Chapter 8: Saku-chan!
“I hate you...” she said harshly. Her eyes held a look of depression that he had never seen her in before. The tears lightly caressing her cheek intensified this look.
“I know...” he smiled. These words stung him, but deep down inside he knew she didn’t mean it. She attempted to turn and take her first steps but, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a warm embrace. “Don’t go.” he whispered.
She didn’t push him away, she just stood there unable to move her arms returning the feeling. It’s not that she didn’t want to, she knew she couldn’t. She knew what is was like to have a screwed up life, she didn’t want kill his life either. Finally she pushed him away. This time as she walked away he didn’t pull her back.
“Why are you leaving?!” he shouted at her back. This wasn’t stopping her, but it slowed her down. “I can give you anything you ever need! You’ll always have a home to go to, you’ll always have people who love you around you! You’ll never be alone, I’ll never let anything hurt you! Please, don’t leave.” By this time, she was almost out of his sight. “Don’t go,” he whispered to the wind, he pushed back his tears, “... I love you...”
Kurama and Maru
Haruka watched as her ‘lover’ and this green eyed beauty were engaged in battle. Haruka yawned and stretched in her laying position, “I hate it when Maru toys with his opponents, he makes these battles take so long... if he doesn’t finish this up quick my plan won’t work.” Haruka stood up and examined the wooded area nearby. She sniffed the air, she was getting close, almost time. “Maru please, hurry up, I’m getting hungry and someone has to go look after the others.”
Kurama was in a tough spot though, true, he no doubt had the upper hand, but he knew he couldn’t take the life of this pathetic thing called an opponent. Kurama had examined his surroundings, they weren’t just fighting in the middle of nowhere. This was a home to people, in the far distance there could be seen young ones, similar looking to this one he was fighting now. Obviously, he was a somebody to these ‘others’. But Kurama risked the fact that these others were evil and possibly more annoying than him, but if they were, that’s what Yusuke and the others were there for.
“Maru-chan Hurry up!” Haruka yelled to her ‘lover’ again.
Maru turned to his friend, “Why don’t you go somewhere else and leave me to have my fun?” Maru stuck his tongue out at her.
“Baka...” Haruka said under her breath.
“I heard that!” Maru commented childishly. He watched as Haruka ran off somewhere else. ‘That’s not the way back home...’ he thought. ‘I wonder if she’s thinking straight... maybe I’m starting to rub off on her... he he he... Wait.. OH NO! I want to be the only one like me around! NO! THERE’S ONLY ROOM FOR ONE MARU IN THIS WORLD!’
Kurama watched as Maru waved his fists in front of his face and stomped his foot a few times. Taking advantage of this moment Kurama whipped his whip around Maru’s ankle and pulled causing the foolish wolf demon to stumble.
Maru yelped as his ankle bled slightly. Kurama pulled his whip back and snapped it back onto the sad excuse of an opponent. This time he aimed for the arm. Catching on Maru hit it away only to scratch himself in various spots due to the thorns. He stood up.
“You know you’re really mean.”
Kurama sweat dropped. “Well you’re not the kindest person either.”
Maru laughed. “Ha ha! I know! Ha ha!” Maru put his hands on his hips and laughed the whole two attacks on himself off.
“Listen, Maru... I don’t want to cause any trouble here. Just return my comrade and we’ll be on our way.”
Maru’s expression changed. “I’m afraid I can’t do that. You see your friend will prove useful to our future plans. Besides we have her in some of our best living quarters! No worries my dear fox fiend she’s in good hands.”
“Then I have no choice but to take her by force.” Maru watched as the fox demon clutched the whip a little tighter. A smile crept onto his face.
“Good, this is where it gets fun...” Suddenly Maru started running towards Kurama.
With Sakura
Sakura stared at the horrible sight before her eyes. All the familiar scenery now made sense to her. “Maru.” she said out loud to no one but to herself. Sakura cautiously stepped forward and looked around. There was the small waterfall, the grass area where they’d sit and eat, the water he would splash her with. She looked up and saw the giant boulder where they use to sit and talk about everything. Sakura stared at everything. It never occured to her that somewhere could hold so many memories. Quickly she shook off the reminiscing and focused again. She began to run but looked back one more time...
“Saku-chan?”
“I don’t like it when you call me that.”
“But I like it...” the voice whined.
“So?”
His voice of innocence never seemed to have any affect on her. “Saku-chan I have a question for you.”
“What is it?”
“Do you like it here?”
It was a cute scene, two younger children no older than 6 or 7, sitting there on a giant boulder overlooking the beautiful waterfall nearby. Their small bodies barely took up any of the sitting space on the rock.
“Saku-chan, do you like it here?” The wolf demon now pulled on his friend’s arm. His baby blue eyes shimmered in the slowly faltering sunlight. His baby blue eyes were met by soft violet ones.
“Of course I do. Why do you ask?” She held his hand.
“Well my father says that one day when he’s too old to take care of everyone, I’ll have to do it.” The violet eyed girl listened closely her eyes drifting to the waterfall.
“That’s exciting. You’ll be able to be a great leader like your father.”
“Psh! I’ll be better!” The boy bragged. He was now standing holding his arm up to show off his so called muscles. The girl looked at him not sure of why he was holding his arm up. Maru finally sat back down his expression changed to a more serious one. “Saku-chan, I was wondering...” he looked to see if his friend was listening, “Well I wanted to know if you’d help me out when.”
“Help you? If you’re gonna be such a great leader... why do you need help?”
Maru blushed. “Well father says it’s very important that I find someone to help me... like, like the way my mommy used to help him before she died.” He shyly looked to his friend again. Her smile caught him off guard.
“Maru, I’ll help you.”
“Really you will?!” The boy’s voice was ecstatic.
“Yup.”
“Oh boy! We’re gonna be the best leaders ever!”
“But Maru...” The boy stopped his cheers. “I won’t be your wife.”
“WHAT?!” the boy was caught off guard again. “I never wanted you to be in the first place! I never asked you to be! I never even brought that up!”
“Ha ha ha!”
“Stop laughing it’s not funny. You’re so weird Sakura!” The girl glared and pushed the boy off the boulder.
Presently
“It’s about time you showed up. Your speed has slowed down quite a bit. You’re not quite as fast as you used to be Saku-chan.”
“You know Haru-chan you’re still are rude as ever.”
“Awe, but we all have fun calling you this, it’s like a tradition or something. You know how something never change kinda like that glare you’re giving me right now.”
“Oh right. So tell me is this tradition of you stupidly chasing Maru around for his love still going on? Ha ha! I bet you’re right when you say somethings never change.”
Violet eyes and green eyes glared at each other. Sakura and Haruka rivals since meeting each other.
“Saku-chan, You know there’s really nothing for us to say to each other anymore. Let’ just settle this the way she should have done long ago.” Haruka flipped her hair in the manner that always bothered Sakura.
“You have no complaints from my behalf. And just to go easy I’ll leave my sword out of this.” Sakura placed her katana down. And nudged it with her foot to the side.
‘Geeze! She’s even more foolish than before! Falling right into my trap just like that! Ha! I’ll have no problem winning Maru over after this is!’
