation for me or at least have the decency to bring me a cup of coffee. What happened to you?"
"Do you do things like that for your mother?" Rory asked pointedly.
"Of course not. That would be insane."
"Exactly."
Interrupting their conversation, Luke walked up in his usual flannel shirt and grimy, backwards hat.
"I would pay big bucks to see you in a suit and tie. Hell, it would be nice to see you in something that wasn't plaid. Sometimes, if you squint really hard and look really close, your shirt actually looks unplaid. Dare I say it, one color," Lorelai joked.
"I feel naked already," Luke deadpanned. "What can I get for you? Coffee? Vegetables maybe?"
"Are you trying to kill me? Veggies... I feel sick just thinking about it. Bring me the biggest donut you have with lots of sprinkles."
"Coffee too?"
"That's a given."
"Of course. Rory?"
"Pancakes and coffee. Oh and Luke, can you put lots of whip cream on the pancakes?"
"If you promise not to share any with the sugar queen over here."
"Deal," Rory replied, nodding her head as Luke walked away.
"Traitor," Lorelai said, glaring at Rory.
"I had my fingers crossed."
"Ah yes. I have trained thee well grasshopper."
"Only my mind. If I see that rodent one more time, I am going to have a heart attack. Eventually, someone is going to notice that thing."
"Of course, I knew you lost your mind," Lorelai said, dismissing the fact that there was a mouse running loose somewhere. "Have fun Mishel." With that Lorelai walked into the kitchen, hoping to find Sookie. As always, she was busy running around.
"Hey Lorelai. How... are... you... doing?" Sookie's words were coming in short gasps, as if she was out of breath.
"Sookie, calm down." Lorelai put her hands on Sookie's shoulders, leading her to sit in the nearest chair. "Tell me what the problem is."
"... am I going to cook?" Sookie said exasperatedly, her words running together, but of course, Lorelai caught it all.
"Jackson will get over it and like I said before, vegetarians love pasta. If all else fails, we can lock them up down stairs that way we can do experiments on them to find out why they hate meat so much. Plus, it will stop them from spreading vegetarianism all over the world. How in the world, someone can eat that many veggies is beyond me."
"Hello?"
"Lorelai?"
"Chris?"
"Yeah, hi. Is Rory home yet? I wanted to talk to her."
"She's in her room, but she told me that if you called she would rather not talk to you... right now. Like I told you Chris , give her time. She will come around. Rory needs space. It is the only way she will get over this. You can't force her to be happy with it."
"I don't want to force her to do anything Lorelai, but I don't want her to be mad at me forever. Can I please talk to her?"
"Hold on." Lorelai walked to Rory's room and knocked on the door. "Rory! Can I come in?"
"Come on in."
"Hey sweetie." Lorelai held the phone to her chest, muffling the conversation from Chris. "Your dad's on the phone. He really wants to talk to you."
"Well, I don't want to talk to him. He can't do this to me mom, he can't do this to us."
"Will you just give him his chance? Let him know how you feel. If you get mad at him, you can always hang up or say something clever and then hang up," Lorelai joked.
"Okay," Rory sighed, giving in. Lorelai handed her the phone and walked out, shutting the door behind her.
"Hello?"
"Rory, hi. I thought you were never going to speak to me again."
"Don't push it."
"Can we talk?"
"We are."
"Well, will you at least back off just a little. Give me the chance to explain."
"I can't make any promises, but shoot."
"Rory, I want to be there for you and your mom. I really do, but this new baby..."
"Is more important," Rory said, cutting him off.
"No, of course not. How could you think that?"
"Because one minute you were here and the next minute you were gone. You expect us to just say 'Hey, no problem. He is having a baby.' That's not going to happen."
"I didn't say this would be easy. If I could change things I would, but I can't. This baby is coming no matter what. I need to be here for him or her."
"Just like you were for me."
"Can you cut the sarcasm Rory? You're just like your mother."
"Well at least she was always there. She never just walked off and left me."
"Is that what you think I did?"
"It is what you did. You find out you are going to have a baby and then suddenly, we are not important enough. You just dump mom and decide that the new child is more important. Mom loves you."
"I love her too and you."
"That is such a lie. If you did you would marry her, not someone else. I hate you! I will always hate you!" Rory yelled, hanging up the phone and throwing it across the room.
"Rory?" Lorelai came into Rory's room to see her crying on her bed.
"He doesn't love us mom," she sobbed.
"Honey, yes he does. Lorelai laid Rory's head in her lap and stroked her hair. "Yes he does."
