A/N- This is the first time I've ever atempted to write a Dawn/Draco story but I have read many and loved them so might as well give it a shot right? I haven't writen or updated anything recently because I'm involved with a play but play will be over very soon and schools almost out so what better time to begin a new story? Hope you all enjoy.
Rating- PG13
Summary- Dawn's entering Hogwarts a tad bit late. Okay a lot late, she's 18 and seeking a career in being a watcher. Thing is you have to go through training, training she didn't know of till it was way too late. Thankfully for her she has connections and is let into this school having to go through a years worth of training that usually takes 7 years, Hard enough as it is right? Now add a new annoying DADA teacher who seems to hate her, Snape, and a new brewing evil out to get her 'cause some prophesy. What do ya get? A Year of Tuesdays.
Disclaimer- J.K Rowling owns all things HP and Joss owns all things BtVS.
" What do you mean it isn't that easy? Of course it's that easy! I mean your a watcher... Can't be that difficult. " Ranted Dawn, her long chestnut brown hair falling out of her high bun and narrowed blue eyes blazing. The room was eerily quiet as the 19 year old threw herself into a chair near the dusty old table. Customers quickly left the shop and the silence was cut with the annoying ringing of the bell above the door. Giles, the old watcher man, stood and walked to the door taking a key out of his pocket and locking it.
" Thanks for yelling loudly enough to disrupt the costumers shopping and scare them off, now thinking I'm probably some stalker. " He said his glasses already off and he pinched his nose in an annoyed manner.
" Mans got a point Dawn you can't just yell out about Slayer stuff, I know slayers are more abundant nowa days but normal people still have no need to know that. " Buffy told her younger sister in hopes to scold yet not anger the 19 year old ex key. Giles had set up a new store in Rome, where they now resided, and renamed it the magic shop. It looked like an almost replica of the one in Sunnydale only larger and containing more dusty old books. Dawn sighed.
" I know and I'm sorry but, Giles this is what I want to do! This is like my calling or whatever. You can't just say boom nope can't do it. " She said giving her best wounded puppy dog look Giles' way. He placed his glasses back on.
" Now I didn't say boom nope can't do it, I said it won't be that easy. Buffy you remember, I told you I was 11 when my father told me I was to be a watcher I went through 7 years of training in order to be one. It's a requirement. " He told her warily. Her face fell. Silence yet again. cricket
" Oh. " She whispered feeling her heart ache. All she really wanted to do was help girls like her sister, help them cope and fight and... she just wanted to help.
" I'm sorry Dawnie I know you really wanted to do this- " Began Buffy placing a comforting hand on her sisters shoulder.
" I didn't say it couldn't happen. I happen to know someone whom most likely wouldn't mind helping. But it would take work, and I mean alot. " Giles said interupting the blonde slayer and earning two wide grins,
" OH MY GOSH! " Was heard from the squealing teen only to be halted by a hand from Giles.
" I still have to get his permission. And you'd have a year, at the least, of training non-stop. Now your sure this is what you want? " He asked narrowing his eyes into her own. She smiled.
" If it means being half the watcher you are then yes, I'm positive. " She replied earning a blush from the watcher who smiled genuinely her way.
" Well then I'll owl him tonight, half of the watcher I am now? Well I- "
" Wait, owl him? "
" Wow. " Was uttered from the blonde slayer.
" I'll double that wow with a wowzerz. " Dawn replied staring at Giles in complete awe. " Why did you never tell us? " She asked curiously and slightly accusingly. He cleared his throat.
" Well it's not like I am a wizard, I was simply trained how to be one I suppose you could say. " He explained rather lamely.
" All this time you've still been like conected to the wizarding world thing. We could have had major help with lots of stuff like Glory or the master or- " Buffy began rambling and Dawn stood looking out the window. Giles stood behind her.
" Alot to take in I suppose? " He asked. She nodded.
" Majorly. I mean this is like a dream, I've always wanted to learn magic and be a watcher. Now I can kill a bird with one stone, not that I would ever kill a bird, or you know not that this Dumbledore guy will even agree to any of this stuff. " She mused more to herself than to Giles.
" I have a good feeling he will. He's most likely the most kind hearted man I've ever had the honour to meet. Here if it makes you feel better I'll go write him now. " Giles said earning a small smile from Dawn. He began walking away to his office.
" Hey Giles... Thanks. " He only smiled in return.
" - Or hey even the whole Angelus thing... No one's listening to me right? " Buffy asked looking over at Dawn.
" Nope. " Replied the burnet who screamed when suddenly being chased down by the slayer and tackled to the ground.
" Okay heffer, mind getting off me now? " Dawn asked atempting to push the slayer off. Buffy didn't nudge.
" Look Dawn, I just want you to know, I am so proud of you. You're going to be one heck of a watcher for some lucky slayer out there. And you know if this doesn't work out you can always help with the slayers back at the house- "
" I will be one hell of a watcher won't I? " Dawn interupted. And the night's peaceful silence was yet again bothered with a howl of laughter from the magic shop.
" Will you two shut the bloody hell up? " Came a yell from the store.
" Sorry! "
The sun was up and birds were chirping a gorgeous day, unless of course you were unlucky enough to be the one awake at 7 on a Saturday morning.
" God, why'd you wake me up I had a late shift last night, and there's not even any doughnuts! " Xander said resting his feet on the table which was swatted off by Andrew who placed the dooughnuts down on the table earning a ' that's better ' from Xander.
" Yeah, some of us had plans ya know. " Andrew said earning everyones attention to go on him.
" Really now? " Asked Buffy with an amused grin, " Well by all means Andrew- "
" Uh hello? I have something to say. That's why you're all down here. " Dawn said now the atention diverting towards her. The store actually only had Xander, Buffy, Giles, Andrew, Willow, and herself there.
" Important enough to have woken up at 7? " Asked a yawning Willow.
" Well yeah you see I'll be leaving in two hours. " Silence. "I'm leaving to Hogwarts actually, to become a watcher, I got the news at like 4 last night and well I wanted to tell you all. " She explained.
" You're really leaving? " Came the quiet reply of her elder sister. She stared at her with fresh tears in her green eyes. Dawn took a deep breath willing herself to stay composed for them all.
" It's my dream Buff, and I'll be coming back for the holidays... It's only a year no biggie. " She trailed off biting her lower lip.
" They grow up so damn fast. " Xander said standing and taking Dawn in his arms. She smiled and hugged back her what seemed like older brother.
" Now who'll I gossip with about Buffy's poor choses in men? " Willow asked standing as well and hugging her younger friend. They heard a muffled, ' hey' .
" Um, like who'll I talk about boys with now? Wait you didn't hear that. " Andrew said going over and hugging causing Xander to quickly back off. They all let go.
" I'm so proud of you Dawn. Following in my footsteps. " She snorted but hugged Giles anyway. The hug was much quicker. Buffy remained seated.
" Well? " Dawn asked.
" Well what? Your leaving, I mean I can't proect you while your in England- "
" I don't need protection anymore. All I need is your aprovement. " Dawn told her sister tears forming in her own eyes. Buffy looked back up at her sister.
" I think I can give you that. " And the two hugged holding one another tightly, Dawn only wished her mother could be here.
" Alright you take the powder and say diagon alley. Understood? " Dawn nodded, she took the soft powder in her hands and stood in the decently clean fireplace.
" Giles, before i like floo or whatever I just want to say... Thanks and you really are like the dad I never really had. " He smiled and tears almost seemed to appear in his eyes.
" Off you go then. " He whispered. She nodded and cleared her throat.
" Diagon Alley. " And the green flames engulfed her.
