Through the bar's smudged windowpanes, the sky is dark and dotted with stars. Infinity has never before seemed so utterly distant.

Ford stares at amberish liquid in thick glass. Arthur amiably jostles his shoulder; their mugs clank when he sets his down on the stained countertop.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

"My schedule is off."

"You never make schedules."

Leaning against his palm, Ford attempts a chuckle. A small, blinking light would be reassuring, but only dim fluorescence is at his disposal.

Ford looks away. Arthur frowns.

"Is there anything I can do...?"

Pause. Ford sips something entirely unlike Gargle Blaster and ignores the ring of residual condensation on the scuffed wood. Arthur is suddenly aware of the enormity of light-years.

"I want to go home."
