Expect the Unexpected

2 weeks later

Finally the time has arrived for Yukio to be brought home and Mokuba couldn't have been happier. He had made preparations for the new arrival most of the morning; including calling up the few friends that Seto had. But for the now the younger Kaiba was also trying to fix up the living room before the guests arrived. It was a rare occasion for people to even stop by the mansion; but that changed once Yami moved in and he and Seto adopted Kamilah. And now with Yukio the amount of visitors was sure to increase by a few people.

Mokuba made sure the fire was in working order, since last time Seto had used it, it had sparked and died. It seemed to work fine, so Mokuba stood on tiptoe to place the remote on the mantle. He took one last look around nodding at the perfection. Kamilah's toys were in their own corner and Yukio's bassinet was by the couch where Yami or Seto could reach him in case something happened. Several chairs had been drawn up close to the couch so the new baby could be passed around, though Mokuba wasn't sure if Seto was going to be overprotective or not.

"Is everything ready Master Mokuba?" Jeeves asked, looking at Mokuba as he finally got the final touches in the living room.

"Yeah, finally. I didn't think it would take this long to do it. But we had two weeks to prepare for the party and all. I invited everyone, but Yuugi can't come. Mai is too close to her delivery date, and Shizuka is hiding out. But Jou, Ryou, Bakura and Anzu will be here. Along with Honda and Otogi with their little boy." Mokuba replied.

Jeeves smiled then walked into the kitchen to get the drinks and cake for the party. Part of him wondered why Yuugi was gone, but then he figured that Ryou would mention it when he arrived. Maybe Yuugi had the baby? He didn't know, but that would be a good thing if he did.

"That is good, Master Mokuba. But is there a reason why he cannot attend this party?" Jeeves finally asked, coming back out with the refreshments and plates. He then set them all up neatly, placing a special spot for Yami.

"Ryou told me that Yuugi is in the hospital now. Their son was born at 11 last night. His name is Haru Moutou." Mokuba smiled for a moment, looking at Jeeves.

"Ah, very good. I shall send him my congratulations as soon as I can." Jeeves replied before hearing a car pull up. This was it; he was going to see Yukio for the first time outside of the hospital. It was exciting for the elderly butler actually.

Seto had arrived at the mansion with Yami a little later than they would have liked, but there were a few technical difficulties along the way. Or rather, car difficulties. The big one was that the limo wouldn't start, and then Yami protested the fact he had to sit in back with Yukio. However all of those factors weren't anything major. The important thing was that everyone was home now.

"Take it easy… watch your step…" Seto started, making sure Yami didn't trip over anything. He was just being very cautious, considering the fact that he was still trying to make up for what he did. And that he didn't want his son to be injured either.

"I know what I'm doing…" Yami spoke softly, looking down at Yukio who seemed to be taking this all in stride. Of course the newborn was still half asleep as well, so he didn't mind the walk up the sidewalk.

Seto nodded, managing a smile once he got to the door. He stood by the door and opened it once Yami got to the porch. He was half expecting Mokuba to run out and knock them over, or for Jou and the others to run out with a million questions. But to his relief, no one else was here yet. Or so he thought.

"Nii-sama! You're back, just lead Yami to the couch. I've got a surprise for the both of you!" Mokuba chirped, taking Seto's hand as he led both him and Yami to the living room.

"What is it Mokuba? We have to put Yukio to bed and Yami has to rest." Seto asked, looking at his brother suspiciously as he and Yami entered the room. But to his surprise, he saw presents and enough food to make Jou happy for life.

Yami looked curious as well, raising an eyebrow as he walked into the living room. It wasn't like this yesterday, since he and Seto went to get Yukio earlier that morning. It just took a long time to get him back here because of the paper work and everything else that had to be filled out.

"I know, Nii-sama. But Yami had plenty of time to rest! This is important; it's a welcome home party for Yukio. Even Kami-chan helped!" Mokuba replied, holding Kamilah in his arms before he put her down on the floor.

"Kami help!" Kamilah smiled before walking up to Yami and Seto, looking up at her baby brother. She liked to try and help the best she could anyway.

Yami smiled, moving to sit on the couch. He was surprised by everything here really, even by the show of presents and the decorations Mokuba threw together while they were gone for only about 3 hours total. The ex spirit looked at Jeeves who just put a finger to his lips, causing Yami to just nod and smile a little broader.

"You did a great job. I'm glad that he's getting this kind of reception now." Yami spoke softly, holding Yukio close to him. Now his fears were alleviated, at least for how they would react to the new arrival.

"Thank you, Yami nii-sama." Mokuba replied, looking at Yami for a moment before skittering off to get the rest of the refreshments. He personally couldn't wait until the others showed up, just so everyone could finally see Yukio. At least those that didn't get a chance to meet him yet.

Jou, Anzu, Ryou and Bakura were the first to arrive at the Kaiba Mansion. They arrived not too long after Yami and Seto came home with Yukio. Of course Mokuba and Jeeves were staked out by the food, knowing that Honda and Otogi were coming as well. But for now the three boys were talking about various things.

"Well I must admit Pharaoh, he is cute. Does he have any shadow powers or did he get all of his traits from Kaiba?" Bakura asked in all seriousness. He knew that it was a distinct possibility for him to inherit a few things from Yami.

"It's too soon to tell, Bakura. But I wouldn't doubt it. If odd things start happening, or if I see the eye of Horus on his forehead, then yeah… I'd say he has shadow powers. But until that happens, he's still a normal baby." Yami replied, holding Yukio in his arms.

"Can I hold him?" Anzu asked, walking up to Yami. A smile on her face, finally accepting the fact that he and Seto were together. Even though it had taken quite awhile for that to happen.

Seto stood next to Yami as he looked at everyone in their respective chairs. He was now being very protective over his son and of course Yami. But right now he was a little leery over Anzu holding their newborn son. But he looked at his lover who didn't seem to object to the whole thing.

"Just be careful of the soft spot on his head. And make sure to support his head." Seto spoke, watching Anzu take Yukio from Yami's arms carefully.

"I think I know what I'm doing." Anzu spoke, moving to sit back in her chair. She smiled at Yukio as he moved his tiny hand slowly. He was so small, so innocent. And he looked almost exactly like Yami too. The same eyes, but his hair wasn't tri-colored.

Yukio blinked, opening his eyes for a moment as he looked up at Anzu for the first time. He let out a soft whimper, but only because he was with someone he didn't recognize right off. But he didn't fidget much, which was good. It showed some promise as to his character later on as he got older.

"Hey… aren't you a cutie?" Anzu cooed, touching Yukio's nose gently. Of course she was well aware of the hawk like gaze that both Seto and Yami were giving her. She wouldn't dare hurt him.

"So… how was it? Yuugi told me a little bit about it when I talked to him this morning. But I want to hear it from you." Jou asked, looking at the ex-spirit. He was curious; perhaps everyone's experiences were different.

Yami looked at Jou, hiding a frown this time. He did manage to make it in time to console Yuugi during the final stages of labor, since he knew how bad it hurt. But Yuugi seemed to have had an easier time than he did. He shook his head for a moment a he put a box on his lap.

"I'm sure he told you that it hurts. At least the contractions do. Just think about slamming your hand into a car door, only ten times worse." Yami replied, looking around at everyone. He personally didn't want to be reminded of the pain, but it was worth it in the end.

"Yeah, but he told me that you had it worse. And that you warned him that it would be bad." Jou replied, managing a smile this time. He did feel sorry for his friend though.

Yami nodded, managing a smile. But he too felt sorry for his Aibou; however he was glad that he pulled through it without any complications. He never fully understood why he had complications and Yuugi didn't.

"But I had complications, and the labor was bad too. I'm glad that Yuugi didn't have it that bad. He'll be able to go home tomorrow." Yami replied, smiling toward Ryou before turning back to Jou.

"And so will our son. You're more than welcome to see him at any time, well when you have free time." Ryou replied, smiling back for a moment. He knew that Seto might not allow him to, but he figured it couldn't hurt.

Anzu smiled for a moment before handing Yukio to Otogi next. The black haired teen smiled as he looked at him, watching as the 3 week old tried to reach for his die earring. Otogi just shrugged, knowing that babies did that. Even is and Honda's son did it when he was that age.

"Yukio, no. That's not a toy." Seto started, moving to put his tiny hand down. He just got a whimper of protest as Yukio grabbed onto a piece of Otogi's hair.

"It's alright, Seto. Babies do this, but you should know that because of raising Kamilah. They love to hold onto things and put things into their mouths. He's not hurting anything. Daisuke did it too." Otogi smiled, holding Yukio carefully as the infant held onto his hair.

Honda smiled, watching Otogi and Yukio. He wanted to hold the newborn as well, but he would get his chance. He didn't want to incur the wrath of Seto or Yami. The brunette caught the look on Seto's face; he was still watching their son like a hawk. Yami was too, but he seemed more tired than anything at the moment.

"Are you sure you're up to this? You've been up all night, Yami." Seto asked, noticing his lover nod off. He just grinned and put his hand on the other's shoulder.

"I didn't do it! Yukio made me!" Yami spoke, lifting his head up sharply before a light blush crept across his cheeks.

Seto chuckled softly before helping Yami to his feet. He put his arm around the others waist gently before looking over his shoulder to the others. He'd be back to get Yukio, but for now he'd leave him with the group.

"Make sure you take care of Yukio. I'll be back down later to bring him upstairs. Yami's just exhausted; he's been up all night because of Yuugi and Haru." Seto spoke softly before helping the smaller up the stairs.

Yami collapsed against the bed once Seto led him to their bed. He really was more exhausted than he thought. He just didn't expect to be up since 11 the night before, and he stayed at the hospital all night. Just to make sure that Yuugi was alright and that nothing went wrong with him or Haru.

"Are you sure you're alright? I don't like it when you stay up all night." Seto started, watching Yami as he moved to his side. He hated getting the cold shoulder like this, but in a way he did deserve it. Especially after what he did to him.

"Hmm… I've told you that as well. I don't like it when you stay gone for weeks at a time… Ra knows what you could be doing. Oh wait, I already know. Seto… I'm tired alright? Yuugi had a long labor, and I wanted to make sure that he and Haru are alright… that's why I was out all night." Yami replied, looking at Seto for a moment out of the corner of his eye.

"I know… but can't you at least try to forget about that? Or at least talk to me… I've given you two weeks with no definitive answer. I just wanted to know if you still loved me… or if you were ending it." Seto sighed, looking at Yami for a moment as his shorter lover lay on the bed.

"I am not ending it Seto alright? Give me a few months to think about it… but I still have your ring. It's just in my lock box. Now please, can I go to sleep?" Yami asked, pulling the covers over his shoulder.

"Of course… I'll go make sure the puppy isn't trying to steal our son." Seto smirked before walking back downstairs. He honestly didn't think that Yami would still be taking it this hard. Then again, he partly expected it.

Jou and the others were still passing around Yukio before giving up after the infant fell asleep in Ryou's arms. He had been there for the last 10 minutes now, and the white haired teen was hesitant to move him. But soon a light smile of relief crossed his lips when he saw Seto come down the stairs.

"Are we glad to see you, Kaiba. Your son fell asleep in Ryou's arms and he can't move him." Otogi spoke up, smiling for a moment at the newborn. Honda was already thinking about something else, but no one really understood the look on his face except Seto and Otogi.

"Come on little one… time to go to bed. We can see them tomorrow alright? You need sleep." Seto spoke softly, moving to pick Yukio up carefully. Thankfully his son didn't make a peep; instead he was out like a light.

"We'll take that as our cue to exit. Take care, Kaiba. And tell Yami that we hope he feels better." Bakura spoke, standing up from the couch as he moved the others toward the door. He had used 'we' so he didn't have to show that he actually had a heart. But with how he and Anzu were, it was evident.

"I'll tell him, Bakura. Thank you all for stopping by." Seto replied, watching as the group left. A smile crossed his lips as he opened the door for them, then he shut the door and turned back to head upstairs.

All in all Seto though this day turned out pretty well. He and Yami didn't fight, and the others actually behaved. He just looked down at Yukio who yawned for a moment before closing up his tiny fists again. Seto smiled at his son, amazed that he could sleep through all of this. He was so innocent; he didn't have a clue as to what was going on around him. The young CEO was just amused by all of this really.

"You don't know what is going on do you? All you know is that you're with the people you love. And that's all you're happy with, I don't blame you though. I wish I was a baby again… you don't even have to worry about all the burdens I'm facing with your mother..." Seto sighed, it sounded weird calling Yami that. But he shrugged that thought aside.

Yukio just shifted, curling his hand around Seto's finger. He cooed softly as he tried to get some sleep. Luckily he was a heavy sleeper, but that didn't mean he wouldn't cry in the middle of the night like most babies did. However Seto was right, the 3 week old didn't have a care in the world. He just knew he was safe and sound in his father's arms, and then soon after he was safe in his crib.

The next few weeks were probably going to be tough on both involved, but right now wasn't the time to worry about those matters. Right now Seto still had to work on gaining Yami's trust back, and pray that he wasn't still mad at him. But deep inside the CEO knew it was going to take forever to do that. However time heals old wounds, but how much time it would take was left to be determined. Weeks, months, years? No one knew for sure until it actually happened.

These two verses from "Welcome to My Life" seem to fit Yami right now I think. But that's just me.

No one ever lied straight to your face
And no one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I'm happy but I'm not gonna be okay
Everybody always gave you what you wanted
You never had to work it was always there
You don't know what it's like, what it's like

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like (what it's like)
