Jack had barely recognized the man that slept in the medical caves. He wasn’t exactly watching Sawyer sleep. He was in the cave sorting through some of the new supplies that Kate, Charlie and Sawyer had found. It looked like Sawyer was having some kind of a nightmare. He was terrified tossing and turning as he mumbled something in a scared tone. He didn’t seem like the Sawyer who had made everyone’s life on the island that much harder, or the man who was responsible for the death of a little kids parents, or the con man that destroyed countless lives.

He was just another one of them, angry, lost terrified. For a second he had to wonder what happened to make him so jaded, so angry, and so willing to hurt others. For a second he felt sorry for him, he knew what it was like to be haunted. Then he remembered it was Sawyer and tried to shake off the sorrow he felt for him. Sawyers mumbling became louder and her clearly heard the words ‘sorry’ and ‘no’. That was the last thing he mumbled before shooting up from his sleep. He seemed to be in a trance for the first few seconds. He then took in his surroundings not seeing Jack, he leaned back relieved.

“What are you doing here?” Sawyer asked him.

“Seemed like one hell of a nightmare you were having” Jack mentioned ignoring Sawyers comment.

“Well Doc, think its time I got discharged” Sawyer told Jack with a smirk. “Spending a week in a cave with you is a nightmare”

“Do you have those often?” He then asked, Sawyer gave him a questioning look. “Nightmares”

“God, you’re a shrink now too?” Sawyer groaned.

“Last time some one had nightmares here she got kidnapped” Jack told him

“I don’t have evil natives hunting me down” Sawyer told him.

“Then why the nightmares?” Jack asked, Sawyer knew he wasn’t going to give up.

“Had the since I was a kid doc” Sawyer said. “Ever si..” He began and stopped himself.

“Ever since?” Jack asked him.

“How’s Locke?” He then asked completely changing the subject.

“You suddenly care?” Jack asked.

“Forget it” Sawyer told him as he lifted himself off the bed and avoided the pain shooting through his body as he stood up. “I’m heading back to the beach” He then began to pack up his stuff. “Fax me the hospital bill”. Jack didn’t have anytime to protest or tell him that he needed to stay at the caves for longer.

As much as Jack despised Sawyer he knew heading back to the beach wasn’t the best idea considering that he wasn’t close to being recovered yet. Though knew he was stubborn and convincing him to stay a few more days was impossible and he knew he had to check on Locke.

Sawyer had managed to make his way half way to the beach before ignoring any amount of pain to get away from Jack became next to impossible. He dropped his bags by a near by tree as he leaned against it and slid down slowly. He just needed to rest for a few minutes. He was fine, and he wasn’t giving Jack the satisfaction of needing his help again.

His hand travelled to the back of his head running his fingers over the fading head wound from his first night being out it the jungle, where he was attacked by her.

Sawyer had awoken with a painful feeling at the back of his head he tried to move his hand but he was unable to move his arm. He looked down panicking as he Sawyer his hands and legs had been chained to a table. He instantly felt like he was going to have a run in with Dr Frankenstein.

He then remembered what Sayid had said about the French chick. He knew that would probably mean being tortured by her and from what he saw of Sayid when he returned she was a master of torture. Though he knew egging some one as unstable as the French woman wasn’t the best idea, but at that point he didn’t care what happened to him.

“Jumping a guy from behind and chaining him up, aren’t we brave?” Sawyer said with a smirk. He heard footsteps’ coming hi way, he knew what he was probably in for. He was shocked at the person he saw standing above him.

She couldn’t of been the French woman who sent the transmission she was to young. She couldn’t of been much older then 25, if that. She would have had to been a kid when the transmission had started, so who was she?

He looked over studying her he could tell she was terrified of him, which made little sense considering she clearly had the upper hand. She had messy dark hair and a look on her face that was completely contradictive to the vulnerable look he saw in her eyes. The thing that was most notable about her was her arms that weren’t covered by the rags she called clothes. The were completely covered in scars. Not just any scars but they where shapes and symbols he didn’t understand and several words in a different language, he had never seen anything like it.

“Who the hell are you?” Sawyer had finally asked her.

Charlie was heading to visit Claire at the beach carrying a bag of thing he had traded with Sawyer for a few packs of cigarettes and a lighter he found a few weeks before. Sawyer was very happy to hand over everything Charlie needed as he had starred at the cigarettes like they weren’t really there.

He had noticed Sawyer running very low on smokes and knew that he would trade almost anything to avoid the painful withdrawals for a little longer. He could very easily relate to that though both suffering because of two very different addictions. He knew from experience that having an addiction for long enough and giving it up could feel like giving up your sanity. He knew that he felt that Heroin was the only thing that had kept him alive for so many years as bizarre as it sounded and he didn’t know if that was what it felt like for Sawyer but he had a suspicion it was. Even if it wasn’t his only addiction.

Charlie saw Claire sitting at the beach holding her one-month-old baby boy trying to calm him down. He had felt a pang of guilt when they came back and he found out that Claire had given birth. He promised he would be there for her and he wasn’t and he knew he had to make that up to her.

“Hey Charlie” She smiled at him before she looked back at her baby.

“Hey” He smiled “I got something for you” He said with smile.

“Charlie you didn’t have to get me anything” she told him but he handed her the bag he had been carrying, she couldn’t help but smile with anticipation as she unzipped the bag. “Charlie” She said her smile growing as she looked into the bag full of stuff for her baby. There was a teddy bear blanket, two bottles, baby clothes, some washable diapers and a baby name book.

“Where did you find all this?” She asked smiling at him.

“The Shop of Sawyer” He joked slightly. “He traded them to me for smokes, figured you need something more then a blanket for him, and you haven’t named him..” He began.

“Thankyou” She said with a grateful look. Charlie noted that it was look that some one would give if they weren’t used to having people do something for them, like she had never been given a present for no reason.

“Its really not much” He told her.

“It is to me” She smiled as she looked at the contents of the bag and picked up the name book while shifting the weight of her now sleeping baby to her other side. “Do you want to look through it with me?”

“Love to” Charlie smiled sitting down next to her.

Charlie had been filling up water bottles for Claire when he saw Kate heading in the direction of the jungle by herself; he quickly dropped the bottles and walked over to her. “Kate” He called as he caught up with her. “What are you doing?”

“It’s been a week” She told him as she turned to face him.

He’s Sawyer he can look after himself” Charlie explained. “I mean that letter was messed up, I doubt he willing to come back anytime soon” Charlie began.

Do you really think that means that he’s ok?” She asked her. “With everything out there?” She asked.

I’m coming with you then” Charlie said knowing he couldn’t learnt her go alone and there was no chance he could talk her out of going.
