From the Journal of Major Margaret O. Houlihan.

"In some ways, Donald Penobscott was no Frank Burns."

I know I intrigued Pierce and Hunnicutt when I said that in the Swamp, looking for that picture of me in a bikini that Frank had.

And it's true, Donald wasn't.

Donald had the position as a Lieutenant Colonel and the physique of a god, and he knew how to charm, but now that I look back, Frank was by far the better of the two.

Many might laugh at that, to look at them physically. Ol' Ferret-face versus the Unibrow.

Donald had a fine physique, there's no question of that.

Frank was slender, lean and wiry with a surprising strength when he needed it. Usually running away from something, but not always. I'd feel bruised all over sometimes!

So, what did Frank have that Donald did not?

Primarily, he had passion.

Even when Donald and I were in the throes of love-making, I felt he wasn't entirely there with me, he was thinking about the next staff meeting or, now I know, the next dalliance at some USO club or Officers' Club.

Frank, when we were together, was with me completely. And when we made love, he was utterly devoted to my needs, what I wanted. That's passion and caring.

I knew we always had his wife Louise hanging over our heads, that he would never leave or divorce her. I loved Frank in a unique way, as I think he loved me, but I knew when it was time for the Korean conflict to end he'd be back at his practice in the States, his two-car garage, his wife and country club.

It was that that made me pursue Donald. I knew marriage and children were out of the question with Frank. Apparently with Donald too.

Now I'm too old for children. No steady guy in my life here at the 4077th. Only one guy here is worth the time of day, and he...Well, I won't go there. Things tend to be picked open and read in this camp.

Let's just say I find him fascinating and full of surprises. I get so I assume something about him, and he shatters that assumption immediately.

But I'm not saying, yet, who it is.

I just wanted to jot down for those snoops why Frank was better in some ways than Donald. And wait to see if those nosey nellies mention anything in this journal entry.
