Chapter 1: Broken Departures
A pair of amethysts blinked lazily as their owner stared up into a pair of deep crimson ones.
Yugi smiled, sitting up and grasping the cool drink Yami had offered him, sipping it moderately as his feelings of thirst subsided. His Yami smiled in response as he sat next to his hikari sipping the drink in his own hand and sighing appreciatively.
The sun beamed high over head, sending its rays down upon them; delicately kiss their bare skin, which the teens greatly enjoyed, though they weren't the only one appreciating the glorious shows of affection from the sun.
Ryou cuddled up to his yami in bliss as Bakura stroked the younger ones snowy hair lovingly, they both sat on a nearby bench snuggled up close, refusing to leave each other’s side.
Jou and Seto sat under the shade of a nearby tree, small spots of light decorating their otherwise shadowed features. Seto was leaning against the tree trunk, an arm securely wrapped around around his "puppy's" waist as the other teen leaned against him, sighing in bliss.
Honda and Anzu were nearby too, but the rest of them were too preoccupied to notice the two skimming stones in the pond that Yugi and his yami lay by, though Anzu had her attention drawn to the two, particularly Yami.
Everyone knew of the crush she had on him since the day they met, but they also knew that Yami and Yugi had feelings for each other too that neither of them were confident enough to admit. This small problem for the two turned out to be a dream come true for Anzu. It was time to set her plan in motion.
She strided over to the two casually and called Yugi over to talk, away from the group.
The two walked away from them and to the park entrance, so they wouldn't be seen and heard by the others.
"Listen Yugi, I know that you like Yami but I want you stay away from him," she told him coldly as he stared back, amethyst eyes wide in disbelief.
"What? Why should I?"
"Yugi, I don't want to see you get hurt when you tell him how you feel." She told him trying to sound somewhat understanding.
"What makes you sure he'll reject me?" Yugi asked trying to sound confident, though the hurt and heartbreak could be heard within his voice.
"Yami likes me Yugi, we're meant for each other, we always have been. He has me Yugi and he wouldn't break off what we have for anything Yugi, anything, I'm sorry," she added at the end, smirking inwardly at the look of disbelief on the teen's face as he tried to digest all of this heart breaking information at once.
It looked like Yugi needed one more push, she was hoping he would. "If you don't believe me fine, then I'll show you."
Anzu lead Yugi back to the group, trying not to smirk at the downfallen expression on Yugi's face. Yami immediately turned his head to the two, smiling at his aibou as he took a seat next to him.
Anzu sat down beside Yami, smiling towards him in a seemingly innocent manner. He smiled at her in response before turning back to his aibou who seemed slightly depressed.
She edged closer to the Pharaoh and brushed her hand lightly against his, blushing slightly when Yami noticed the contact and stared at her again.
Anzu smirked inwardly as she talked to the Pharaoh, choosing her words carefully, "Yami, do you like me?"
Yami turned to her, raising an eyebrow before answering, "Of course Anzu, why wouldn't I?"
She smirked inwardly, "That means you like me more than a lot of other people?"
"Uh, sure, I guess."
"Would you do anything for me?" She practically purred, as she edged even closer to the Pharaoh, noting the tearful look on Yugi's face.
"Uh, yeah, I would, probably but why An-"
The Pharaoh was cut off by a pair of soft lips pressing against his own, silencing his words as Anzu grabbed his arms and wrapped them around herself.
Yugi was in shock, frozen in place as he looked at Yami, who seemed to be doing nothing to stop the brunette from what she was doing. He could swear he could hear his heart shatter as he seen the kiss take place, but he didn't stay for long as he got up and ran straight out of the park, ignoring the looks of pity coming from the five people scattered around the park as he continued to run.
Yami snapped out of his state of shock by this time, as he quickly shoved Anzu off of him and wiped his mouth in disgust. "Anzu! What the hell do you think you're doing!" he accused angrily as he stood up, watching the girl shrink back slightly.
Yami's eyes widened as he looked behind him to see that Yugi was gone. "Yugi?" he whispered, looking around for his hikari, not noticing the triumphant grin on the azure eyed girl's face.
"He left while you were wrestling with that damned Onna," Bakura spoke harshly as he wrapped an arm around Ryou's waist, almost showing off to Yami what he had and what the Pharaoh didn't have: His Hikari's affection.
Shaking his head in guilt, he clenched his fists, declaring that they must find him which they all (even Anzu) agreed on.
"Aibou..." Yami whispered guiltily before running out of the park with the others.
He stopped suddenly, wanting to know where he was, looking up he got his answer, Domino High School.
The teen sniffed and walked onto the school grounds, taking a seat on one of the benches that lined the basketball court.
He cried to himself, bringing his legs to his chest and burying his face into his knees, dampening the light pair of tracksuit bottoms he had on.
A lone figure watched the young teen cry with glee as she walked towards him, azure eyes glinting with sick pleasure at the young one's pain.
"I tried to tell you Yugi, but you wouldn't listen so I had to show you," Anzu told him, she would have sounded sympathetic had it not been for the grin breaking through her features.
Yugi sniffed, wiping his tears as he stared up at his long time "friend" with glistening amethysts, "What do I do? He was the only one I ever loved, what can I do now?" Yugi choked through the vast sobs that seemed to overwhelm his small form.
Anzu's eyes narrowed in determination, "You should leave Yugi." At this Yugi's head snapped up and he listened intently to her reasons.
"If you leave now, you can make a new start. How are you going to feel every time you look at Yami and think of what you wanted to have for so very long, just to see him in the arms of another? I'm sorry Yugi but we can't deny our love just for you to be happy, can't you understand?" She told him, ignoring the pain filled eyes he stared at her with.
Yugi looked down at the ground now, could he really go? Could he really just leave everything behind? Leave Yami behind? He had to, Anzu was right.
He slowly got up and walked past Anzu, amethyst eyes shadowed under bangs of the purest gold, as he walked home ignoring the looks anyone gave him, he couldn't bear to find other reason's to stay in this place.
A tear dripped down his cheek and hit the ground; it was the last tear of Yugi Mutou's that Domino would ever see...
The only place Yami could think of was that he had gotten home after Yami had left it to search in other places.
The Pharaoh entered the Kame Game Shop silently, looking around hopefully for his beloved aibou. Noticing a note on the table, Yami walked over to it, picking it up with shaky hands and reading the words carefully,
Dear Yami,
It's me, Yugi. I'm sorry my yami, but I must go. I cannot stay in this place while you are with Anzu, for you see I love you Yami, I have ever since we first met, but I cannot bear to stay here whilst the two of you are together so I must leave.
Tell the others I thank them for their friendship over the years and that I'll miss them dearly. I'll miss you too Yami, but I want you to forget about me and enjoy your life with Anzu but, I want you to know that I have and will always love you, my dearest yami.
Love you forever,
Your hikari,
Yugi Mutou
The ink from Yugi's neat hand writing smudged as rare tears fell from disbelieving crimson eyes and upon the note.
Yami held the note close to his heart as he dropped to his knees and sobbed quietly on the ground, his hikari was gone and there was nothing he could do about it.
He stared out the window, towards the dying rays of light on the horizon as he whispered his words, hoping against hope that the gods would let his hikari hear them,
"I love you too aibou, now and forever. Please come back to me..."
His violet eyes narrowed slightly, at the bright flare of the sun as it set behind a vast expanse of sapphire water. He was dressed in simple clothing of dark blue jeans that clung greedily to his lithe form and a grey shirt with the top few buttons open to show the collar he still wore around his neck
Clutched in his hand was a beautiful, pure white rose held delicately in his slender fingers. He lifted it to eye level, taking in the stunning beauty of each of the soft petals.
"Hey! Yugi! You ready to go?" A feminine voice shouted from behind him, he turned his head around to lock eyes with two astounding sapphires.
This girl was a stunning beauty with deep sapphire eyes and long raven hair tied together with a white ribbon. She wore ripped black jeans, a white top and a black jacket with the sleeves rolled up. She motioned towards the twin Metallic Black, Kawasaki VN's, (A/N: They're these cool motorbikes I'm hoping to get someday) which he nodded in reply.
She sighed as she left him alone with his thoughts and walked back to their bikes. Yugi smiled as he watched her leave, Resha had been there for him since he left Domino and came to this strange place, she was his best friend.
He told her everything about his past, though he was a bit afraid to tell her about Yami and his crush, fearing the disgusted look that may perhaps cross her features, but she smiled in response, saying that she understood and thought no different of him.
He shook his head and stared back at the fading sun that still refused to give up its vast light to the dark night that was already setting in. He looked at the rose again, closing his eyes and throwing it into the water, watching the small patch of delicate white float away in a sea of sapphire and towards a vast line of topaz and ruby.
'I'll always love you Yami and I hope my love will reach you' he thought to himself as he walked away towards the patiently waiting Resha.
The vast waters carried the beautiful rose across its body, letting it travel the course it desired, not disturbing its path with its waves.
As the white rose carried on another similar item floated across the other direction, another rose, only this one was a captivating black.
The two roses collided, stems entwining with one another and staying strong as the two floated together under the final flickering embers of the sun, together the way it should have been, the way it could have been, the way it may never be...
