Safety Found in Distance

Chapter 28:

Sticks n Stones can Break his Bones- But Only his Sister’s Words can Hurt Him

Author Note: Am I late? Um…yes. Wanna know what’s kinda’ funny tho probably will just make you mad(der) at me? I’ve had this chapter done for awhile, and I thought that I had already submitted it. (screams) So when I found the list of people that I was supposed to email alert I went "oh no!" thinking that I forgot to email people. But…I went to my reviews to make sure I wasn’t forgetting anyone and noticed there weren’t any reviews for the new chapter. Ehehe…Well, I figured out WHY! I lost count of the days too, but I DO know that this chapter got out way sooner than the last! (That’s sad too, because this one still took forever! It still would’ve been a little late if I had submitted it when I thought I had) I emailed everyone who asked, and only one or two didn’t send correctly… but I tried, so 99 of those on the ‘mailing list’ were notified. Thank you again for your reviews guys. This story has been so much fun writing and I’m glad you guys have had just as much fun reading it. I look at the number of reviews and my eyes hurt, it will never cease to amaze me. Also…ehehehe, kind of a long chapter title there… But I love amusing titles. AND sniff! Sniff! this story’s almost over!! It’s so sad!! It seems like one of those stories that never end!

Vocabulary:

Ecchi- perverted (there is a difference between ‘hentai’ and ‘ecchi’)

Note: I had to email over THIRTY people to alert for this chapter, wow! And I send everyone separate emails so none of them don’t work because of a bad email address or something... I spent over an hour sending email alerts, I couldn’t believe it! But it just makes me happy, so don’t feel bad at all

"E-Eriol-chan! Are you sure you know where we’re going!!" Tomoyo called out to the man in front of her.

After having a none-to-inviting run in with the security at the front gates, they were now on the run through the upper halls of the Li Clan estate being sought after by some guards of minor magic abilities. It seemed that getting someone to believe your Clow Reed’s reincarnation and that you wanted to see your cousin, who just happened to be the Li Clan’s future leader; was a rather difficult task. Eriol had gotten Tomoyo to follow him after saying he knew where he was going, but apparently his statement wasn’t quite as true as either of them had hoped.

"Stop worrying so much, Tomoyo-chan!" Eriol called behind him.

"I would love to Eriol-chan…But there are guards close behind that insist on trying to melt my shoe soles with their magic!!"

Eriol looked over his shoulder. Indeed. There were about seven guards rather hot on their trail and trying out some rather low-level attack spells in attempt to slow them down. It wasn’t really working, rather, it only made them run faster. Though, as important as the Li Clan was he expected that some more skilled sorcerers would appear in front of them soon to intervene and take over. That wouldn’t be good.

"Pick up the pace a little, Tomoyo-chan. We’re going to be hiding in a second."

"What!?" Tomoyo asked in confusion, though she tried as best she could to do as told.

After another short minute of running, putting some distance between them and the guards, Eriol whirled around and grabbed her hands ducking into one of the closest rooms down the hall once they were out of sight. Thankfully, there was no one occupying the room and it was dark enough to where they were just able to make out the outline of furniture and such.

"Erio--mmph!" Eriol clamped a hand gently over Tomoyo’s mouth in the silence of the room. With a quiet ‘shh!’ he held one finger to her lips before retracting his hand. The door and walls were thick and dense, but they could just make out the sound of the guards running by yelling and panicked. Once it was silent again they both sighed.

"It seems that the Li Clan’s security isn’t what it used to be. Though for that we should be thankful." Tomoyo said as she gathered her breath back.

"Indeed." Eriol breathed deeply and cleaned his glasses with the sleeve of his robes. Tomoyo elbowed him lightly. "I thought you said they would welcome you with open arms… And that we would make a grand entrance. Is this what you had in mind?" She asked with a look that Eriol could see even in the darkness. Eriol just smiled though, which she could also see in the darkness, "…That would be if they believed I was Clow Reed’s reincarnation in the first place." Tomoyo frowned. "I don’t recall you ever saying that." He raised his index finger in a thoughtful manner, "You must listen more carefully, Tomoyo-chan." She rolled her eyes at him and they moved forward, looking for a better place in the room hide rather that standing in front of the doorway.

"…….."

"My….This is so romantic." Tomoyo said sarcastically once they were both hiding in the bedroom closet back to back. She felt Eriol shrug behind her. She frowned again, "Just wondering, but if they’re sorcerers…won’t they be able to sense us?"

"I put up a small blocking spell on our auras. Even yours. Though…my magic isn’t nearly as strong as it used to be." Eriol replied calmly.

"I thought you didn’t use magic anymore…" Tomoyo said suspiciously.

"I don’t. …. Usually. But this is a bedroom, and most bedrooms in this estate have magic seals around them any way."

Tomoyo blinked in the darkness thoughtfully. "They do? Why is that?" She asked curiously, glad they were allowing themselves to talk rather than stay hidden in silence. She strained to look over her shoulder and see him in the darkness. Wait…was he smiling? She blinked.

"Why Tomoyo-chan… surely all of the nice couples here at this estate don’t want others to nose in on what they’re doing at night. Even you should be able to figure out that someone’s aura flares with their emotions. Don’t you think a bunch of flaring energy at night would draw unwanted attention?"

Tomoyo blushed a deep crimson, grateful for the darkness of the closet, though still a bit suspicious. "O-Oh. Is…Is that true?"

"I don’t know. Maybe."

Tomoyo sighed away her crimson and elbowed him a little hard in the back. "Eriol-chan. What an ecchi thing to say."

"Really? I thought it was perfectly logical."

"Hmmph."

Syaoran stopped and caught his breath outside of his bedroom door. Sakura had slammed it behind her, still in tears, and he was thankful that it locked with a key and she didn’t have a spare. Well…yet at least. Concerned and cautious, he opened the door and peered inside. The lamp on his nightstand had been turned on and she had thrown herself face down into the center of his bed with her sobbing face hidden in her arms.

"Oh Sakura…" He sighed and sat down next to her, rubbing her back comfortingly. She didn’t push him away but she didn’t stop crying in the least either.

"I know everything’s messed up right now, but I said that I’d make sure that everything worked out. Won’t you stop crying?"

There was a pause in her sobs but then she shook her head and decided to continue crying again. Syaoran rolled his eyes, but he managed to drag her up into a sitting position. She had thoroughly soaked his pillow, but he paid it no more attention than a disapproving look before turning his attention back to her. She had her eyes shut tight and shook with sobs continuously.

"Sakura, you know I hate it when you cry."

She looked at him through blurry eyes, a little curiously. But she looked more like a lost little kitten trying to sport puppy eyes than a cherry blossom. If she asked, she could probably convince him to let her continue crying if she kept that look on her face. He tried to ignore it by bringing his sleeve up to wipe away her tears instead.

"Please don’t cry Sakura. Come on, talk to me."

"E-Everybody’s f-fight-ing!" She choked and burst out into a new set of tears. As much as it hurt to see his dear cherry blossom crying, Syaoran rolled his eyes and stuck his head in his hands. Sakura never did like fighting. She had never even truly gotten used to fighting cards. Determined, yes. Used to fighting, no. Sakura had a purity that could make many people sick. He had long since gotten over that though, of course. But he had warned her no one would be taking lightly to their union.

"I told you everyone would be upset. Didn’t you expect this?"

"Not THIS bad! I knew Oniichan would be mad, but not THIS mad! And you’re mom’s all sad now too! I don’t want to break up families!"

"But Sakura…Your brother wasn’t originally supposed to find out anything other than the fact we were engaged."

Sakura blushed and choked on her tears for a moment. "Y-Yeah…I know. I just hate fighting."

"I know. But you’ve got to be strong, okay?" He asked, ruffling up her hair. "We’re going to have to do some fighting of our own you know."

She sniffled, but smiled lightly. "Hoee…I know."

"Now are you gonna stop crying for me?" He smiled, and wiped away another silent tear.

"I’m not crying anymore!" She stated, smiling back, even though an unruly sniffle made itself known. Syaoran motioned forward with a simple hand gesture and she gratefully accepted, crawling into his lap and cuddling into his chest.

"They all know now. Can I trust you to keep calm during the rest of this?…They’re going to fight more…" Syaoran whispered in her ear.

"I’ll try really hard?" She replied, looking up at him hopefully. He smiled back and nodded and she hugged him in return.

She was content to nuzzle her face into his neck until a small laugh made her look up. Syaoran was blushing, just slightly, though not near as bad as it used to be back when they were sealing cards.

"Syaoran…chan?"

"Can I be needy enough to ask another request of you?" His blush deepened, but his smirk betrayed the thought he was embarrassed. She nodded cautiously.

Syaoran cupped her cheek and brought his face closer, making her cheeks lightly color also. "Can I have that kiss I missed out on earlier?" He asked, not waiting for an answer and brushing her lips with his. Sakura smiled widely at him with a happy glint in her eyes and giggled. "I wasn’t going to kiss you like that, silly." She blushed again, slightly embarrassed at her own forwardness, and leaned up to give him a firmer kiss. She felt his lips curve upwards against hers in a smile and she wrapped her arms around his neck and started wiggling.

"What on earth are you doing?" Syaoran asked, rather amused as she managed to shift his sitting position with her jerky movements. When she stopped he was sitting on the bed with her still in his lap facing the head board of his bed. She just smiled up at him and her intent was made clear when she reeled back and dragged him forward with her, her head landing perfectly on the pillows. He raised a curious eyebrow.

"I want to be comfy and kiss you at the same time." She stated indignantly.

"Oh?" He asked as he sat up from his position and straddled her waist. He smiled down at her warmly and she kicked her legs under him impatiently. "From the looks of it, I get to be the one kissing you." He said, finally leaning down. She stuck her tongue out at him and wrapped her arms around his neck again bringing their lips together. "I don’t care." She mumbled against his lips a second later. He just stretched out against her body again more comfortably and deepened the kisses. He had locked his bedroom door after him when they had entered, so they didn’t have to worry about anyone walking in on them again, though they were smart enough not to go very far after all that had happened already.

"Oh dear."

"What a lovely picture this would make... It’d make a wonderful postcard. I’m sure one of his sisters would love a copy."

"Oh my god. I forgot my camera! It’s in my suitcase!"

And that was how much was able to be said before Syaoran and Sakura had flung apart and rolled off opposite sides of the bed. An "AHHH!" omitted from Syaoran, and a "HOEEEE!!" from Sakura. They both looked up wide-eyed to see none other than Eriol and Tomoyo both standing at the end of the bed with smiles.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IN MY ROOM!!"

"We thought that was you and Sakura’s voices we heard…" Eriol smiled and shrugged. "Guessed right, I see."

There was a moment of silent tension until Sakura blinked rapidly and looked behind the new appearance. She pointed.

"Were you guys…in the closet together!?" She blurted out incredulously.

Eriol twitched and Tomoyo gasped audibly.

Syaoran fell over.

"It’s not what you think…" Tomoyo tried to sound her usual calm.

"Actually we had a rather unfriendly welcome when we arrived. After being chased by the security for a few hallway lengths, this was the first RANDOM room we hid in. How lucky we were that it was yours!" Eriol covered for her.

Syaoran just stared at him in disbelief and tried to glare at the same time. Sakura’s head was spinning with all the new events. The new appearance, the interruption, WHO the new appearances were, and WHAT they had been suspiciously accused of doing…

Blink blink.

Something clicked.

"To…Tomoyo-chan?"

Tomoyo smiled sweetly. "Yes, Sakura-chan?"

"Why and how did you get here?"

Tomoyo blinked also and then smiled at Eriol, who returned the gesture. Syaoran backed away from the other man to stand beside Sakura and fix an expectant gaze on their two friends.

"No "I miss you" or "I’m glad you’re here" from you? I was so worried, but you know I forgive you Sakura-chan."

Sakura shook her head violently, still dazed, and resisted the urge to run forward and hug her best friend to convince her otherwise; but Syaoran’s hand was on her shoulder. "O-Of course I missed you, Tomoyo-chan!! I was just so surprised that…" She sighed and rubbed her temples, still mindful that Tomoyo hadn’t given her an answer yet.

"Mind answering the question, Daidouji-san?" Syaoran ushered impatiently, still flustered about the interruption. Tomoyo nodded and beat Eriol in responding, seeing him open his mouth to cover for her again.

"Eriol-chan saw I was so worried for Sakura-chan that he offered to bring me here. I felt awful accepting such a generous offer, but he insisted. I’m glad, now I can video tape you AND watch over you, Sakura-chan!" Tomoyo smiled widely at her best friend and then made sure to give Eriol a thankful smile again as well.

"Tomoyo-chan, I can’t believe you still feel bad over that. Nothing should stand in the way of two best friends, don’t you think so, Syaoran?" Eriol gave his trademark smile to the lot of them.

Syaoran scoffed, "Of course I don’t think anything should get in their way, but that doesn’t mean you can just--

Syaoran gasped in unison with Sakura and they stared at their friends again, a thick silence overcoming the room, as they gaped. Tomoyo and Eriol blinked at one another and looked back at the other couple in question. Sakura and Syaoran both drew in large steady breaths.

"CHAN!!" They both blurted out loudly at the same time, eyes widening.

"Tomoyo and Eriol –CHAN!!"

Tomoyo sighed and seemed to think she could handle the ‘misunderstanding’ calmly, so she started explaining her and Eriol’s phone conversation from awhile back, but… No one was listening to her and Sakura broke free from Syaoran to glomp her full force.

"Tomoyo-chan!! You never told me you two got together!! Ooooh, I’m so happy for you!! I knew there was something special between you and him! Hoeee! I’m so surprised, and soooo happy!!" Sakura rambled on happily ignoring Tomoyo’s protests and pleading looks she was sending over Sakura’s shoulder at Eriol. Though, Eriol looked thoroughly amused with the whole situation while Syaoran seemed disgusted and continued to demand how Tomoyo ever learned to love something like him.

It wasn’t until Sakura was starting to fantasize about having a double wedding that Tomoyo gained enough strength to free herself and grab Sakura’s shoulders, yelling loud enough that everyone stared at her in shock.

"SAKURA, LISTEN TO ME!!"

"………."

She gasped and covered her mouth in embarrassment as her three friends gawked, not knowing her voice, though capable of amazing singing capabilities, could project in such a manner.

"Ohohohohoho…." She laughed nervously and waved them off, making everyone sweat-drop.

Touya sat brooding to himself, hopelessly surrounded by women who were trying to snap him out of his mood. The women didn’t seem to be helping him at all though, if anything …they were making his condition worse.

"Oh come on, Touya-san! She was mad, and people always say things they don’t mean when they’re angry!" Meilin sighed as she stood with her hip propped up against the chair adjacent to his.

"Yeah, women especially!" One of Syaoran’s sisters added, getting incredulous looks from the rest of the women and making Touya roll his eyes.

"Not Sakura…She doesn’t lie about things like that." He mumbled matter-o-factly.

"You’re her brother! She doesn’t hate you, she’s just really upset. If I was in her position I would’ve probably said the same thing." Meilin reasoned, and after a moment continued again, "No, I would’ve done worse." She corrected and nodded to herself.

"Oh! I can relate!" One of Syaoran’s sisters clapped her hands together and knelt before Touya looking as if she had finally realized something that would solve his doubts. He raised a bored looking eyebrow at her and growled.

"Once I got really, really, really mad at Syaoran for going in my room and I said I would take his underwear and pin it up all over in the hallways if he ever did it again!" She stated loudly. Everyone looked at her in disbelief and wrinkled their noses in dawning disgust. "But I didn’t mean it at all! I would never touch his underwear, ICK!!" She concluded, looking at Touya for approval. "Oh for crying out loud!" Meilin blurted out and smacked herself in the face, shoving the kneeling sister and sending her to the ground face first into the table post beyond Touya’s chair. "OW!"

"Get. Away." He ordered angrily and groaned, dropping his head on the table heavily, folding his arms over it in hopelessness.

"But Touya-san—

"Touya-san!!"

"OUT!!"

To be continued….

Eeeee! I don’t know HOW late this chapter was, but I am VERY sorry for misleading you all with that promise it would only be like two weeks. What was it, four? ….horror music more maybe even!! Well, I don’t have school this week so bonus for you people, I get to write all week! Joy! Cliff hanger again, but hopefully you wont be waiting long to find out what happens next because it’ll be out soon as long as I don’t run out of Ramen, Cadbury eggs, sushi, and Dr. Pepper! (Interesting inspiration food?)

You hate me? I hope not. But please review even if you do. I still love you all bursts into tears waaaah!! I’m not even a blonde and I was ditzy enough to completely forget to put out this chapter!! It’s unhealthy to be writing four stories at once, I tell you! Unhealthy! Don’t EVER do it yourselves, it’ll probably give you a disease of some sort! I’m sure I already have one.
