Chapter Six: Judgment

Disclaimer: If I owned final Fantasy X, I wouldn’t have made FFX-2. It belongs to Square Enix

That night Tidus couldn’t get any sleep.

And what made the temporary nights filled with insomnia worse was that he had a trip he had to get up early for the next day. He twisted and turned, scared out of his wits that Yuna would come out at any moment. He was tired of her little fright appearances since he’d seen her inner child. She’d explain to Tidus that parts of her were roaming around the house and that her inner child wasn’t the only part of her that liked to roam freely. Needless to say Tidus didn’t want to find out what were those other parts.

I’m too tired to be paranoid tonight, Yuna.’ Tidus thought. Yuna was no where insight but he felt as if though she was still around. A simple ghost was scary enough but when one was seeking revenge, murdered, easily-tempered, and a female…well that was terrifying itself. Tidus could only lie down on his bed, his eyes filled with tired, staring at the wall. Scared, he covered his eyes with his pillows in attempt to fall asleep with no prevail.

“DAMN IT!” Tidus yelled, throwing his pillow against a nearby lamp post. He rubbed his temples and felt like pulling the very blond hairs out of his scalp. His insides felt like they were on fire, and suddenly he felt like he was in the eyes of someone else.

Stop!” Tidus saw a young Yuna as her mother protected her from getting punched. Yuna’s father glared at his wife. “For what? Yuna needs to be disciplined. If you stand in my way I’ll beat you so bad that you’ll need a new face.” He threatened. Yuna looked terrified and crawled away from her mother, receiving a light slap from her father. She tried not to cry as the pain came and stayed for the taking.

Tidus bent down, yelling. “Stop! Stop it! Stop hurting everyone!” The blond yelled through his lungs. And for a moment, Yuna’s father looked back…almost as if he’d heard Tidus’s yells. The young Yuna and her mother didn’t take notice of Tidus and quickly sneaked away as the father was distracted. Realizing he’d been tricked he chased after them and with a bat in hand. Tidus’s eyes widened with fear.

“Don’t!” Tidus called, “Don’t!” He ran after them only to bump into a wall, hitting himself on the forehead and fell back. Suddenly the lights went on, making the apparition disappear. Jecht rushed to his bleeding son and held him down as his wife quickly got a wet towel and placed it on Tidus’s bleeding spots.

“What the hell did you do to yourself? You’re bleeding everywhere.” Tidus’s mother said, wiping the red liquid quickly. Tidus was bleeding from his mouth and his nose, and held scratches around his legs. His forehead was left with no mark when he’d bump into the wall but that would change when he work up the next morning.

“Where am I?” Tidus asked, the morning had already come quickly. He realized he must have been knocked out when he’d bump into the wall. And fearing the worst, he felt a tiny bump on his head. ‘Fuck.’ He slowly sat up as his mother entered with a cup of tea.

“What the hell happened?” Tidus groaned. His mother handed him the cup, sitting beside her son with a look of concern. And it was that look that made Tidus feel nervous and a little nauseous. “You were yelling in you’re sleep, honey. You’re father and I came into the room to see you lying down on the floor bleeding from your mouth and nose.” She explained.

“Mom, I really should be heading to school…” Tidus trailed off as his mother gave him a disapproving look. “You shouldn’t go when you’re like this Tidus. I was really worried last night when you yelled. And this hasn’t been the first time…is there something you want to tell me?” She asked. Tidus looked down. ‘And burden you with ghosts problems so you to can become insane like Yuna had done to me? No thanks.’ Tidus shook his head.

“I’ll be fine at school, I’m taking a trip and we can’t get a refund.” Tidus pointed out. His mother looked like she was about to burst into tears. He smiled, hugging his mother to reassure her. “Okay, but if you feel bad in school you can reach me at work and you know I’ll come by right away.” She smiled.

Tidus shook his head. “Dad will have the car and I’ll be at the Holy Temple of Yevon, it’s a bit far from here…” He said. His mother crossed her arms. “I’ll run the whole way if I have to son.” She said. Smiling, he hugged her and then quickly rushed to get ready for the day.

….

“The day of Judgment is here.” Auron announced. Yuna stood before the Council of Morals. They stared back with their hard stares, their eyes judging Yuna by her outlook and appearance. Yuna admitted she was feeling smaller when she was in front of them but she was glad Auron had agreed to stand by her. However, Seymour decided he wanted to come to only making Yuna even smaller. “The sentencing for known to the living world as Yuna Zingers, whether or not she may be allowed to contact the human Tidus Gellar will begin.” Seymour finished.

A woman named Lenne sat in front of Yuna, smiling. “You know the side effects humans take on after interacting with ghosts.” A member of the council spoke, known as Shuyin who held a striking resemblance to Tidus. Yuna nodded under his fixing gaze. “Every one here knows it, Shuyin. But the real question is, if you know then why do you want to put a harsh fate for the young man?” Lenne asked.

Yuna looked down. “I came to realize this: I will get my revenge and if so Tidus will be erased of all memory, am I right?” She asked. Another leader nodded, known as Kimahri. “Yuna get revenge, Yuna free human.” He said. Another one rolled her red eyes.

“But if you don’t succeed then your little friend will die of nothing but angst, depression, and suicide.” She said, known as Paine. Yuna nodded. “I know, but I am more than overconfident.” She said determined.

The wisest of them all decided to speak up. “Yuna,” She spoke softy. The woman was a legend to the living word known as Yunalesca, the known protector of Spire and defeater of Sin who destroyed him with her lover Zaon.

“Not a wondering spirit has ever defied Yevon’s laws and Sin’s testimony Yuna. But I will grant you this. When you return to the living world, you will become human once more. But you must be careful because this will be your last and only life.” She warned. Everyone from the council looked up in shock. “You will rest in peace when your evil father is freed from Sin’s darkness. Once your father sees the light you will die once more. Tidus will be freed from memories of you.” She said.

“Thank you Lady Yunalesca.” Yuna bowed down to her savoir. Yunalesca smiled. “But go with knowledge that if you fail to kill your father as a human, Tidus will die. His soul will be within his rotting body when it is his time. And make sure neither you nor Tidus tell anyone of your story or they too will die of this curse.” She said. Yuna nodded. “With you, I will grant Auron live once more as will Paine from the council. Seymour will take her seat for the time she is gone. This case is finished.” She said.

Paine sighed.

Yuna smiled in triumph as she, Auron, and Paine fell back to the human world. What awaited them no one knew.

…..

The next thing Yuna knew she was lying down on a hospital. Overwhelmed, Yuna nearly cried as she saw her reflection. “I was given back my old body restored…” Yuna whispered. A nearby nurse looked at her. “My goodness, you’re beautiful. Looks like the doc did a good job. Good thing that you and those other three made it out of that accident alive.” She smiled.

“W-What others?” Yuna asked. The nurse looked at her once more with a questioning face. “The older gentleman and the girl…about your age I think. They’ve woken up already. But anyway, here are your clothes.” She said, handing Yuna’s oh-so familiar dress. Yuna took them happily and went to get changed.

“Took you long enough.” Paine scoffed, unhappy at being alive again. She’d taken her life once and she wasn’t so eager on getting it again. Auron seemed quiet at the moment until he realized Yuna stepped out. “Let’s go, I’m hungry.” He grunted. Yuna smiled and trailed behind.

“This is just amazing…I can smell again! I don’t have to go through walls!” Yuna exclaimed happily. Paine glared at her. “I liked you better when you were a ghost.” She mumbled. Yuna placed a hand on her hips, almost offended if it were not for the stares she was getting. Guys around her watched her and whistled as she passed by. “It’s like they’ve never seen people before.” Yuna said.

Auron and Paine looked at one another. ‘Must last however much time it takes.’ Paine thought desperately wanting to shove another knife on her chest. Auron thought the same, living was always overrated and besides, he had to actually open doors to get through a wall. What good was that?

They sighed.

“I wonder how Tidus will react….” Yuna wondered. It was bad enough that Tidus was scared of her but the last time she’d seen him was when he had a break down. ‘Forgive me if I don’t complete this mission…but I will kill that bastard.’ She thought angrily. Suddenly the memories of her father came back and quickly her face turned cold as stone. Paine smiled; she liked this Yuna much better anyway. Living Yuna was too cheerful for her own taste.

….

Tidus stood in front of the bus’s doors to open. At any moment now Rikku and Dona would be rushing to beg to be his partner and sit next to him. And as of cue they did. “Blondes suck, go black hair babe.” Dona smiled.

Rikku glared. “In case you haven’t notice you tart, Tidus IS blond!” and so they fought over who would sit next to Tidus, only resulting in the blond sitting next to someone else. ‘I wonder if Yuna…no…don’t think about her. Hopefully she found someone else to ramble about her angst problems…’ He would pray ten times as soon as they got to the Temple of Yevon.

Scared of falling asleep Tidus kept himself busy talking with Wakka about blitzball season while Lulu slept. “That was some hard tackle you took against Oturan last week. And the captain, Ahichu was the toughest, ya?” Wakka asked. Tidus only nodded at everything that Wakka said, not that he’d noticed.

Once they arrived at the temple it’d been hard for Tidus since Dona and Rikku insisted they work with him. Tidus in result chose Rikku who jumped in victory while Dona fumed. Tidus only liked Rikku as a friend; he really didn’t want her to get the wrong idea…

As they entered Tidus couldn’t help get a headache. The inside was dark shades with statues of humans portrayed as saints in Yevon and priest’s eyes. The priest explained everything there was to know about the past, Yunalesca, and warriors. Tidus didn’t bother to ask about ghosts in fear of raising a few eyebrows.

Tidus bent down. Rikku watched considering she was Al Bhed and not a Yevon-follower. ‘I…I feel slightly different.’ Tidus thought. All of a sudden the feeling of depression was gone. He smiled. Had Yuna done something? If so then it worked because he felt like he could jump around.

“You done?” Rikku asked, reddened. Tidus nodded, helping himself up as they walked along. Rikku couldn’t help blush when Tidus spoke. There was an awkward silence soon after the groups broke out. Tidus looked at the different statues and display of swords used to protect saints. “So…um…is it true?” Rikku asked.

“Is what true?” Tidus asked, distracted by a picture of a woman named Lenne. She was known to be one of the greatest summoner aside from Yunalesca. And her guardian Shuyin, and if that wasn’t weird enough the couple looked a lot like Yuna and Tidus. Rikku continued. “Is it true that you broke up with your girlfriend? The abusive one? Lulu said you must be depressed because of that…” She said.

Tidus was about to counter that Yuna wasn’t abusive. “G-Girlfriend?” He asked. Oh yeah, the evil Yuna decided to pose herself as his girlfriend. “Yeah, we broke up. I’m fine now though, so I don’t think you’ll have to see her again.” He said. Rikku smiled.

“Are you really okay?” Rikku asked. Tidus nodded. She just had to make sure so she can make her move. “I don’t think I’m ready for another relationship though.” Tidus added quickly. Rikku’s face fell.

“Oh…okay…if you need me then…you’ve got my number.” She smiled.

…..

Tidus threw down his bags, sighing so loud that it echoed the house. Why did school have to be so hard on him? Well other than the fact that he had a ghost-wait where was Yuna anyway? “Honey I’m home.” Tidus grumbled sarcastically. “You might want to hold your inner child again…” He warned.

Yuna wrapped her arms behind Tidus, causing him to jump.

Boo.”
