Vetinari examined the drawing for a few minutes, before looking sharply at Leonard. 'Why mount a series of rotating blades if you're going to keep them behind a grill?'

'Oh, the grill is absolutely necessary. The imps on the miniature treadmill – at the bottom, see – should be able to generate a good deal of speed, enough to make the device shockingly dangerous.'

'Isn't that the point? Yet another purely hypothetical way of inflicting pain?'

'Actually, it's been quite hot up here today, so...'

Vetinari held a small mirror to the drawing, and read:
