This is my first Star Wars fic, so please, go easy. I love Star Wars to death and I don’t want to disappoint anyone with my story, though I’m sure I’ll do that somehow. But anyway, the summary.

Summary: Like a lot of Star Wars stories, this is another ‘Anakin doesn’t turn to the Dark Side and everything’s okay’ stories. Only in this one, Luke and Leia are Younglings at the Jedi Temple, Anakin and Obi-Wan are still defending the Republic from the threatening Imperials, and Padmé is still a Senator. On a ‘Jedi night’ with Anakin, things happen, leading to her second pregnancy. Which is where we are now.

Disclaimer: Sadly, I don’t own Star Wars, it all belongs to George Lucas. And that the Lord he came up with it. But I do own my original characters, who you will find out in the chapter(s) to come.

Chapter One: The Long Awaited Arrival

Anakin raced down the hallway, pushing people and droids out of his way. He saw Obi-Wan standing outside another branching off hallway with a sign above it that read: Maternity Ward, in big bold letters. Obi-Wan turned and saw Anakin running toward him. Anakin stopped in front of Obi-Wan, slightly panting for breath.

“I came as soon as I got your comm. .” Anakin paused, taking in a deep breath of air. He looked up at Obi-Wan and offered a smile. “How is she?”

Obi-Wan smiled back. “She’s doing fine. She’s in labor now.”

“Has she been asking for me?” Anakin asked, his breathing turning back to normal. Obi-Wan nodded.

“Yes.” he said, a lopsided smirk on his lips. “And not in a good way.” Obi-Wan added. Anakin sighed.

“She’s blaming me for making her like that, isn’t she?” Anakin asked. Obi-Wan nodded. “Why am I not surprised.” he muttered. Obi-Wan caught what he said and smiled. Anakin looked at him again, running a nervous hand through his hair. “How long has she been in labor?” Anakin asked, sitting down in a chair against the wall. Obi-Wan sat down before answering.

“Only about an hour and a half. I was the nearest to her so I brought her here. Padmé was the one who asked me to comm. you.” he said. Anakin nodded and sighed.

“I wish I could have been there, but Master Windu asked me to teach some of the Younglings, and of course, I‘m not going to object if it gives me the chance to see my children.” He paused. “Do you think I could go in there and see her, you know. Let her know I’m here?”

“Don’t ask me, Anakin. Ask the medical droid.” Obi-Wan said with a smile, motioning to the desk.

“Right.” Anakin stood up and walked over to a desk where a medical droid was sitting behind. Obi-Wan watched in amusement as Anakin talked to the droid. A smile found its way on his face. The only other time he had seen Anakin so nervous was when the twins were born and when he saw Padmé again after ten years.

Anakin nodded and gave a small smile to the medical droid, thanking it for allowing him to enter. He looked over at Obi-Wan, letting him know that he was going in the room. Obi-Wan smiled, letting Anakin know it was okay. Anakin smiled again and palmed the door open.

There she was, lying on the bed. She had an IV in her arm and a little piece of plastic attached to her finger, keeping track of her and the baby’s heartbeat. Anakin walked over to her, a huge grin on his face. Padmé looked at him and an angry glare played at her face.

“You did this to me!” she shouted, pointing her finger at Anakin. He planted a kiss on her forehead and shook his head.

“Nice to see you too, angel.” he replied jokingly. Padmé groaned in annoyance and crossed her arms over her chest. Anakin sighed and stood next to his wife. Sweat droplets were collecting on her hairline. Her breathing was normal and so was her heart rate. Anakin’s eyes fell upon her again. She was trying to ignore him, but found it really hard. Stealing glances at him from the corner of her eye. Anakin reached for her hand and she let him take it.

“Sorry about that outburst.” She muttered. Anakin chuckled slightly and smiled.

“At least it wasn’t anything like what you said when Luke and Leia were born.” At mentioning that, Padmé got a look of embarrassment on her face, her skin turning a slight pink. Anakin grinned at that. “What did you say again? ‘I hate you for what you’ve done to me and I never want to see your damn face again, you nerf-herdering Flyboy.’” Anakin smirked widely. “See how well that worked.” he teased jokingly. Padmé gave a small chuckle with a smile. Anakin let her hand drop, only for a moment as he pulled up a chair next to her bed. He grabbed her hand again gently. A sudden wave of pain washed through Padmé and she squeezed Anakin’s hand in her own.

“Contractions.” she said absentmindedly, her face twisting with the pain. Anakin nodded.

“Yeah, I know.” he said, slightly wincing as she gripped onto his hand harder.

“No, actually you don’t.” Padmé snapped. Force, she’s gonna crush the bones. After another thirty seconds or so, Padmé sighed.

She released Anakin’s hand. He clenched it and unclenched it over and over again, trying to regain some of the feeling. Why couldn’t she squeeze the mechanical one? “You know what I just realized?” Anakin suggested.

“What, Ani?” Padmé asked, placing her free hand on her stomach. A small smirk tugging on the corners of her lips. He leaned back further in his chair with a sigh.

“We haven’t picked out any baby names yet. Not any that we agree on at least.”

It struck Padmé hard. She had been so caught up in her work that she hadn’t even realized that. Not until Anakin pointed it out. She then wondered if Anakin had been thinking about it. She recalled thinking hours upon hours on the twins names and yet this baby, she didn’t even think one second about it. Sure it crossed her mind, but she never really thought about it. Padmé just kept doing her work. She suddenly felt like a bad mother. She bit her bottom lip nervously.

“Have you been thinking about names?” she asked, hoping that he hadn’t been. Anakin nodded.

“Yeah, actually I have.” he said. Padmé saw a smile on his face as his thumb began making little circles on her hand. “For a girl, I was thinking Anna or Kayleigh. And for a boy, Derek or Brannon.” Anakin answered. He told everyone he didn’t care which gender the baby was, but deep down inside he wanted a little girl. A daddy’s girl, who wasn’t Force sensitive.

Padmé smiled, not really liking the boy names he picked out, but loving the girl names. “I love the names Anna and Kayleigh. I haven’t thought of any names yet.” She sighed. She didn’t know why it upset her so much, but some tears stung her eyes. “And I feel so horrible.” she said, tilting her head downward as if ashamed.

Anakin leaned forward, gave her a cute smile and kissed her forehead. “Don’t worry, Padmé. You have no reason to feel horrible. It’s just that I’ve always liked the names and you were so determined to name the twins Luke and Leia. I love their names and all, but I’ve always had these in the back of my mind.” Anakin replied. He kissed her forehead again. His lips trailing down to her cheek and then catching her lips. Padmé smiled and broke the short kiss, before planting another. Anakin sat back in the chair again and saw the tears in Padmé’s eyes subside. He sighed in relief.

“Obi-Wan’s still out there, isn’t he?” Padmé asked, changing the subject. Anakin nodded.

“Yeah. He’s waiting patiently. Apparently, he thinks that Master Windu and Master Yoda are going to come once the baby is born, to see the midi-chloroian count in the baby’s blood.”

“You mean that none of you know whether or not this baby is Force sensitive or not?” Padmé asked, rather confused. He shook his head.

“I didn’t say that. Of course the baby is Force sensitive. It’s logical because a little bit of both of us went into creating the baby, so of course the baby will have some midi-chloroian in the its blood. We just not sure how many there are.” He said, stroking her hand lovingly. “That’s all.”

Padmé smiled, understanding now. “All right.” she said with a sigh. “I just wish I could have this baby and get it over with. Waiting can be such a pain.” Padmé reached for Anakin’s hand again, feeling another contraction coming on.

A few hours later…

“All right, Padmé. I can see the head. Just give me one more push when I tell you to. And make it really hard. All right?” the female doctor said. Padmé nodded and quickly rewrapped her fingers around Anakin’s hand, her breathing heavy and labored. Sweat was running down her pink face. “All right, Padmé. Now push.” the doctor instructed. Padmé did as she was told, pushing as hard as she could and squeezing Anakin’s hand as hard as she possibly could. Her face twisted into a look of pain, energy driven and determined. She let out a cry of pain before there was a brief moment of silence. It was quickly filled by the cries of a newborn. The female doctor looked up at the proud parents and smiled. “It’s a girl.” she said, whisking the baby away to do what was necessary.

Anakin kissed Padmé’s forehead repeatedly. Tears streamed down her face. “You did wonderful, angel. Absolutely wonderful.” he whispered to her. She let out a deep breath and leaned against Anakin. He wrapped his arms around her and a tear landed on Padmé’s mess of tangly and damp hair. It was his own. The doctor walked over towards them with a little bundle of light purple blankets in her arms. She was smiling widely as she handed the little newborn girl to her mother.

Both Padmé and Anakin gasped as their gaze fell upon the crying little infant. Padmé cradled the baby close to her and tears of joy rolled down her cheek. She glanced up at Anakin, who had a look of happiness, wonder and pure relief on his face. Her finger traced the outline of the little baby girl’s face and she smiled. “Isn’t she beautiful?” Padmé asked. Anakin nodded.

“Very beautiful.” He looked down at Padmé. “Just like her mother.” Padmé blushed and the two locked lips for a short moment. The proud parents were silent for a moment, just gazing at the beautiful being they both had created and Padmé had just brought into the galaxy.

“Anna.” Padmé said, breaking the silence.

“What?” Anakin asked, not sure he heard her right.

“I said Anna. She looks like an Anna.” Padmé said. Anakin nodded in concurrence. Both were silent for a moment until Padmé glanced up at Anakin, their eyes locking for a moment. Padmé held her for another fifteen minutes before turning to Anakin. “You want to hold her?” she asked. Anakin was surprised she was willing to hand her over. With the twins, she was afraid Anakin was going to drop them. He smiled widely and nodded.

“Of course.” He said. Slowly, Padmé passed the purple bundle of blankets to Anakin, who cradled the bundle perfectly. She smiled as she saw his face light up and his eyes twinkled with wonder she hadn’t seen in a long time. The little newborn’s cried turned into a soft whimper as Anakin slowly rocked back and forth, from the balls of his toes to his heel. “Hi Anna.” he whispered, taking a hold of the baby’s small hand, counting all the fingers on each hand. Padmé couldn’t help but smile. Anakin looked at Padmé and grinned.

“What about her middle name?” he asked. Padmé grinned.

“Shmi.” she said flat out. Anakin raised his eyebrow in surprise.

“Shmi? Like my mother’s name?” he questioned curiously. Padmé nodded.

“Exactly. Since the twins have our names as their middle names, why not have your mother’s name as hers. It fits.” Padmé said with a smile. She yawned widely and Anakin watched as her legs stretched out under the covers. She looked exhausted.

“Angel, why don’t you try and get some sleep. You look exhausted.” Anakin said quietly. She was about to object, when he placed a finger over her mouth and assured her he could take care of Anna. Padmé gave up surprisingly without a fight and within a minute, was out cold in a deep sleep.

Anakin glanced down at Anna and couldn’t help but not grin. Since she was in his arms, she hadn’t cried at all. Just a few whimpers here and there. Then, the amazing thing happened, Anna opened her eyes.

She was gazing up at Anakin with big, bright, blue eyes, like his. There was a faint touch of green to them, like his mother’s. But no brown whatsoever like Padmé’s . He smiled at the little infant. She just stared back up at Anakin. He almost forgot about Obi-Wan. With a shake of his head, Anakin slowly walked over to the door and palmed it open.

Obi-Wan stood up and a huge smile spread across his face when he saw Anakin holding a bundle of light purple blankets. He walked toward Anakin and sighed. “I’m taking it that the baby’s a girl?” Obi-Wan suggested. Anakin nodded and Obi-Wan could tell he was content. “Congratulations, Anakin.”

“Oh no,” Anakin shook his head. “Don’t be congratulating me, be congratulating Padmé. She was a real trooper.”

“Is she sleeping?” Obi-Wan asked. Well duh she was. She just brought a baby into the galaxy. Though he didn’t feel stupid for asking. Anakin nodded, slightly swaying back and forth as if to rock the infant.

“You wanna hold her?” Anakin asked. Obi-Wan smiled and nodded graciously. Anakin cautiously handed Anna over to Obi-Wan. He knew what he was doing, but Anakin still wanted to be careful.

Obi-Wan grinned as his eyes fell upon the little girl’s face. The thing that caught his attention the most was her big, bright, blue eyes. They were staring back at him. “She’s beautiful, Anakin.”

“She gets that from her mother.” Anakin replied with a grin.

“What’s her name?” Obi-Wan asked, looking up at Anakin. Anakin’s grinned grew wider and he crossed his arms over his chest.

“Anna.” Obi-Wan noticed the glint of excitement in his friend’s eyes. “Anna Shmi Skywalker.” He said so proudly. “It was Padmé’s idea.” Anakin added quickly. Obi-Wan smirked.

“It fits her well.” he replied. Anakin nodded. Small cried suddenly erupted from Anna. Obi-Wan exchanged a look with Anakin and he could have swore he saw a grin on his friend’s face. Carefully, Obi-Wan handed Anna over to Anakin. Like clockwork, as soon as she was in his arms, her crying ceased.

Anakin stopped staring at his precious daughter when a nurse came over to them, informing the pair that Anna needed to be taken to the nursery. Reluctantly, Anakin handed Anna over and sighed. Anakin walked over to a chair and took a seat, with a exhausted huff.

Obi-Wan could see that something was bothering Anakin. It was something minor but still, it was bothering him. He took the seat next to him with a sigh as well. They sat in silence for a long time before Obi-Wan spoke.

“Something’s bothering you Anakin.” he said, shifting his weight so he was facing the concerned father. Anakin didn’t respond. “Is it something about Anna?” Obi-Wan offered, taking a wild, yet somewhat logical guess. He nodded.

“Yeah.” Anakin was silent for another moment. He felt Obi-Wan’s eyes on him as well as his concern. With a sigh, he continued. “I’m worried that when Master Windu and Master Yoda come to see Anna, they might find that her midi-chloroian count may be high enough for her to become a Jedi. And I don’t want that. Not for Padmé’s sake, but mostly for Anna’s. I don’t want that way of life for her.” He finished. Obi-Wan nodded understandingly.

He could see why he would want that for at least one of his children. But, he WAS the Chosen One, so there was a risk that all of his children could be very Force sensitive. Somehow, Obi-Wan was doubting that Anna was going to become a Jedi. He didn’t want to tell Anakin, because he could be wrong. Very wrong.

“I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you, Anakin.” He muttered under his breath. Anakin sighed heavily and leaned back farther into the chair. He yawned widely and stretched out his limbs. “Tired?” Anakin nodded.

“Very. Haven’t have much sleep. I’ve been too anxious for the baby to come and now that she’s here, all I want to do besides hold her is sleep.” he replied. Obi-Wan nodded, understanding somewhat. “And plus since Master Windu asked me to instruct the Younglings, that tired me out too.”

“Yeah, those Younglings can wear you out, but they show so much dedication and promise. They are proud to become a Jedi.” Obi-Wan said. “Especially Luke and Leia. More so Luke. He wants to be like his father so much.” He added with a smile. Anakin grinned.

“They were so happy when I told them I had to leave to go to the hospital because the baby was coming. Leia started jumping up and down.” Anakin replied. “She wants to be a big sister so badly. I hate to break it to her that she won’t be seeing much of Anna with her training and all. That’s the one thing I regret about putting them on the path on their way to the Jedi way of life.” He fell silent.

“Do you sense the Dark Side getting stronger, Master?” Anakin questioned, breaking the silence.

“Everyday. Little by little, a threat grows in the back of my mind. I’m still worried about Supreme Chancellor Palpatine since he escaped our holding cells a little over a month ago.”

“That’s ex- Supreme Chancellor, mind you. I’ve been feeling it too. Not too strong, but still stronger than before.” Anakin said. Obi-Wan nodded and sighed. Anakin stood up and stretched his arms and legs. “I’m going to get something to eat from the cafeteria. Are you going to come?” Obi-Wan’s replied by standing up and the pair walked to the cafeteria to get some food.

Okay, how bad was it? It was horrible wasn’t it? I’m sorry for putting you through this. But just to let me now, please review because I really wanna know if it was bad or not.
