I wish I could say everyone was wrong.

I do. Say everything you've heard was just a rumour from the Green Dragon; say Frodo's my friend, nothing more. Not because I regret anything between and him, only because I don't want to look into your eyes, see the tears and know it's my fault they're there.

The words "Don't be silly, Rose," are on the tip of my tongue, in fact. But you trust me to be honest and I will be. I know you expected me to marry you, but I couldn't, not if I've lied to you. I don't know if I could bring myself to marry you at all, though.
