Truth

He doesn't remember how he got here, standing in front of those graves. Memories dancing in his mind: quick images of red; everlasting remnants' shadows.

He can almost feel like he's back in time, like he's that kid again. And here his father is, standing, with a baseball glove in his hand. And he watches, fascinated, as the night closes in around him.

He doesn't remember how he got here. He can't recall the conscious decisions made to reach this point, the roads his feet have followed since he left the jail. Nor does he remember why he came here. No safety, no guarantees. No assurances that the things you know will remain as you know them.

A flash of something tasting like old memory: His father, standing in the living room, angry. Flashes of green glass, and pain waving from his hand. He can remember the blood appearing faster and faster as if it were happening again. Blood dropping heavily onto the hard floor. White marble covered in red and tears falling from his eyes as he looks at that man he thought he knew.

He blinks and finds himself back in the graveyard. Standing in the rain, in front of those graves he knows so well. He swallows hard, raindrops washing away his tears.

Truth takes time. Truth hurts.

He doesn't remember how he got here. But at this moment, here is the only place to be.
