Ding dong!
Sora, hearing his doorbell, lifted his head up from his Chemistry textbook that he’d had his head stuck in all night. He glanced at the old cheesy wooden clock that hung on his kitchen wall to check the time, which was a quarter to eight. He smiled and got up, stretching, and then called upstairs,
“I’ll get it! No need to trouble yourself or anything!” He jokingly shouted towards his mom, who was in the shower and obviously couldn’t do anything.
“Ah ha, Sora! You’re sooo funny!” His mother sarcastically called back loudly so that her son could hear her over the water. Sora chuckled and grinned.
The doorbell rang again, echoing throughout the kitchen. He shook his head and jogged towards the front door, ready to tease whoever was there, knowing it was someone he knew. Opening it, he spoke to the unseen visitor.
“Boy…you’re impatient, eh?”
A 14 year red head stood angrily in the doorway, and raised an eyebrow at her friend.
“Well, considering the fact you left me standing out here--in the pouring rain might I add-I have every right to be ticked!”
She put her free hand on her hip while the other hand was clutching a seemingly heavy purple suitcase which was stuffed with the girl’s “sleepover essentials”.
Sora grinned; his warm, welcoming smile appearing on his face.
“What the heck did you pack in that thing? The whole mall?” He teased his female pal, and stepped aside so she could come in from the chilly porch.
Kairi plopped her suitcase down by the several pairs of shoes that were lined against the wall. She sighed and pushed an auburn strand of hair out of the way of her purplish-blue eyes before answering.
“Uh! No! You know me, I loathe shopping! I don’t even go with Selphie for a simple hair band!” She snapped back playfully.
He laughed.
“Yeah yeah, I know, I know!” He shook his hand as if to dismiss the playful argument between the two. Looking at her again, he asked, “So, do you know if Riku’s joining us, or not?”
She shrugged.
“Dunno, call him, but I doubt it since he missed school today. He might be sick,” She replied, and suggested.
The brunette chuckled as if thinking she was crazy.
“Riiiight, Riku ain’t sick, he just played hookey!” He joked, and Kairi pushed him playfully.
“You jerk! Just shut up and call your best friend to check up!” She scolded him, and pushed him towards the phone.
“Fine…whatever, but I swear he’s just playing hookey!” Sora insisted, and shaking his head, picked up the phone and began dialing.
The phone rang several times before a stuffed up voice answered,
“Hello…?”
Sora raised an eyebrow. He vaguely recognized the voice.
“Riku, dude, is that you?” He questioned, surprised to here his friend sounding so sick.
“Yep…hey Sora,” The silver haired teen answered, sounding like he had a really, really bad cold.
“You okay?” Sora asked, slightly concerned.
“Oh yeah….I’m fine. I just have a fever, a stuffed up nose, body aches, and a cough, but no, I’m okay,” Riku answered sarcastically.
The spiky haired teenager, oblivious to his friend’s sarcasm, stupidly retorted,
“Dude! That’s not okay!”
Riku groaned.
“Oh you idiot! It was sarcasm! Have you completely lost your ability to recognize it!”
Sora chuckled.
“Actually, um, I’m not sure I ever had it…” He said, trailing off.
Riku groaned again.
“Anyways, to spare you further confusion, I just wanna say I won’t be able to come to Movie Night, so tell Kai I’m sorry,” Riku told his friend.
Sora nodded.
“Sure…and…Riku?”
“Yeah?”
“You have to complete two pages of math, one page of history, and one page of chemistry by Monday!” Sora chirped, and Riku groaned.
“Nooo….” The older teen complained, and Sora added naively,
“Oh yeah, and…feel better!” He smiled over the phone.
“Shut up you jerk,” Riku replied in a stuffed up monotone voice, and hung up.
Sora laughed as he hung up the phone as well. He turned towards Kairi.
“Well…?” Kairi asked, waiting for an answer, arms crossed.
Sora took a deep breath, and let the air out before answering.
“He…won’t be joining us tonight. Told me to tell you he’s sorry,” He told his other friend.
Kairi looked down.
“Aw…that’s too bad, I hope he feels better,” She smiled slightly and said.
“Hey…what makes ya think he was sick? He was just playin’ hookey, like I said before!”
“Sora!” Kairi, frustrated, groaned and pushed him down on his butt.
“Ha ha, just kidding!” Sora looked up innocently and put his hands out while shrugging.
Kairi rolled her eyes and murmured,
“This is gonna be one loooong night…”

“Okay…how many elements on the Periodic Table have an atomic number of eight?” Sora asked, reading a comprehension question out of his textbook. He looked towards Kairi, waiting for an answer.
Kairi, who was drinking a glass of soda, slurped a sip out of her straw loudly, and raised an eyebrow while looking at him.
“How the heck should I know?” She responded, shrugging.
Sora rolled his eyes.
“Jeez Kai, you’re worse than me!” He put the book down, and got up close to her face. “Kairi! We have a test on this stuff on Monday!”
Kairi groaned.
“Uh! Sora, since when do you care about grades, academics, and school anyway!” She asked, leaning back in her chair and crossing her arms.
Sora sat back down, and put his hand under his chin, pushing his cheek upward. He shrugged, bored.
“I dunno…I guess I started caring when my mom said if I didn’t bring my D’s up to B’s I’d be grounded for a month,” He replied, still really not caring.
“I knew you’d never have the motivation to do better in school on your own! You had to make a deal…that is soooo you, Sora,” Kairi criticized her best friend with a hint of playfulness.
Sora shrugged again.
“Like I care!” He slouched down in his seat.
“Oh, you better!”
Sora and Kairi looked to their sides, and saw Sora’s mom standing in a white bathrobe dripping wet, with her hands on her hips and a blonde eyebrow raised.
“You better care about those grades young man! Cause if you don’t bring those D’s and F’s up….A) You’ll fail the 8th grade and B)…” She walked up to her son, and got really close to his face…staring sternly into his blue eyes. “And B)…you will answer to me,” She whispered through clenched teeth.
Sora, who had inched back in absolute terror, gulped and smiled innocently while chuckling nervously. He rubbed the back of his head and nodded hastily, then, he turned around in his chair and stuck his head back into his Chemistry book.
Sora’s mother stood up. She put her hands on her hips triumphantly.
“There, now that’s a good boy!” She teasingly praised her son, and patted him on the head. He simply glared.
Kairi giggled and Sora’s mom looked and winked.
“Being a mom is sooo fun, you get to boss people around all the time!” She walked to the fridge and pulled out a water bottle. She took a quick gulp and then looked at Kairi again. “Cause on one ever wants to fight with an angry woman on PMS!” She added, and Kairi laughed aloud.
Sora plopped his head down and groaned in absolute embarrassment.
“Mom…” He muttered and then glared at her again. “You are sooo embarrassing!”
The blonde woman chuckled and shook her head.
“My dear, you don’t know how “embarrassing” I can get!” She replied, and her son’s eyes widened in fear that she could get worse.
Kairi shook her head at her friend’s humiliation.
“Anyway…hi Mrs. Adams,” The red head waved casually and smiled while greeting the adult.
“Hello my dear,” Mrs. Adams replied, and then added, “Where’s Riku? Doesn’t he usually join you on Friday nights?”
Sora nodded, glad to be off the topic of embarrassment and motherhood.
“Yeah, he’s…” Sora rolled his eyes, finishing his sentence. “Quote on quote: ‘Sick’.”
Sora’s mom looked down slightly, and pouted playfully.
“Aww…too bad,” Then she looked at her son. “Well, honey, hate to tell you this but I have to go and check out some things at the office. So…it looks like you two’ll be home alone,” She explained and took another drink of her water.
Sora smiled slyly and looked outside at the pouring rain.
“It’s fine with me…but I don’t know about Kairi…” He said, and glanced at the auburn haired teen. She looked at him with a “What the heck are you saying?” look on her face.
“Huh? Why wouldn’t it be fine with me?” She questioned, raising an eyebrow.
Sora crossed his arms and laid back.
“Well…I dunno, maybe cause we’d be all alone with no form of protection whatsoever on a stormy night where any crazy maniac could come out and kill us…but other than that, I got nothin’.”
Kairi sat there wide eyed.
“I-I’m not scared...of that. That’s the most retarded thing I’ve ever heard!” She snapped, looking away and crossing her arms, but a hint of anxiousness was in her voice.
Mrs. Adams rolled her eyes, and Sora smirked.
“Really? I thought you would, especially since they found out about that guy who’d been killing everyone…he was some crazed murder who escaped from jail…he last struck in a neighborhood not to far from here, I heard,” Sora playfully told a story while smirking.
“It’s…i-it’s still stupid…” Kairi stammered, and stuck her nose up.
Thunder suddenly boomed loudly outside, scaring the poor girl out of her wits.
“AHHH!” Kairi shrieked and jumped up from her chair, soon falling to the ground in fright.
“AHAHAHA!” Sora fell down from his chair laughing uncontrollably and onto the ground in humor.
Kairi glared as Sora pointed and laughed.
“You…were…so…totally…freaked!” He exclaimed through bursts of laughter.
Kairi huffed and blew a strand of hair away from her face.
“You jerk!” She retorted and stuck her tongue out.
Mrs. Adams stood above the two teenagers on the floor still with her water in hand. Her face held a look that said, “You two are absolutely crazy and stupid”. She sighed heavily and turned on her heel.
“Well…hate to miss all this wonderful comedy and all, but I’ve gotta go get ready…” She said, and made her exit on stage left.

“Gin Rummy!” Sora triumphantly announced his victory and placed his final card on the deck.
It was a quarter to 9 and the two teens got bored with homework (Heck, who wouldn’t?), so they decided to have a nice, non competitive game of 500 Rummy.
“OH YOU JERK!” Kairi stood up angrily and stomped her foot. “I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WON! I WAS ONLY FIVE POINTS BEHIND YOU!” She shouted, frustrated.
Sora laughed aloud and pointed.
“You are such a sore loser!” He then started picking up the cards casually, and Kairi stood tapping her foot angrily, fuming still. He looked up, and grinned slyly. “But…I still won!” He added, to salt the wound.
Kairi opened her mouth and exclaimed,
“Uh! Shut up!” Then, whacking him on the head, she grinned. “There…” She said, and crossed arms. “That helped me feel better!”
Sora rubbed the aching bump on his temple.
“Dang girl…you hit hard!” He pointed out and raised an eyebrow.
Kairi raised her hand in a fist.
“I can hit harder…” She threatened playfully.
Sora put his hands up quickly in defense.
“Oh no! No need to resort to violence! I’m just picking up the cards!” He said innocently and put the 52 cards back into the packet. He stood up next to Kairi and brushed his pants off.
“There.” He looked at her and simply smiled.
The two suddenly heard footsteps coming down the steps and they looked. Mrs. Adams was busily putting her hair in a ponytail and running down the steps at the same time.
“Hi you two! Gotta go to the office and meet the other executives, I’m already late!” She exclaimed and grabbed her large purse.
Sora rolled his eyes.
“On a Friday night..?” He moaned, and then groaned as his mother nodded.
Opening the door, she shifted her weight from one side and pulled her purse up onto her shoulder. Grabbing an umbrella, she opened the door quickly and blew a kiss to her son.
“Love you,” She said to her child and smiled at Kairi. “Be back….” She paused, looking for the right words. “Eventually.”
Then she raised an eyebrow at the two teenagers.
“No fooling around you two!” She warned and Sora and Kairi both made a sick face.
“Ewww! Mom, no way!” Sora replied shaking his hands quickly.
Mrs. Adams laughed.
“I know…but I’m just sayin’!” She started, but her son walked up and practically pushed her out the door.
“Well mom, you don’t need to say anything! You can totally trust Kairi and me!” He assured his mother, and grabbed the doorknob as soon as she was outside. Mrs. Adams smiled at her child.
“I love you honey,” She said, and kissed him on the cheek.
Sora blushed.
“Aww…c’mon mom, no need to get all luvey-dubby on me…” He smiled and replied.
She sighed.
“You’re right, I suppose. Well, if you need my, or anyone else, you know where the numbers are. I’ve gotta go!” She made on final note and started walking off to the driveway. Opening an umbrella, she got into her car and drove off soon after.
Sora shut the door and then looked back at Kairi. He smoothly waltzed over to her, his hands in his pockets.
“Well my dear…” He started.
Kairi raised an eyebrow.
“What are you doing?” She asked, oblivious to any of his plans.
The brunette slowly moved closer to Kairi, pushing her backwards, backwards, until…
“Uh, Sora, you can’t move anymore, we’re against the wall,” Kairi pointed out, looking behind her.
Her friend grabbed her waist suddenly, and a blush sprung to Kairi’s face.
“Wh-wha…Sora?” She stammered.
“Maybe my mom shoulda stayed…eh?” He teased, leaning closer and closer, nose to nose, his azure orbs gazing into her lavender ones.
Kairi suddenly caught on, and for some reason, she wasn’t minding what was happening…she closed her eyes, waiting…
“AHAHA!” She heard laughter.
Her eyes popped open and she realized Sora had moved father back now and was pointing and laughing at her like crazy.
“You…shoulda…seen you face! AHAHA!” He laughed harder. “You were all puckered up!” He added.
Kairi turned cherry red.
“YOU JERK! YOU TRICKED ME! I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT YOU WERE GONNA—”
BBBZT!
“AHHH!”
A shriek rang throughout the house as a zap of lightening lit up the outside and thunder boomed. Something outside of the house dropped, and a bang was heard as it collided with the ground. The kitchen lights went out, and Sora and Kairi were left in darkness. Silence was inevitable for a few moments.
“Sora…” A small feminine voice squeaked in the pitch blackness.
“Yeah…?” The spiky brunette replied timidly, and then gulped.
“Where was that crazy killer last seen again?”
