Chapter One… Darkness Falls
A lonely night…it was like any other for this man. Always wanting more out of life because from the day he was born…he was always cast aside. Now he lived with a group of thieves, ones that adopted him into the family no less. But could he call this his family? That was the only question that lingered in his head. He had been set up with a job…a heist. Something he had to complete to prove his worth. That's all he did. Prove his worth by his powers and not by his heart. It was going to be a long night for this man.
Stuck in the shadows he was. Tall…lean…and muscular. His face looked as it was carved from stone…the perfection to detail. His body was lean, not too muscular, but not to thin either. His smile lit up a room…and his eyes were hypnotizing. Right now they were covered by sunglasses. He hid them because they gave away who he really was.
The wind danced from the east giving the night a cool chill. His eyes still focused on his objective as the shades came off. It was dark enough to encase himself in the shadows. His eyes glowed in the darkness…they were red. The deepest red imaginable…encased in the deepest of black. They shimmered through the darkness giving off a stable glow.
His uniform was black, leather and tight…showing off his muscles, but loose enough to give him freedom of motion. A trench coat settled on top of it holding belongings and several other things. He pulled out a cigarette and lit the tip with his finger…in actuality he was thinking about quitting but never got to it. The man continued to glare towards the darkness as he saw his objective.
Out of the shadows he came and bumped into the two men in front of him. Replacing a suitcase with another. The first had valuables in it…the other did not.
"Hey watch where yer goin'!" One of the men shouted and then they continued their conversation.
Without hesitation he came back into the shadows and met another man. "Did you get what I asked for?"
"Oui." His eyes gleamed. "Now Gambit owes y' not'ing more."
Opening the suitcase…the figure sighed. "You're a free man LeBeau. Now get out of my sight before I change my mind."
The man known as Gambit nodded and walked back into the shadows. Going back to his home was out of the question, he knew. He'd been away from his home town for months. A wedding was the cause. An arranged wedding. It hurt to know that he thought he loved someone and it turned out to be a hoax all along. He stood in the corner and looked down pulling out a deck of cards. Where was he going to stay? He shuffled the cards and focused on a near-by train car and hitched it. He was going as far as the train could take him.

The mansion was crowded this year. All new students. Rogue stood in the corner…her brown hair was tied back leaving the white stripes to encase her face neatly. Her green eyes focused on the outside. Bobby came behind her and just looked where she was looking. They had another fight…two nights ago. It wasn't easy for him being with her when they couldn't touch. Her curse, as she called it, kept her from doing the things she would love to do. Everything that she wished…couldn't be done.
"Rogue…we need to talk." Bobby stated as she turned around.
"Obviously we don'. Bobby Ah like you. But Ah can't keep this up. Yah keep thinkin' thaht every tahme yah screw up thaht Ah'm goin' t' let yah come back like nothin's happened. Nothin's the same Bobby. Never will be. Ah don' feel that way anymore. Ah thought Ah did…but Ah jus' don'."
"This is about Logan isn't it?" He butted in.
"NO! It's not about him. It has nothin' t' do with him. He's more lahke mah fathah. It's not him in this. And Ah thought that Yah liked me. Yah flinch jus' as much as everybody else does. Thaht's why Ah'm better off alone. Everyone's afraida meh." She sighed turning away and starting to walk up the stairs. "Ah suggest yah jus' leave me alone."

The train finally stopped in a station and the assistants said it was the last stop in schedule. Gambit hopped out unnoticed and immediately pulled on his shades, hiding his eyes. The city life was interesting…he finally found a sign that told him where he was. "New York?" He stated out loud. "Dis as far as de train goes I suppose."
Walking down the street Gambit realized that it was nicer than he could've thought. He stopped inside a coffee shop, flirted a little with the attendant, then bought a coffee and left. In some weird way he was content. Soon he looked down the street and saw this big mansion. Very well decorated and children were running around. Then out of the corner of his eye he saw a breathtaking young woman. She was wearing a blue-jean jacket with a red shirt underneath, red gloves, black pants…and her hair was the most unusual he had ever seen. It was brown and pulled up in a ponytail with white streaks on either side framing her beautiful face. Now dere's somet'ing y' don' see every day. What a belle femme!
He then looked at the sign on the gate. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Gambit's face had a puzzled look. "Looks like Remy have t' investigate later. He gonna check out de town first."
With that he headed out into the city and went a few places.
