Eloise

Hello, I am Eloise, Eloise Midgen. I know that you'll probably recognise my name, for the fact that I'm an acne-ridden nerd no doubt.

I'm a Ravenclaw, the smartest in my house. I should be the smartest student in the school as well, but oh no, bloody Hermione Granger of Gryffindor and Sarina Moon of Slytherin tie for that title.

I'm a pureblood as most would say. My Dad's a wizard- he was in Hemlock House in Durmstrang(1)-, and my Mum's a witch; she was in Ravenclaw too. I have one younger brother, and my parents seem to think that he needs coddling just because he's a squib. So, voila, I'm ignored, and if I'm not being ignored I'm being yelled at.

I remember that just before I began school I was warned to 'never get anything less than an 'O'' otherwise 'I'd be sorry'. I got a howler once for getting an 'E' on a test. I once went to my friend Colette Draconisson- she's a Slytherin, the prefect for the year above mine- and said that my parents' standards were too high. She then asked me if I'd ever been placed under the cruciatus curse for failing something and when I replied that I hadn't she told me I should stop wallowing in self pity and feel sorry for Draco Malfoy of all people. (I doubt that Malfoy has ever actually been placed under the cruciatus curse though).

But as I was saying, I have few friends, not-perfect-enough-grades and no life. Colette warned me to stop getting so depressed or I'd end up like Annie. I asked her who 'Annie' was and she replied that she was speaking about Sally-Anne Perks who had been found dead at her manor earlier that year after committing suicide by use of an unforgivable curse.

But I digress. I suppose I'd better go back to Hermione and Sarina. I think that everyone knows who Hermione is; golden trio, bushy hair, know-it-all, sound familiar? Yes? I thought so.

As for Sarina Moon, well she completed some of her NEWT exams before the end of second year. She's about as clever as Tom Marvolo Riddle was, and that's saying something. However she has no friends whatsoever (even I have some friends; Colette Draconisson (of Slytherin), Ginevra Weasley (of Gryffindor), Draca Malfoy (Draco's twin, also of Slytherin) and Wai-May Chang (Cho's sister, of Ravenclaw) to name a few.

Once again I digress. But Sarina is an interesting character. She hardly ever speaks, she looks like a vampire (she has black-purple hair, golden eyes and milk-white skin and, to be frank, it causes her to look like Dracula's daughter). In fact, for all we know she could be part Vampire; she definitely isn't fully human, I mean what human could fight off the Imperious curse in one go, what human could stand and barely flinch under the full power of the cruciatus curse?

But this isn't supposed to be about them is it? It's supposed to be about me. Me, Eloise, then one who's always overlooked for some reason or another. Me, Eloise, the forgotten genius, the one who's always overshadowed by a part human and mudblood. Me, nerdy, Slytherinish Eloise Midgen, the Slytherin in blue and bronze. Me… just me… just Eloise.

(1) There are four houses in Durmstrang, Hemlock, Lunaria, Pyrites and Slytherin. The four founders of Durmstrang were Hades Hemlock, Lexis Lunaria, Pandora Pyrites and Salazar Slytherin (yes the same one who also founded Hogwarts). I wanted to attend Durmstrang, but Mother wouldn't let me.
