Disclaimer: I don't own pokemon, Nintendo and Game Freak own that. I do, however, own most of the characters, concepts and fan-made pokemon, unless stated otherwise.
Author's Note: One: All sorts of criticism and praise are welcome and acceptable for me. Just try not to word it too harshly; this is my first time. Two, all suggestions will be looked at, if not replied to. Three, the story will get better, I promise.
This story is set in the Jenta region. There are ten gyms, and each one has a unique twist. Currently there was a contest going on, explained in a bit more detail as the story goes on.
Pokemon talking/thoughts will be in italics, signs, books, or the Pokedex will be in bold, and anything underlined it just something that is emphasized when speaking or something.
Our hero, an eleven-year-old girl, has never been able to train pokemon. Her parents wouldn't let her. But she's on her way to becoming one, despite everything thrown in her way. And trust me, there'll be plenty of that.
And enough of that. You keep reading to find out…
"Um...miss? Helloooooo...?" the guy waved his hand in front of her face, watching for some sort of reaction. "Um...miss...If you can hear me...just sort of nod..."
The girl blinked slowly, her gaze unmoving.
"Miss." the messenger said loudly. "The only qualifications are that you have at least two pokemon by next week, and you have to have a parent's or guardian's signature on your card. If you lose that card, you can't go. We'll see you next week, miss." He slipped a card into her hand and turned, leaving, muttering something about how he had said what he needed and he didn't care if she was completely zoned out.
She blinked again, then gasped. She let out that breath in a loud scream.
"What? What is it?" Her mom skidded out onto the porch, checking her to see if she was hurt or bleeding. "Sweetie? Why are you screaming!"
The girl thrust her hand with the card in her mother's face. "I WON!" she screamed.
"Really? Oh, honey, that's great!" her mother picked her up and hugged her, then carried her inside. In the hallway, their pet Espeon wove around her mom's feet, purring loudly. The woman tripped, but her daughter landed safely on her feet, still grasping the card for dear life. "Clumsy me, and attention-craved Espeon. Not a great mixture, right, honey?" the blonde woman grinned sheepishly and got back up.
"What's with all the screaming and yelling? And I heard a thump. Is someone getting murdered out here?" Her dad walked out into the hallway, his Umbreon curled lazily around his neck.
"No, daddy. I WON THE CONTEST!" the girl shouted, grinning broadly.
"Good for you. Don't scream. I have sensitive ears, remember?" Umbreon growled, laying his 'sensitive ears' back angrily. She stuck her tongue out at the dark pokemon.
"What contest?" the navy-haired man asked, raising an eyebrow.
"The one for the PokeCruise3000! I'm one of the grand prize winners!" the girl screamed again, causing the dark one to jump offhis trainer'sshoulder and run for cover.
"Never heard of it." He shrugged, avoiding their gazes. Her mother snorted and used him to pull herself up.
"I know you have. You entered it, too."
He laughed, putting up his hands in mock defeat. The girl thrust the card in front of them with a snort. "One of you has to sign this. Otherwise I can't go. It's next week and I have to get two pokemon by then. So I'll be leaving tomorrow morning."
"I'll sign it." Her father said quickly, using the pen her mother kept tucked behind her ear.
"You just want to say that you've touched the winning card." She teased him, taking her pen back after he signed. "Okay, sweetie. If you're going, you'll have to stop by Professor Cherry's lab in Jenta Town to pick up your first pokemon and your Pokedex."
"But mom! He's crazy!" she whined.
"What's with all the noise?" her older sister peeked into the room, followed by her twin. Both of them were older than the winner, and looked the same, except for key differences. Maggie, the girl, had dark blue hair and violet-red eyes. Nick, the boy, had silver hair and the same color of eyes. Everyone thought that he dyed his hair, but his parents wouldn't tell and he definitely wouldn't. Other than the hair (and other, obvious differences) they looked just about exactly the same. Nick was two inches taller, though, and Maggie's hair was shoulder-length while his was just past his ears.
"Rena won the cruise!" her mother said cheerfully, picking up Espeon.
"What? I wanted that!" the twins said in unison.
"There's no way that she could've—"
"Won that trip. Plus, she's not really qualified."
"She needs two pokemon—"
"And it'd help if she was actually a trainer. Besides—"
"Would you let her on a cruise—"
"With tons of other trainers and pokemon?"
"One of the trained ones could—"
"Sniff her out—"
"OKAY, ENOUGH, YOU TWO!" her mother said loudly. She thought it was cute that they could finish each other's sentences, but it got on her nerves occasionally, as well as each others'. The twins glared at each other for a brief moment, then returned their attention to their mother.
"Just stating the facts." Maggie said softly, shrugging.
"You never know, mom." Nick added, smiling slightly.
"As long as her crystal is on, she's okay." Her father said firmly.
The hero of our story is obviously that young girl who won the contest. It was a contest for the maiden ride of the PokeCruise3000, the newest and best pokemon cruise available. It was fully equipped with several smaller stadiums, ballroom, large dining room, several floors of five-star sleeping rooms, game corner ("Of course you can't go! It's for ADULTS only!"), and several awesome things like that. But that wasn't the thing that she wanted. One, it was an excuse for her to become a trainer. Two, she could travel around the world without her parents. Three, gym leaders, elite trainers, celebrities, and the current champion were going on it, too. Four, she could rub it in her siblings' faces.
The girl, Rena, is part of a normal, average family. She has two parents, a brother, a sister, and several pet pokemon. Well, her dad is a gym leader and her sister and brother are elite trainers, but other than that, normal. There's also the little fact about how her parents are ex-Rockets, too…But they're changed people. They saw that the Rockets are evil and quit while they were ahead. Unfortunately, not before experimenting with the other scientists…They were actually in the branch of creating pokemorphs. It wasn't pretty work, but someone had to feed their two children. Rena wasn't around when they were in the Rockets. Well, she was…born right at the end of their career, but she can't remember anything about it, of course. Nick and Maggie can only just barely.
Rena is just like any other eleven year old. Except that she doesn't have any pokemon…but she's normal in most other aspects. She has long, straight, dark blonde hair and light silver eyes that seemed to change with her mood. She argues and fights with her brother and sister, and love them like any other kid with their siblings. Her best friend was a Naki plushie her mom made for her when she was little, since she couldn't go to school. They lived out in the middle of Jenta Forest, less than a mile from Jenta Town. Okay, Rena has her share of abnormalness. She won a contest when her chances were about 7 million to one. Her parents are ex-Rockets. Her brother and sister are twins that finish each other's sentences. She had a plushie of a legendary pokemon that she still carried around with her. She had slight fangs, awesome reflexes, and a literal sixth sense about things. She was, after all, a contest-winning-soon-to-be-trainer-almost-preteen pokemorph.
