Disclaimer: I sadly do not own any of the characters in this story, they all belong to Tolkien but if I did Éowyn would never have fallen for Aragorn, and she would be With Legolas.
Mine
By: Katie Rausch
As much as I love him
as much as I care
let him always remain to me
let me claim him and his love
let him be mine
It was the eve before the great battle of Helms Deep, and he like countless other soldiers stood silently on the wall. Alone. He stood there quietly trying to imagine what it was like to be Aragorn, to have someone love him, to have someone who cared. He knew of course that he could have any Elf women in Mirkwood that he wanted. But they would never care for him in a way that he would feel content with. They would show him off like some sort prize, not caring that he was a person.
He stood on the wall until he could see every star in the sky. How he wished he had someone to share this view with, someone to share this moment with. He stopped his gazing and turned and started to his quarters, that is until he heard a sob. He followed the noise until he found sitting on the cold stone wall, Éowyn. Her golden hair fell into her face, and her dress was cover in the stains of her tears of sorrow. He had always admired Éowyn; she was the most beautiful human he had ever laid his eyes upon, even when she was crying. He remembered how he had watched her with wonder as she ran to her uncle's side, after Gandalf dismissed Saruman from her uncle's body.
"M'lady, why are you unhappy?" He asked knowing the answer, it was Aragorn. She was in love with Aragorn, and everyone knew that he was in love with only one, the lady Arwen, Daughter of Elrond Halfelven Lord of Rivendell. "My lord," she began that is until he cut in. "Please call me Legolas." He said "Legolas I do not wish to trouble you with my problems, for they are insignificant." He walked over and sat down beside her. "If they are insignificant, then why do you let them trouble you? Come; tell me the source of your unhappiness." he said to her gently. She looked at him for a moment before saying sadly "I'm alone in a world meant for men, a world where women are weak." She finished her sentence with a small smile. “I am sorry, my lord, I am being foolish.” I He looked at her for a long moment, her blue eyes seemed to rival his own. He reached out and pushed a strand of hair out of her face. “No," he said to her "You are not alone, you are not weak, and you are not foolish." She smiled grimly at his words.
They stood together in silence for a long time. "My lord, I think you are wrong for saying that I'm not alone. I am, for he does not love me..." "Who?" he asked knowing the answer. "Lord Aragorn" she let her voice trail off. "Must it be his love that will make you feel happy?" he asked daringly. "My lord?" she asked, puzzled by his words. He deeply regretted his foolishness, but he did not regret what he said, for his words were true, why was Aragorn the only one that could make her happy, why couldn't he also make her happy? He gathered up as much courage as he could muster, which was extremely difficult, he had fought countless numbers of Orcs and Urk-hai. But he couldn't face the woman he loved.
"Éowyn," He began "you are the most beautiful women in Middle-Earth, and It pains me to see that the only man that could ever make you happy is Lord Aragorn, why not someone else?" He said in an almost pleading voice. "Éowyn, I care for you. I always have since the day that I laid my eyes on you." He finished. She looked once more at his light eyes, and she got lost in their gaze. She leaned in toward him, knowing that once she broke the kiss with him, she may no longer feel the same about him. For the first time she looked at him not as Aragorn’s side kick but as the prince that he was.
As their lips touched, her eyes fell closed, and she felt his arms wrap around her. She was in a state of bliss that she never imagined, his lips were soft and warm, and his arms were strong and protective. She pulled away from him shortly. "Éowyn, Is something wrong?" Legolas asked as she pulled away. She looked down at the stone, embarrassed at what she had done. "I shouldn't have done that." She whispered quietly, so quietly that he thought that she was talking to herself, as humans often do. "And why should you not have?" he asked her. She continued to stare at the ground before saying "Legolas, you know as well as I do that if I ever kiss you again, we will never want anyone else aside from each other." Éowyn replied. "I have wanted none else since I've looked at you! Éowyn, I love you." These words hung in between the two for a little while before he finished. "And no one else will make me feel the way you do!" He said unhappily. "You love me?" she asked in an odd sort of innocent, venerable voice that made him want to put his arms around her.
"I do." He said.
He waited for her to say something, anything. But no reply came. "Lady Éowyn, could you not return my love?" He asked her. "I'm sorry Legolas, but I do not think I can." She said sadly. "He will never love you Éowyn, I don't see why you hold your heart only for him. He will never abandon Lady Arwen, Never." he said to her somewhat coldly. "Legolas, just as you love me, I love him." She said looking out into the sky; which was slowly fading from dark blue to a warm orange color.
He looked at her one last time before saying. "Éowyn, tonight the enemy will approach, and before I go off to battle I want to know how you feel about me. I do not wish to die without knowing your true feelings. Tell me do you feel nothing for me at all?" he said slowly. She got up off the wall and stood in front of him. "I do love you Legolas, but I...I...” She was lost for words. “You feel as though you are betraying Aragorn?" he suggested. She nodded." I feel as though I owe him a debt for something." she said sadly. He picked her chin up with his hand and looked into her eyes "You owe him nothing. Éowyn you deserve better." He said before kissing her again, this time, she did not end the kiss.
They stood together for a moment before Gimli came running down the stone steps yelling "Elf! Elf! Aragorn wants yo-" he stopped for he had just run in on the pair "Gimli!" Legolas and Éowyn cried together. "Did I...uh...interrupt something?" he asked grinning at Legolas. It was Éowyn who replied "Yes, Master Dwarf, as a matter of fact you did, now you can got and tell lord Aragorn that Legolas Is busy." She smiled at the dwarf and turned back to Legolas and kissed him, he wrapped his arms back around her and ignored Gimli.
Gimli turned around and headed back to the castle shaking his head in wonder.
The End
A/N:
Thanks for all of the reviews! I wrote this story so long ago that I had almost forgotten that it had existed!
I have corrected most of my mistakes. But I really do not care if I accidentally put a ‘comma’ instead of a ‘period’; writing is my hobby, not my career.
