K...Scoop...this is the first few chapters from He Leaves Home - A Winding Road to No Where Part 2

He Leaves Home.

Through the darkness there is a silence after a train passes. A slim man with a long coat flowing behind him freely. His eyes were trained too the darkness as they glowed. A light flashes around him, a quick glance is seen. He's tall, very muscular and his eyes glow a very deep red. At the sight he disappears again as a train passes. Gone.

There is a slight pause in this new town…somewhere though, that he has been before. The train stops as he jumps off and recollects himself gracefully rolling out of the way, out of sight. A sign flashes to his left. A neon sign…not a bar…but a night club. Crossfire Hangout flashed in the darkness. (Where to now?) He thought to himself…(Guess dat flashin' sign be de only way out.)

He heads for the club and slides into a corner where the strobe lights can't catch him. Just as he turns around, the most beautiful woman he has ever seen crosses his path and bumps into him.

"Oh…Sorry sah. Didn' see yah there." She said in a light southern drawl. His eyes were actually looking into hers…admiring the soft green luster the lights were picking up.

"Dat be quite alright cheri." He responded casually. "Wut would brin' a fine belle femme like y'self out dis late?"

"Well swamp rat…seein' is how it's a perfect naght t' dance…thaht'll be why." She giggled.

"Swamp rat?" He questioned.

"Y' from N'awlins right?"

"Oui…Dis Cajun from dere." He smiled wittingly and taking her hand. "Allow me t' introduce m'self. Names Gambit. Friends call Me Remy LeBeau."

"Well Cajun…Ah'd say yah have yah work cut out don't you?"

His breath caught shallow as she blinked her eyes breaking him out of the trance he was in. "S' cheri. Wut be y' name?"

"People call me Rogue." She smiled brightly. Admiring the bright red orbs that were his eyes.

"'Zat y' real name cheri…cuz Remy'd say dat it suit y' fine."

"Y' a real charmah aren' yah Remy."

Remy's breath stopped for that solitary moment as his name was caressed in that sweet southern accent. He followed her lips. Those red full, bright lips that he wanted ever so to kiss.

"Remy is wut ever y' wan' him t' be cheri. Anyt'ing for y'." Remy then gave a soft crinkled smile as he bowed and kissed her hand.

"An' Ah found mahself a gentlemen too." Gambit was attentive as her soft green eyes gave off a loving glow. Just then a none-to-friendly grip was slowly breaking his shoulder.

"Rogue…is this man botherin' ya?" A stern country voice said from behind him.

"Nah…Sugah. Ah'm jus' chattin'." She responded to the gruff man. "Go on 'bout yah business Logan."

The stranger Remy saw Rogue call Logan walked back over to the bar. He was shorter than Remy by a good foot, but his muscles were nothing short of spectacular.

"Who was dat?"

"Oh…thaht's Logan. He's a little ovah protective o' me Sugah. He don' wan' t' see me hurt again. He's like mah fahthah." She cooed into his ear.

"Mmmm…" He responded. Not only to her sentence but to her breath slightly tickling the back of his neck. "S' Cheri…wut brin' y' t' New York?"

"Ah live here." She smiled. "Ah used t' live in Mississippi."

"Could tell by de accent Cheri dat y' from de south, jus didn' know where from e'zactly." She saw his crimson eyes flash with that response.

"Well Remy, whaht brings yah t' New York on this fahne hour?"

"Remy was passin' t'rough cheri. Didn' t'ink he'd run int' anybody like y'."

"Whaht's thaht sposed t' mean?"

"Cheri…y' beautiful. Y' stopped me dead in my tracks when I saw y'."

Rogue's smile returned to her face as she gave him a very sassy glance. "Would yah care t' dahnce with me? Aftah all, they are playin' music foh a reason."

He bowed his head again as he took her hand. "Remy'd be honored cheri."

They found their way to the dance floor as the song began…slow and steady…Suddenly Remy felt like he knew this song and started to look into Rogue's beautiful jewel-like eyes as he sang it to her. (Come What May/ Moulan Rouge (SP?))

Then she starts to sing to him. Not knowing why or how…it just happens. It feels right…like they know each other some how.

The song ends as their eyes are still locked. His staring into her emerald diamonds, and her staring into his glowing crimson eyes. They brightened when he smiled at her and tried to kiss her but she turned.

"Wut de matter?" Remy asked her as her beautiful eyes became murky.

"If people touch my skin somethin' 'appens." She sighed and looked into his eyes again.

"It'd be worth de risk cheri. Dis Cajun up t' wut ever y' can put out cheri."

"I drain people's energy. I don' wan' t' hurt you."

"Remy'll be fine Cheri. Dis Cajun can take a beatin'. 'Sides cheri I t'ink it'd be worth de risk." She smiled at his comment.

"Yah wanna end up in a coma?"

"I won' cheri. Dere's not'ing t' fear."

"Y' don' know thaht Remy." Rogue breathed as he got closer to her, closing the gap between them as his lips met hers. He felt a small tingle, but ignored it and deepened the kiss, she responded to his actions by running her fingers through his hair ever so slightly sending a tingle up his spine that he couldn't ignore…he groaned her name against her lips and deepened the kiss even further.

As he pulled back her eyes stayed glued to his as another song began to play.

(I Could Fall In Love With You...Don't know the artist)

Remy's eyes stayed locked with hers…his eyes turned bright as the dance floor grew dim. She became instantly amazed at how they held their glow as she pulled closer to him and started to whisper in his ear.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXx

"Remy…" Rogue commented in a seductive whisper. "Why are yer eyes like thaht? They're so beautiful."

He pulled her closer to him… "My eye's have always been like dis cheri. Remy don' know why dey dat way…"

The song ended and their trance was finally broken. She looked up at him again and sighed. "Ah have t' go now. Mahbe Ah'll see yah again sometime?"

"Cheri…" He said taking her hand. "…y'll see me when y' least expect it. Look fo' me always."

Remy then bowed and kissed her hand again, leaving a solitary playing card behind as he made his way out of the club. Rogue blushed and turned it over to reveal the Queen of Hearts. Inscribed at the bottom was a message and a cell phone number. The message was simple. "Jus' look around Cheri…I'm never lost t' y'. Y'll find me when y' least expect t'. T'ough if y' wanna see me an' I'm not around…Call me…"

She stood there silently and held the card to her chest before putting it into her back pocket. Logan come up behind her and startled her with a comment.

"There's somethin' fishy 'bout that Cajun. I'm not tellin' ya that ya can't see him Rogue…I can tell he makes ya happy…Jus' be careful. Fer yer own good. Got me girl?" He commented to her briefly.

Her only response was the nod of her head. She turned to face him. "He's not afraid of meh Logan. Ah may have a chance."

"I know darlin'. Jus' be careful."

That was all they said as they walked out of the club together and went home. Not noticed to them…two red lights were following them through the darkness…all the way back to their destination.

There's something different about this femme…

A few days later, Remy couldn't get those eyes out of his head. How they stared so completely into his without fear. So many feared his eyes when he didn't use his charm. Though there was something different about this girl. He hadn't used his charm the whole night and she didn't look away from him. He looked at himself in a nearby window…disgust crossed his face. The eyes that stared back at him…he felt like a demon. But her…she made him feel so different. Accepted instead of feared. Plus a new feeling that he hadn't felt before. He just didn't want her…he needed her. Just the remembrance of their kiss, of their embrace drove him nuts. Remy had just met the girl and could tell there was something more to them. As much as he didn't hate to admit it…he was falling in love with her…after one day.

Just as he turned the corner he felt his pocket vibrate and he pulled out his cell phone to see an unknown number. He answered it quickly.

"Oui?" His voice sounded tightened.

"Hey Sugah…where yah at? Ah wanna see yah."

His chest tightened at her voice so perfect. He could imagine her smile as he finally found the breath to speak. "I'm around cheri. Why…Where y' wanna see me?"

"There's a movie Ah've been wantin' t' see. Can yah meet me at tha theatre in a half hour?"

"Anyt'ing fo' y' cheri. De theatre in a half hour. Y' have my word." He smiled as he heard her pucker her lips into the phone.

"Tis a date then, Remy."

The phone clicked as she hung up and his heart skipped a beat to his name wound around in that thick southern accent. He had to admit, out of all the other girls…this one was certainly taking a toll on his heart. Pulling him in deeper than no other girl could. Man dis belle gonna do dis Cajun in. She so beautiful…Remy can' resist her. He don' even need charm…she charmin' him over. LeBeau…pull y'self t'gether. Wut be de use neh? Can' win forever. He sighed and sat in front of the theatre waiting on her. He pulled out a deck of card and started to shuffle them nonchalantly.

A little while past when he saw the vision in front of him. He grasped his chest trying to breath. She had that effect on him.

"Well Sugah…if Ah didn' know any bettah Ah'd say yah'd seen a ghost." She chuckled as he gained his composure.

"Y' don' know wut y' do t' Remy. Especially when y' dress like dat." His smile widened as he kissed her hand.

Since their previous encounter she knew she was able to touch him. Which, of course, she thought to be very odd. Though, nonetheless, it was an opening that maybe this was her chance at a normal life. Rogue looked into his eyes attentively, noticing the red in his eyes was growing brighter at her appearance. She loved those eyes. And didn't know why he tried to hide them all the time. Through his sunglasses, they grew a beautiful velvet color.

"Take off those silly sunglasses swamp-rat." She sighed as she reached for them and pulled them off. "Yah eyes are t' beautiful t' hide."

He examined her fully. The skirt she had chosen to wear made him feel so unlike himself. He wanted to just take her somewhere to be alone for a long time. Not that he minded this new feeling. Remy, in some ways, thought that she did this to annoy him. For if she knew anything about his eyes, they would glow brighter when certain feelings were running through his mind.

"Y' really mean dat, Cheri?" He asked puzzled as she gazed into his ruby orbs.

"O' course Ah do. Why yah try an' hide 'em anyway?"

"A lotta people afraid o' me Cheri. Even My family when I was a kid. Dey call me Le Diable Blanc." (Translation: White Devil.) He hung his head low at this comment and he felt his head being picked up by her soft hand on his chin.

"There ain' no reason fo' me t' be afraid o' yah. Hunnie…ya sweet t' me. Thaht's all Ah'm lookin' fo'." She gave him a reassuring smile. Rogue then rubbed her hand across his five o' clock shadow and kissed his lips longingly. He felt moved by this, so moved that it caused a fire to be stirred within him. Something that he could honestly admit that he had never felt before about anyone. Her passion matched his own…he knew now why she was called Rogue.

Finally he spoke. "Bien, si je ne suis pas le diable blanc à vous puis ce qui suis moi ?" (Translation: Well, if I'm not the white devil to you then what am I?)

"A very charming man, one Ah'd like t' get t' know a little bit better."

"Chéri, vous volez mon coeur avec ces mots." He breathed slightly. (Translation: Darling, you steal my heart with those words.)

She simply replied in French to surprise him. "Bien, vous prenez mon sucre de coeur. Que projetez-vous faire avec lui ?" (Translation: Well, you have my heart sugar. What do you plan to do with it?)

Remy's knees felt weak at that comment as he took her into his arms and kissed her with a swelling hunger. Slowly at first so that she didn't push away, then faster and stronger as he felt her respond. Her fingers ran through his hair and the other hand under his shirt to feel the muscles and grooves of his toned body. She moaned softly as he massaged her back with his fingertips. They finally broke away softly. She looked at him again, licking her lips impatiently…waiting for him to continue. When he didn't she captured his mouth again and waited for him to make his move.

He paused and looked down into the gems that were her eyes. They were so full of passion and life, they had him mesmerized. "Sugah…how 'bout that movie now?"

Gambit agreed so that he could regain his composure. They had made it just in time for the late show. She reluctantly let him pay for everything. As they made their way in she pulled him into a very dark corner in the back so that she could get comfortable. There was a metal arm rest that separated them, so he charged it to an appropriate temperature and bent the bar down so that she could get comfortable next to him. She leaned into his embrace as the movie began.

Truth be told he couldn't concentrate on the movie at all. All he could feel were her fingertips gliding down the insides of his leg…he tried not to moan at the apparent feeling he was getting, though it was all too noticeable. She was taunting him, and he didn't like it because there was nothing he could do in this place. He finally grabbed her hand and held it firmly.

"Cheri, y' keep doin' dat, somet'ing gonna go wrong."

"Whaht's tha mattah? Don' like ta be teased?" She pouted.

"Not in dat way cheri." He groaned slightly as he let her hand go and she then continued up his thigh. "Don' do dat…" He whispered. His head then tilted back as he tried to hold his composure…he flinched as she continued to trace the line in his pants further up.

She continued to trace the seam line in his pants further to make him flinch. She wanted to see if he'd do anything to her…to even it out. In actuality she wanted him to…but he wasn't even making a move. So she continued further up until she reached the place she wanted…she felt his body get hotter underneath her…

He had enough…he trailed his fingers up her leg then up her thigh. She groaned slightly at this…it was what she wanted him to do from the beginning as she continued to taunt him. She then looked up into his bright eyes as they continued to get brighter. "Remy…" She breathed weakly. "Take me somewhere…"

He agreed…

They had wound up at his apartment kissing wildly on the way in as he kicked the door shut with his foot, his coat neatly placed on the rack. He whispered French against her lips as they made their way across the floor…

The Next Day…

He sighed very contently as his eyes fluttered open to see her awake beside him. Her hair was disheveled and some of the white accents were thrown aback. Remy grinned at her, even without all of her usual dress-up type things…she was still the most belle thing he had ever had the privilege to know. Rogue sat back with her head in her hand leaned up on her elbow.

"Well thought thaht Ya'd never wake up sugah. Wut took yah so long?"

He laughed quickly… "Cherie…y' wore dis Cajun out."

"Nevah heard yah complain…" She smiled. "…Yah surely did enjoy yahself though if Ah recall."

"Would y' do the pleasure in remindin' me?" With that comment he wiggled his eyebrows up and down for a seductive gesture.

"Gambit…yah such a joker! But if yah wan' cook me breakfast an' we gotta deal."

"But which one come first?" He asked charmingly.

"Reminder first…breakfast latah."

And that was all that he needed.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

"S' cheri…how'd y' like dis Cajun's cookin'?"

"Yah a good cook. Bettah than tha ones Ah Know." She smiled and kissed his cheek.

"What about complements t' de cook?"

"Don' press y' luck Cajun. Though last night was very wonderful."

"Well den…would y' like a encore performance?" He wiggled his eyebrows playfully.

"I might…but…Ah've gotta go. People'll be lookin' fo' me Remy." Rogue smiled. "But…If ya evah wanna contact me…here's mah cell number."

She quickly grabbed a piece of paper and a pen out of her coat pocket and wrote down some information.

"Ah'll see yah soon sugah." She smiled and kissed him teasingly.

"Now y' keep on doin' dat an' y' won' leave dis house fo' at least anot'er hour."

"Y' keep sayin' thin's like thaht an' Ah may stay…but Ah gotta go. Call me latah okay sugah. Ah'll miss hearin' thaht sweet Louisiana tune aftah a while."

Gambit smiled and bent down to kiss her hand…"Well until we meet again cheri…Remy'll be watchin' over you."

She walked out to see a Ace of Spades card in her hand with more information. A restaurant name, address, and table reservation number. The relationship was just beginning.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Well…Cheri…wut did y' have in mind?

It was a beautiful evening as Rogue found herself walking down the street to find the restaurant that Remy wanted her to meet him at. She walked to find a beautiful sunset view and a table full of roses on the outside balcony…Logan had dropped her off because he wanted to make sure she wasn't getting herself into trouble about this whole thing. Truthfully he was uneasy about the Cajun wonder that happened to be after Rogue.

She stopped in front of a beautiful French Café where she had seen the balcony table view and sighed…the address matched and she was in for the time of her life. Upon entering the host greeted her and asked her about her reservations.

"Ah was told table 141, section B7. See…" She showed him the playing card. "…That's whaht Ah was told."

"Ahh…yes… LeBeau, Right this way madam."

He led her to the table out on the balcony where Remy was waiting for her dressed in a tux. Boy did he look stunning…when the host finally left he took off the sunglasses to give her a full view of his glowing velvet eyes. She smiled very brightly as she gave him a once-over. The suit was black…the deepest black imaginable with a single red rose in the pocket. The shirt was white, pure silk and left little to the imagination. He was simply gorgeous. His hair accented his face by flowing down in small wisps.

While this was going on he looked at her. She was wearing a dress that matched the color of her eyes and had a glittering effect. Her hair was let down in soft curls as the white stripe was slowly pulled throughout the rest of her hair giving of a soft highlighting effect.

He brought her into a kiss and tried to speak without getting tongue tied by her beauty. "Chéri que vous regardez simplement magnifique." (Translation: Darling you look simply gorgeous.)

"Well…yah look wondahful yahself Cajun. Yah clean up real good…the black in thaht suit matches yer eyes perfectly." She responded as he pulled out her chair to sit down.

"Y' like cheri?" Remy commented wiggling his eyebrows playfully. "I've got two more suits jus' like dis."

She laughed… "Don' push ya luck."

"Remy don' need luck…he's got y'."

"This is beautiful…where evah did yah manage t' get a reservation at a beautiful place like this sugah?"

"Trus' me…Remy have contacts…" He smiled at her wittingly as a waiter came by with the first part of their meal. "Hope y' don' mind. I already ordered a three course meal."

"Ah'm fine wit' thaht. Oh…by the way…Logan's invited yah t' a pool tournament at the mansion tomorrow…s' thaht means you an' him are gonna get aquainted."

"Y' mean dat heavily built Canadian?"

"Yeah, thaht's Logan. Don' tell him Ah told y' this but…he may look rough around tha edges but when it comes to family and friends he's a softy. But take my warnin' on this on' sugah. Don' get on his bad side or yah'll be eatin' metal every single day o' yer lahfe."

He gulped. "Remy'll take dat int' consideration."

Dinner was over and it was way past dark. They were just listening to some classical music playing as they continued to talk. Just sitting there under the moon light talking about their favorite things, some things about their pasts…and about their personalities.

"Would yah like t' dance once Remy fo' we have t' draw this date t' a close?"

"Remy'd be honored Cheri."

They walked over to a clearing on the balcony as a slow and easy rhythm started and they started to sway to the music. (It's Your Love: Tim McGraw)

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXxx

"Cheri…"

"Mmm?"

"It's your love…" Remy started to sing along…

Then Rogue joined him.

Meeting at the Mansion…

Remy still had an uneasy feeling about this Logan character. After all he was the one that almost broke his shoulder when he first met Rogue. It was a scary thought. He still wondered what she meant by him eating metal…though he really didn't want to find out.

Walking up to the gate with her felt comforting…she wanted him to meet the inhabitants of the mansion along with Charles Xavier. He didn't sound too bad…it was still Logan he was worried about. They made their way down the long hallway into the professors office. It as quaint and very well kept.

"Please Remy, sit. You're a guest here. Welcome to The School For Gifted Youngsters. I'm Charles Xavier." He raised his hand.

Remy shook it and responded. "Well t'ank y'. I'm honored t' meet y'."

"Well since you're new here would you like a tour?"

Anyt'ing t' keep me from Logan a little while longer. He thought briefly and smiled with a nod.

"Very well…this way please."

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

Remy had a grand tour of the mansion and all of its secrets…he was offered a room if he wished to stay and for Rogue he just might. The tour was drawing to a close as he was finally taken to the media room where across from the green-felted pool table stood the burly Canadian holding a pool cue in one hand and a cigar in the other.

"Glad ya could make it Cajun…grab a cue…you're gonna break." He said with a sly smile taking a big drag off the cigar.

"Okay homme." Gambit said reaching for the cue on the shelf next to Logan.

"Ah'll leave yah boys alone t' chat. Logan…Behave yoahself." Rogue smiled as she walked down the hall talking to Ororo.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

"S' y' like Rogue eh?" Logan finally broke the silence while Remy was lining up his shot around the eight ball.

"Oui…Remy like de belle femme." He responded aiming for the left center pocket. After some brief relaxation he finally took the shot knocking the eight ball of the seven ball and into the desired pocket.

"Listen Gumbo…cuz I'm only gonna say this once." He began as he watched Remy line up to hit the seven ball in the left corner pocket. "Rogue is like a daughter t' me. I just witnessed her heartbreak with her old boyfriend. I ain't gonna say who because it would be an invasion o' her privacy. Fo' some reason she seems t' like ya a lot an' I'm warnin' ya Cajun. Yah hurt her an' I'll come after ya and castrate ya. Are we clear?"

After the final sentence hit Remy's ears he accidentally used too much power and shot the cue ball off the table breaking his beer bottle on the table beside it. He looked up at Logan in awe as he saw three metal knives pop out of his right hand. Remy gulped and backed away.

"Right now…however…Cajun yer on my good side. Yah make her happy an' it's the happiest she's been in a while s' don' screw up." He chuckled raw… "Because if ya do, besides being castrated ya'll be eatin' metal too."

Taking a few sips out of his beer he picked the cue ball off the floor and placed it on the table. He then took the triangle and reset the table. "Yer alright Cajun. Now hurry up and break s' we can start another game."

Questions…

Rogue and Remy lay together on the couch watching television after a brief dinner at the mansion. Remy was still deciphering whether or not he should actually stay at the mansion. There were too many people, but he thought that if Rogue was there it would be all worth the hassle. He and the professor talked for days about his powers…training in the Danger Room…and running tests to see the full strength and capabilities of his powers. Then there was Rogue…the professor was quite interested in how that he could touch her without being drained of life force. Remy understood how…but the professor did not.

They continued to sit on the couch and just stare blankly into the T.V. screen. Remy was getting bored so he pulled out a deck of cards and started shuffling nonchalantly. Rogue looked at him. How nimble he was with those cards and how easily that he manipulated them from one hand to the other. Then as he was in the middle of a bridge shuffle Logan came from behind and started to speak.

"Hey Rogue, Cajun…I'm bored as h#. Why don' we go play some pool."

Remy looked up at him and smiled brightly. "D'accord…y' buyin' de beer homme?"

"Guess so…"

"Den Remy in. How bout you cherie?"

"Ah'll go…sounds like fun t' me sugah." Rogue smiled as she wrapped her arms around him.

XXXXXXXXXXXx

It was about an hour or so later and the score was Gambit three, Wolverine four, and Rogue six. She turned around to face them as she aimed for the six ball and missed.

"Are yall sure yah ain' lettin' me win?" She shrugged.

"No, cherie…I don' let people win."

"Nah Cajun. Ya jus' seem distracted." Logan grunted. "Sides…y' pretty good at pool conciderin' what yer payin' attention t' more."

Rogue and Logan let out a soft chuckle.

"It's yer shot anyhow Gumbo." He commented taking a deep drag of his cigar.

Gambit lined up behind the five ball and took a look at the seven ball as well. He took a shot off the eight ball hitting the five and seven into the left corner pocket. Then he hit the eight ball into the right center, followed by the six into the right corner. The table had been cleared.

"S' dat's four fo' me now homme." Remy chuckled and looked at Rogue to find she was equally amused. Just then her phone rang.

"Hello? Oh Hi professor whaht's up?" She sighed walking into a corner. Just then Logan came beside Gambit.

"K Gumbo… I reset the table…Ya wanna take first shot?"

"Fine." Was Gambit's only response as he lined up the cue ball to break sending the one and five ball into the left center pocket. He aimed for the seven and missed.

Logan then came around the table and bounced the seven off the six into the right corner…then he took the eight against the six and hit it into the right center and then the three ball he missed setting Remy back to line up and get the three in and then the two.

Rogue walked over then and started a conversation with Remy. "The professor wants us back at the mansion. He says that he needs some answers."

"About what cherie?"

"There was an attack on the mansion. Non mutants…they wanted you Remy."

"Merde."

XXXXXXXXXXXXXx

Remy had been having trouble with the Assassins' Guild for a while now. That's why he was getting away…that and he didn't want to marry Belladonna. She was probably one of the reasons why the assassins were up here. He thought he had hidden himself well…then he remembered there were contacts just about everywhere…one must have seen him. Now they wanted answers.

XXXXXXXXXXx

Gambit now stood in front of the professor and his group of X-Men looking at him sternly as he began to speak. "I want to know the reason why these people came looking for you, Lebeau."

"Remy's family is the T'ieves' Guild, our rivals are de Assassins' Guild. I was forced out because of an arranged marriage. Plus Julian didn' wan me an' his sister Belladonna t' get married anyhow. He tried t' kill me an' I still don' know if I killed him or if he got away. Belladonna got mad at Remy, said a lotta terrible t'ings t' him. I didn' wanna go back s' I ran away…Now I t'ink she got de whole Assassins' Guild out lookin' fo' me. Bella became s' obsessed wid me…She'd do anyt'ing t' get me back under de knife." Remy responded with his head down ashamed.

"Well how did they know you were here?" The professor queried.

"Because all T'ieves' and Assassins' have contacts. Dey must've seen Remy out wid Rogue."

"Cajun…" Logan started. "Yer a criminal!"

"Non, not anymore. Remy quit dat life. I was adopted int' dat family. He t'ought he had people dat loved him. He don'."

"Remy…Ah love you." Rogue spoke up.

"I know cherie…and I love you too."

Answers…Part one

Remy just stayed in the office adjacent from the Danger Room…waiting on how they were going to pass judgment on him. He was very curious as to how they were going to deal with him. Sure he still had the talent of a thief, but he had no interest in it anymore seeing as how it tore people apart and how it tore his family apart. He was a child when it happened and he really didn't know any better.

A while later Xavier emerged from the room and started to speak to Gambit. "A lot of people here support my decision of letting you stay on with the X-Men. LeBeau…I don't feel comfortable with your past actions…I'm not going to lie. Though it seems that you've been trying to get away from this life for so long that I can't ignore your need for a place to stay. They've ransacked your apartment, Remy. Logan was just there. He doesn't like this…but right now he's willing to deal since you have attached yourself to Rogue."

"Remy don' know wut t' say really. He can' go no where wit'out bein' followed by a bunch o' assassins'. Dis ain't yo' fight. Remy'll take care o' it." Gambit sighed as he started to get up.

"This may be your fight Gambit. I'm not going to say it isn't. But there are some things to consider…we want to help you in any way you can to break the ties to your family. You miss being there, but you don't miss the judgment and heartbreak do you?"

"Non, Remy don'. He misses de only place he call home, but he don' miss de inhabitants o' it." He sighed.

"Very well…I'll assemble a small group to accompany you. Do be careful Remy."

With that the professor exited while Remy just stood in shock. He didn't think that they'd understand what he was going through. He thought that they would immediately tell him to get lost or jump off a cliff. He expected Logan to tear him limb from limb. Honestly he didn't care…he wasn't going back to the Guilds no matter how hard they tried to bring him back. He had quit that life and wasn't going to begin it again. Remy was going to prove once and for all that he was better than them…

Gambit walked into the office of Xavier again to meet his supporting team. Iceman, Wolverine, Rogue, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Nightcrawler. They had their introductions and Remy took a brief look at Rogue when Xavier had introduced Bobby Drake (Iceman). There was a certain hurt in her eyes that he picked up…then a pain shot through his head…her pain. Dis mus' be de homme who hurt Roguey so badly. He thought to himself.

After the briefing was over they came outside quickly to run their post…searching for evidence around the mansion to find out how they had entered and how much they knew about the mansion. It turned out they knew very little…just knew where it was located. The people who got inside were from the Thieves' Guild because they avoided every obstacle…

"Remy t'ink dat he go alone." He sighed. "It be nice o' y' guys t' come wid, but dis is somet'in' I have t' face alone. I jus' met y' guys…I don' need y' t' be pulled under de knife wid me."

"Remy…Ah ain' goin' no where….an' neither is any body else. We're here t' help yah. An' thaht's exactly what we're gonna do! It may not be our fight but, yah need help." Rogue sighed.

"She's right Cajun… 'sides…it's been a while since I've been able t' bust some heads. S' I'm already in t' do some thrashin'. We may not be on good terms at the present…but you'll get yer payback later." Logan gave a hushed grunt and a small smirk-like grin.

It was beyond dark, overcast, and very chilly. Remy was standing watch to see a group of assassins' piled around a map in a dark ally. They were trying to see which way would be best to find him. Gambit then signaled them to stand behind him and peer around the corner. He pulled a mirror out of one of his pockets in his trench coat. He held it ever so slightly over the edge of the building without being noticed…he watched the men pocket the map and sharpen their knives. They had then begun to load their guns when Remy popped up behind them and penned two to a wall and knocking the third one out.

"Well…we got a couple o' swamp critters dat have been away from home too long." Remy smiled as his eyes gave a demon like flash.

"Yer one t' talk LeBeau…Ya've been missin' fo' two years!"

"Silence!" Remy shouted. "Now I'm de one dat be askin' de questions!"

"Y'll get not'ing out o' me!" The man on the right shouted at him.

"We'll see about dat homme. I could jus' stand here all day, seein' dat I'm a patient man…but if I hand y' over t' mon friend over here, see he ain' s' patient." He began as Logan walked towards the two assassins' with his claws extended. "S' dis is yo' last chance…eit'er tell me wut y' know, or y'll be dealin' wid him."

"We work for Bella…she said dat if we didn' find yo', it was our heads!"

"Where is she now?"

"She in a suit, uptown. One o' dose fancy hotels. She stay up dere all day an' we do all o' de work." The man on the left shouted as the man on the right elbowed him in the stomach.

"Well…t'anks… Here y' go Wolverine…I know y' been waitin' fo' a scrap…right mon ami?"

"Don' mind if I do Cajun!"

After the beating Remy sat down on the curb and Rogue cuddled up behind him as he pulled a black book and his cell phone from one of his pockets. He skimmed through the book very quickly to find someone who still owed him a favor and that still lived in this area.

"Whaht yah doin' now Remy?" Rogue asked in a soft voice.

"Findin' somebody who still owe Remy a favor. Remy knew dat Bella was still tryin' t' brin' me back t' de Guilds. Dat life ain' wut Remy wan' anymore." He sighed. "I gotta find a contact dat still be in de New York area…dat way I can fin' out where she is an' finally end dis mess once an' fo' all."

"What do yah mean sugah?"

"Remy was supposed t' marry Bella…It was supposed t' be a peace between de guilds. At first Remy love Bella…I couldn't say it t'ough…because I was young an' I didn' really know any better…plus I promised myself dat I only say it when I mean it. Anyhow de weddin' day came an' we were standin' at de alter…Remy still didn' wanna go t'rough wid it…dat when her brot'er came in, Julian, an' he tried t' kill Remy…I didn' wanna fight jus' leave. T'ough he attacked me an' I dunno if I killed him or what. Bella den got real mad at me…she tol' me dat she never loved me, an' dat she never wanted t' see me again. My fat'er banished me…and den a whole not'er fight began in de guilds. Dey blame it all on me…" He stopped still hanging his head low waiting for her to slap him hard across the face in disgust, then get up and leave…but she didn't. He felt her fingers on his chin lifting his head to meet hers.

There were tears in her eyes…of understanding. "Remy…Ah know what it's like t' be used by the ones yah think are yo' family. They don' care about yah…" She sighed. "Continue with yo' story."

"S' Remy run away…he tired o' bein' a t'ief. Tired o' bein' used." He sighed again. "Den dey try t' brin' me back but I'm on de next train outta de area. I've spent two years tryin' t' get away from de guild. I don' wan' dat life back…now Remy find y' an' he don' want t' put yo' life in de danger dat is in. It wouldn' be fair. I didn' want dis t' happen."

Rogue embraced him as he came to her embrace. "Ah…know how if feels t' be used by de ones dat say dat dey love you."

There was a contact that claimed Bella was in the upper part of New York in a very big hotel. Remy and the rest of the group snuck in through a back entrance and found Bella's room…Well Logan found it by finding her scent. They kicked the door in to find Bella in her bath robe and a man asleep in her bed.

"S' Mon Amour…y' decided t' show?" Bella said trying to rush to Remy's embrace.

Jean put a force-field around them all restricting Bella from contact. "Non, Remy didn' come back t' re-join de guilds. Remy not apart o' dat life…Remy never goin' back. He found people who care about him…dey don' want t' use him…jus' like y' did…jus' like my family did…Remy had enough."

"But we were supposed t' be married Remy." Bella pouted.

"Never…it wasn' 'bout love Bella…Don' y' get it? I don' want not'ing t' do wid de guilds anymore!...I got out!" In his anger he charged a handful of cards and his eyes started t' glow with intensity. Bella glared into these eyes and winced at their fiery depths. They were glossed over with flame like illusions…she stood back and saw the real reason why Remy LeBeau was called Le Diable Blanc. Rogue stood beside him and looked at the anger on his face…saw his eyes but didn't flinch…just looked at the very beautiful shifting in his eyes…he finally let his anger slip away and un-charged the card and slipped it back into his duster. "We've been t'rough fo' years Bella…I'm free an' I ain't turnin' back!"

Answers Part 2…

A few days had passed since their meeting with Belladonna. Remy had isolated himself outside and in his room…trying to process everything that had happened within the past few days. Logan had given Remy a very nice black eye and then an apology for being so tough on him earlier. So a black eye and a beer were part of his afternoon. Rogue, he felt, was worried and she wanted to talk to him…but when she tried to the professor wanted to talk to her.

It was then she took one last look at Gambit and then walked the hallway to see the professor.

"Rogue…" He began as she took a seat. "I'd like to let you know a few things about Remy. He's a very different type of mutant. I've never seen someone like him before. Gambit's unique…so his codename entails. He's able to block me from his mind and he's also able to touch you without being absorbed by your powers. We, however, may have found the answer to this. His mutant compounds are meant to block off and cancel certain physical attributes. As in mutant powers he's able to counter people who want to search through his mind to find answers. That's how he's able to block me and Jean, and any other psychic out there who would want to invade his minds eye."

Rogue just stared at him for a minute and let it all sink in. Her mind wandered about how the first time they had touched that she didn't feel her drain him. Was he her equal?

Her thoughts were broken when Xavier began to speak again. "He is like a balance to your genetic mutations code. He can counter your powers so that there is no taking away from his life force and memories. Hanks still trying to decode his own genetics to find out what other powers he may hold besides kinetic and empathic abilities. He's a very unique individual and you both seem to understand each other perfectly. When I have better results and more information…I'll call you both to explain the news."

After her conversation that seemed like an eternity…she made her way out to the spot Gambit always hid…on the roof. She thrust herself up and walked to sit beside him. "Hey sug…" She began holding out a beer for him. "Need a little company?"

Remy nodded and she sat down beside him as he took the beer. "Remy drank t' much already cherie…but I appreciate de offer." He sighed and continued. "T'anks fo' de company."

She looked at the side of his face to see a very deep shade of blue and purple surrounding his left eye. "Logan got a hold o' yah?"

"Oui…" He stated nonchalantly as she held it in her hand. "Lucky he didn' tear dis Cajun apart. He tol' me dat since I made y' happy he was only gonna give me a warnin'. His metal fists don' have any give Rogue."

"At least yah didn' do anythin' major sugah." She smiled and embraced him. "Besides Ah'm still here fo' yah…yah gonna be okay Cajun?"

"Yeah, Remy'll be alright. He jus' tryin' t' figure out wut he gonna do if de assassins' keep comin' after him. Dat's all."

She turned his head to meet hers. "Ah'm always gonna be with yah no mattah what. Sugah, yah ain' gonna get rid o' meh so easily."

Rogue kissed him gently and he followed her lips with a very deep passion. It made him feel better inside that he actually did have someone in his life that meant something more than just a fling. That person was Rogue…

The kiss slightly broke for a few moments as she looked into his very beautiful velvet eyes. "Remy…"

"Oui?"

She kissed him again as they lay encased on the roof under the stars with grace he picked her up and they headed to his room…

Morning came quickly as a few spots of sunshine came through the curtains on at the balcony window. At his side Rogue still lay entwined in his embrace…her beautiful hair was slightly disheveled and she was wearing his shirt from last night. He smiled as he twirled a few strands of her white hair and she began to stir. She clasped hold of Remy tighter and opened her eyes slightly.

"Hey Cajun…" She smiled sweetly. "Did yah have a good night?"

"Better dan wut it's been fo' de last few days." He replied kissing her gently. "Remy done enough t'inkin' t'ough about de professors offer."

"Oh?"

"Remy gonna join. I wanna be wit' y' Rogue. I love you an' not'ing gonna change dat. I don' wanna put y' life in danger but it seems like y' ain' goin' no where. Remy gonna stay."

Rogue smiled and kissed his lips passionately. They then took refuge back onto the bed breathing heavily between kisses.

Answers Part 3…

Remy had been in the professors office and in the danger room…almost all day. He was tired out from all of the experiments and medical work that he just wanted to collapse. It had been this way for the past three days. Though he did figure out some new things about himself that he hadn't known before. Like his empathic ability was stronger than he thought, he was connected to Rogue almost instantly, and he was her equal…her opposite charge. That's why they could touch. Gambit knew in a way that he could touch her because of one of his powers. But which one he was uncertain. Until the professor started to talk about mental and psychic shields. Remy had quite a few of them. They had expanded since his power manifested. He just didn't notice the change.

Now Remy lay flat on the couch with a cool compress to his head and the back of his neck. Rogue walked in and saw him laying there trying to get some sleep. She walked up and kneeled beside him.

"Yah okay sugah?" She whispered sweetly.

"Conciderin' dat Remy hurt in places dat he didn' know he had…yeah…Remy jus' peachy." He stated nonchalantly but in a playful way.

"Well then swamp rat. We should get yah cleaned up and might as well have a little fun while we're up to it. What do yah think?"

"Uggg…Cherie…any ot'er night I'd hop t' it. But right now…Remy got a real bad headache, neck ache, back ache…jus' any kind o' ache." Remy replied.

"Then lift up…"

He didn't move…but she lifted him up with ease and removed the ice pack behind his neck…she started going to work on his tense and sore muscles as he relaxed into her warmth… Rogue was still kneading his sore back when Jean walked in.

"Hi…Um the professor asked me to give you your test results and he expects you in Hanks lab early tomorrow. That's when you'll get your powers examination."

Gambit sighed heavily as he took the cream colored folder out of the red-heads hand. He was still enjoying the feel of Rogue tending to his tired body…her hands were now working on his neck again. He groaned a little bit…then started to read the notes Xavier wrote.

"Well Sugah…what's it say?"

"Jus' de…basics…" Remy replied between relieved moans. "Jus' basically…says dat…we able t' touch because I be yo' opposite. See I keep people out an' y' try t' bring people in." He leaned back into her warmth. "Remy want t' take a shower now an' go t' bed."

"Would y' like me t' accompany yah?" She smiled eagerly.

Remy just smiled and that was all the answer she needed.

The next day was a little less painful. He didn't need to do a whole lot of exercise, just let Hank do all the work. Blood tests, DNA scans…basic stuff. The only thing he really had to do was charge a few cards and let him examine the full strength of his kinetic energy.

"Well your DNA mutation sequence is quite interesting Mr. LeBeau." Hank began.

"Please…we of de same people. Remy."

"Well then Remy…I have to say that you are a very unique individual. Xavier says this as well…through all of your mental shields and past your empathy…you might even be developing some psychic abilities. Though this cannot be certain." Beast continued. "You do have though, a special bond with Rogue…because of your empathy. You can feel what she feels almost instantly…without having to concentrate or lower your shields. This makes you less vulnerable…which is quite odd indeed."

Remy just gave him a questioning look. "Wut?"

"You are a developing mutant Remy…Oh…if you ever do feel like you're gaining psychic abilities…talk to the professor, he will help you out." He smiled. "That's all the tests…welcome aboard."

They shook hands as then Remy took his leave from the medical ward.

A Winding Road to No Where Part 1…

Remy and Rogue were out on an extravagant dinner…she looked heavenly…a very deep black dress with a single red rose behind her ear…the colors matching his eyes so wonderfully. Her eyes remained that same beautiful hue of green and a very deep smile played on her features…she was radiant…and he was still deeply in love with her. The time he spent with her told him enough…told him all he needed to know about his decision.

Rogue looked across the table at Remy. His attire was magnificent. The red in his suit matched his velvet eyes which he left uncovered just for her…the eyes that she loved to stare into…the eyes that showed absolute beauty…his smile was wide and his hair was kept down the way she wanted it…the way that she wished it to be always. Her heart was pounding away in her chest from her nervousness. She hadn't been nervous when he took her out before but this time something tugged at her heart strings when she saw him there with a very nervous look in his eyes…

His heart thumped in his chest as he reached in his pocket…he took a few sips of wine to moisten his throat to try and speak to her…

She watched his motions as he got closer to her lifted her hand and kneeled down in front of her.

"Rogue…" He began. "I've been t'inkin' a lot lately. How much dat y' mean t' me. Cherie…I love you…more dan anyt'ing in dis world. I can't tell y' wid words how much dat is. Baby when I first saw y' my heart skipped a beat…y' made me feel different…y' made me wan' t' change who I was…all wid dat perfect smile and yo' laughter…I wan' y' t' see de way I love y' fo' de rest o' time. Will y' be my wife cherie?"

At those last words her eyes swelled with tears…she leaned into him and kissed his lips passionately…she pulled back and smiled at him. "Fo'ever Remy…Ah'll always love you."

"Je t'aime." Remy breathed as he slipped the ring on her finger…

Belladonna had just came back to a place within the main house of the Thieves Guild. She was very unhappy, and she was planning on getting a little slice of revenge. Upon her entry of the LeBeau manor, her pace slackened as she entered his office. Jean-Luc saw the anger in her eyes and he consented to hearing her proposition…

"Remy's got himself a new femme." Bella sneered. "We need t' get dis femme and brin' her here…"

"Wut makes y' t'ink dat he care about dis woman?" Jean-Luc answered coldly…knowing the rage he was feeling being hurt by his own sons actions. "Remy cares about no woman."

"He still needs t' be taugh' a lesson. A lesson dat he won' fo'get t' easily." Her eyes caught a very distinct fire. "Remy LeBeau is goin' t' get dese guilds back t'get'er, or he'll be forced to see de death o' dis femme."

VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVv

After a walk through the park they had stopped to stare at a very beautiful lake view…everything was so beautiful that words couldn't explain the effects of the scenery around them. Remy sat down on the dock and let his legs dangle from the edge…Rogue followed suit behind him leaning into his embrace.

A few men were watching the couple as they held weapons…over a microphone they were silently listening to instructions…

"Get de girl…don' hurt Gambit…tranquilize him if y' need t'…he needs t' be taught a lesson."

With that men encircled the couple from all sides…shots were fired and then Rogue was bound and gagged.
"We've got her boss…" One of the men responded into the communicator. "What next?"

"I have a man waitin' fo' her at de airport. Take her dere an' drop her off wid de contact. Stay an' make sure dat he's out an' make sure dat y' not followed."

"Check…out."

Rustled footsteps on the dry leaves were all that was heard…Remy lay on the edge of the dock plastered face down. He couldn't hear, feel, he wasn't even conscious. All he could remember was that he was with Rogue.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

Hours later Rogue awakens in the darkness…she can't see and her hands are bound behind her…she tries to stand but she finds out in her senses that she's tied to a chair. (Jus' mah luck…) She sighs deeply and returns to her previous state before a blindfold is removed from her eyes. She's now staring at a slightly older man…his features are very defined and his accent thick as she can finally hear what he was sayin'. She knew exactly where she was…New Orleans.

"S' y' de femme my son found? Y' jus' anot'er fling I suppose?" Rogue looked down at the floor as he pulled her head back up.

"Non, don' get discouraged…if he really cares fo' y' I wanna see him suffer!" Came a female voice from behind him. Rogue turned her head to see two sharp blue eyes filled with hatred…with blonde hair, she was dressed like she was ready for battle. "Y' be de reason why Remy ain' come back t' get married…well y'll be de reason he marries me."

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

Remy opened his eyes to find he was face down on the dock. (When did dis happen? Rogue cherie?)

"Rogue? Cheire? Where are you!" Gambit lifted himself off of the dock only to find a very bad headache and stinging nausea. He pushed it aside as he ran towards the mansion.

He ran through the doors and up the stairs to his room…he grabbed his coat and put on his uniform ready for a battle when Logan approached him…he was standing in the kitchen when he saw Remy fly right past without as much as a hello and he didn't have Rogue with him…

"Cajun? What in the flamin' is goin' on here?" Logan demanded as he saw the tall Cajun grab several packs of playing cards and make sure his bo staff worked properly before putting it into his pocket.

"Dey got Rogue…Remy shoulda seen it comin'." He sighed bitterly with disgust. He hated himself that he let them take her. "I knew dat somet'ing like dis would happen. Bella is behind dis…I know it. She will stop at not'ing till she brin's me back under de knife wid de guilds."

"Slow down Cajun." Logan started.

"Can't slow down…dey got her an' Remy gotta go get her."

"It's a trap Remy!"

He stopped…Logan had never called him by his name…he'd always called him by Gumbo, Cajun, or Gambit…never Remy…not until now.

Logan looked into his eyes…in their dark depths he saw worry, confusion, hatred, and sorrow… "If yer goin' out there then yer gonna need all the help ya can get. I'm goin' with ya Remy. Ya can't do this alone."

Remy saw the look in Logan's eyes as he held out his hand. "D'accord." Was his only response as Logan shook his hand and they left the room together.

Rogue was still stuck in the basement tied to a chair with only Jean-Luc as her company. He studied her wondering what in the world that she meant to Remy. His son never fell in love before…and he thought that this time wasn't any different. That is until he saw the look in her green eyes. He saw sadness there…and he saw love in their emerald depths too.

"S' how long have y' known my pathetic excuse fo' a son?"

"Almost a year." She replied weakly. "An' fo' yo' info'mation he's not pathetic."

"Whatever." Jean-Luc just sat there. "Almost a year huh? Didn' think Remy could hold on t' a femme dat long."

"What do yah mean by thaht?"

"Remy's always been disloyal. He hasn't ever had a girl for more than a day. I thought that y' knew Remy was a charmer." He smiled quickly at his trick.

Rogue just looked up at him in disgust. "Ah know what kind o' a man Remy was. Ah know thaht he did those thin's. But thaht's the past. He's changed since then."

He just exhaled sharply. "Hah! That boy? Change? He'd chase any femme dat walks de earth."

"Ah know what yo' tryin' t' do. An' Ah hate t' burst yo' bubble but it ain' workin'." She hissed at him (How could this man be Remy's fathah? He's a cruel man. Kidnappin' me ta spite his son.)

Logan and Remy were on a train headed for New Orleans…Logan had broke the silence and walked over to Gambit and put a hand on his shoulder. He smelt his fear, and his nervousness. "We'll get her back."

"I don' know dat. Remy jus hope dat dey aren' doin' anyt'ing t' her." Remy stood there and wiped his eyes where solitary tears fell. (I'll find y' Rogue…an' I'll make her pay!)

Rogue was still in her bounds and Jean-Luc wasn't easing any tension. Bella just entered and looked at Rogue in disgust. She drew her knife and held it to her throat. "Yo' lucky dat I'm holdin' out fo' dat Cajun…I wan' him t' see y' suffer…I wan' him t' remember de day dat he crossed me."

Her emerald eyes were closed at that point…Bella withdrew the knife from her throat as she gulped. Her nightmares were just beginning.

She had fallen asleep in that uncomfortable position and she was awoken by the smell of food. Jean-Luc held a plate in front of her.

"What's this a peace offerin'?"

"Nah…jus' t'ought y' might be hungry."

"A little."

He fed her and she didn't say thank you. After all…he and Bella were the ones who put her in this mess.

Wolverine and Remy had been off the train for over an hour. Logan had found Rogue's scent and was following it to Remy's old house.

"That's where she is?"

Gambit nodded. "Oui." He sunk his head low. "I wouldn' o' t'ought dat mon pere would sink s' low as t' capture de woman I love."

"Well Remy…whaddya suppose we do?" Logan shrugged.

"We have t' wait till nightfall. Dat way we can slip in undetected."

"Whaddya wan' me t' do?"

"I wan' y' t' trace her scent…fin' out where dey keepin' her. Y' can see in de dark righ' mon ami?"

Logan nodded once. "Piece o' cake Cajun."

Jean-Luc had been silent since breakfast. He hadn't spoke a word to Rogue. She kind of liked the silence…but in another way she didn't. Finally he broke it when he saw the ring on her finger.

"Remy didn' give y' dat did he?." He asked puzzled.

She nodded once looking into his eyes that weren't filled with cold anger anymore.

"Didn' t'ink my son wan'ed t' settle down."

She turned away from him and looked at some pictures. Remy was just a child in all of them…he didn't look very happy. His eyes were always hidden, and in some of the pictures no matter how big a smile he held…she could still see his pain.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXx

Night fell quickly as Wolverine and Gambit took to their posts outside of the house. Logan looked down… "Looks like it's unguarded Remy." He sniffed again. "They took her this way."

"Still homme…we'd better be careful. Don' know who dey placed outside fo' de security."

"I hear ya." SNIKT.

They treaded softly and made their way to the back of the building. Logan sniffed the air with his trained senses and found they had taken her inside. He quickly heard footfall and disposed of the guards…both of them assassins. He continued to sniff the air and dispose of assassins along the way. He had told Gambit to hold his cards because they would give away their position upon explosion. Their main element was surprise and they didn't need to risk being found.

Jean had left the basement hours ago…working his way into the office. Two solitary guards stood by the door to keep watch. Racked with grief he had returned by her side. Slowly regretting his decision with each passing moment. He had shared conversations with Rogue and found out things about his son that he had never thought possible. In his head he could tell that his son actually did change. He just had to see it for himself.

Logan and Remy had quietly found their way to where Rogue was being held. Wolverine turned to face his red and black orbs. "She's in there."

Remy nodded once as Logan took out the two guards and slowly opened the door… they peered down to see Bella standing next to Rogue with Jean-Luc at her side. "Soon…Remy'll come an' den he'll see y' suffer."

Remy and Logan charged down the stairs towards Rogue and Belladonna took the opportunity to welcome them. "Hello…I see dat y' showed up like I knew dat y' would. Are y' ready t' see y' little hussy dat y' picked up die?"

Gambit stopped dead in his tracks looking Bella straight in the eye as she held a revolver to Rogue's temple. Just then Jean-Luc saw the look in Remy's eyes. The look of sorrow, love, and anguish as he Remy fell to his knees. He really had changed. And it was now that he saw it.

"S' now it all comes out. Y' do have a soft spot fo' dis femme. Y' gonna watch her die den…nice an' slow." She threw down the gun and pulled out a long, sharp knife. She held it against Rogue's neck getting ready to draw blood when Jean-Luck forced her out of the way and held her down…he took the revolver and hit her across the head with it…knocking her out.

He then cut Rogue loose. "Go…Now!"

Remy took one last look at his father and then disappeared with Logan and Rogue closely behind him.

Bella had awakened and cursed out Jean-Luc. Then she got on a communicator and started to jabber away…

A Winding Road to No Where Part 2…

Logan and Rogue were quickly following behind Remy as they ran through an empty hall. His legs were starting to feel fatigued from dodging countless assassins along the way. He had taken out quite a few but they just kept coming.

Belladonna was on the communicator to the guards outside. "I don' care …y' can take dem out! It be t'ree 'gainst all o' y'! Brin' in de big weapons!"

Anger filling her she turned towards Jean-Luc and drew her knife. "Dis'll be de last time dis family crossed me!"

She had pinned him against the rooms wall and jammed the knife into his left shoulder so he couldn't move. "Y'll die slowly…an' if y' live…y'll see yo' dead son!"

Jean-Luc watched her exit very quickly then turned to his shoulder stuck to the wal with a long dagger. The pain was unbearable. He used his free arm to quickly remove himself from the wall and the dagger from his shoulder. His eyes closed and his legs buckled. Fresh blood coated his shirt as he removed it. Looking at the gaping wound he tied it with his shirt, picked up the dagger, and headed for the outside.

The group had made it to the outside only to be surrounded by over 50 men. Remy stood between them and Rogue holding a deck of cards clenched in each hand charging them fully.

"Logan…Get her outta here." Gambit ordered quickly.

"Not a chance Gumbo. Leave ya without back up…No…I'm stayin'."

"Sugah…Ah'm not leavin'. Where evah you go Ah go."

The assassins grew closer as Logan extended his claws. Bella appeared from the center… "If I can't have y' no one can!"

After those words Remy, Logan, and Rogue were forced to fight their way out. After gutting several enemies, Rogue came behind Wolverine, grabbed two machine guns, and opened fire. Most of the men were down except for five…a shot was heard and Gambit fell…looking back the shot came from Belladonna. Ignoring the pain in his side he rose charging up a deck and scattering them taking out the rest of the assassins. He fell again and grasped his side.

"REMY!" Just then a gun cocked behind her.

"Y' take one step an' y' dead!" Bella sneered.

Then suddenly the gun was knocked out of her hand and she fell to the ground on her knees. "Y' make on' move an' I slit de throat…clear?"

Remy looked up as Rogue helped him to his feet…He saw his father get Bella in a sleeper hold…she was then out cold on the ground as he fell to his knees and clutched his shoulder.

"I'm sorry son…" He winced. "…I didn' know dat she meant dat much t' y'."

"Dis ain' gonna be easy t' fo'give."
