Is This Destiny?

Chapter 11: Question One, What Do You Think?

--

I bit back; awe stuck by the sudden release of words, and quickly covered my mouth. What in the seven hells was wrong with me? My hand slowly descended from mouth and stopped at my chin; my eyes must have grown twice their normal size, I felt my body starting to shake slightly. “I’m…I don’t…” I was at a lost of words.

Kureno moved towards me, the gap between us shrunk in no time; I tried to clear my head and unknowingly backed myself up against the corroder. I was brought back to my senses by the feeling the wall behind me; my eyes were glued on Kureno. He was standing in front of me, his face leveled with my own.

What is he doing? I mind was racing, had the sudden urge to run away.

So, that was I decided to do.

I quickly pulled away from him and darted down the hallway, not taking a second look behind me. I ran, it felt like I was going in circles, but I knew were I was going, well sort of. I came to a sudden stop when a solid figure managed to get in my way; needless to say, we both fell on out ass to the floor.

I groaned, “Damn. I’m really so-“

My mouth quickly closed, it was just my luck I had managed to run into Hatsuharu. What is he doing here? I though he stayed back home with Hatori! Hatsuharu was quickly to his feet, dusted himself off, and even offered me a helping hand up. I took his hand and felt myself being quickly pulled up. A small yelp escaped my lips. Hatsuharu pulled me towards him; I felt the same urge to run again starting to stir up. But my mind went blank.

I didn’t want to run from him.

“You should really watch where you’re going.” Hatsuharu mumbled, bringing me out of my own thoughts.

I nodded, “I’m sorry, I was just-“

“Reiko!”

--

Reiko looked away from Hatsuharu; a new girl was running towards the two. Reiko quickly moved away from Hatsuharu and greeted the girl.

“Your home, Whisper.” Reiko said wrapping her arms around her cousin.

“Alright, alright, yes I’m home.” Whisper muttered, slightly pushing Reiko off of her, “I’ve been wanting to talk to you for awhile. Oh, who’s your friend?”

Reiko turned to face Hatsuharu; she didn’t make a move, but merely introduce each other, “This is Hatusuharu Sohma; Hatsuharu, this is my cousin Whisper Hatsumomo.”

They exchanged hellos.

Whisper returned her attention back to Reiko, “You and I need to speak.”

Reiko nodded and looked at Hatsuharu, “Ah- I’ll see you later Hatsuharu.”

With that Reiko left, being half way dragged by Whisper.

“Look at what we have done!” Ala exclaimed, holding up images of the ballroom, decorations, and a few sketches. “What do you think?”

“What is all this stuff for?” I asked, almost a little to afraid to find out the answer.

“For your party! Duh. What else would we be making all this for!” Ala yelled and pulled out a long piece of paper. “Look, Madelyn took a picture of the dress your going to where.”

I stared down at the image before me; it was a dress. But not just any old dress, this one was elegant. It was a shade of light pink, the hem reached down to the floor; the decorations on the dress were far beyond beautiful. To the side of the dress was a diamond incrusted bracelet and a matching necklace. A set of strap on pink heels and a small pink handbag were also included.

I didn’t know what to say, but… “You’re kidding right?”

“No.” Ala blunty spat. “That’s what your wearing for your birthday, Huu actually picked it out. I think he said, ‘This will make Reiko look like the beautiful young woman she is going to be.’”

Whisper took the image from my hand and studied it, “Aww, you’re going to look like a pretty princess.”

I rolled my eyes, “Great. Just what I wanted to be.”

“But you’ve got to admit it,” Whisper added, “The dress is stunning. Besides, Reiko, you know how Huu is when it comes to the big 18th birthdays! Remember mine?”

Ala grinned, “I do! Huu had to practically force you into that dress he picked out for you.”

Madelyn and Ala laughed out loud; I smirked at the disgusted look on Whisper’s face. “Yeah, well, when it was all over,” Whisper mumbled, “I ended up liking the dress. Hell I still have it right now. I think it’s somewhere in my closet.”

“You should wear it for Reiko’s party.” Madelyn whispered.

“LIKE HELL I AM!” Whispered yelled.

“What’s the matter? I thought you liked that dress.” Ala teased.

Whisper glared at her younger cousins, “I do, but it’s Reiko’s turn to shine. She’s going to get all the attention just like I got all the attention at my party. Aren’t you Reiko?”

I shrugged.

“Yeah, she will, plus a whole lot more since the other Sohma’s are here.” Ala muttered bitterly. “By the way, speaking of them, Reiko, I couldn’t help but notice how you and Hatsuharu were together most of the time when we were at the mall the other day.”

I glared at Ala, she just loved putting me on the spot, fine…two can play at this game. “Really? I’m supriced you even noticed considering the fact that you were all over Yuki that day.”

“WHAT?”

Whisper laughed, “So, little Ala has a crush now…well, well, well, now isn’t this interesting?”

Ala fumed, “Well…I wasn’t the only one that was with Yuki!” she pointed at Madelyn, “She was too.”

“I was, but I didn’t really talk to him that much, you sort of kept his attention.” Madelyn answered back.

Ala gasped, “Wh-Bu-I ARGH!”

We all laughed and watched Ala leave the room.

--

“…What’s with you?”

“Huh? Oh nothing, I’m just thinking.”

“About?”

“Well, about my birthday actually.”

I stared at Hatusuharu, as he stared back at me, and poured some more tea into his cup. It’s so easy to forget things when it comes to me, and this was no different. The fresh imprint of Hatsuharu’s sudden explosion last night was still lingering, but that was no reason to just completely stop all contact with him. He was still a guest, and I was still a host. Besides, everyone looses his or hers cool every now and then, right? I pulled back the teakettle and pushed a plate of cookies towards Hatsuharu.

“Want one?”

He shook his head no.

I pulled my hands onto my lap; they automatically formed into a fist, and cleared my throat. I had talked about the incident from last night with Whisper. Even though I told her it was nothing, she kept asking me if anything else happened. Why would anything else happen?

Are you sure he didn’t try to do anything to you?” Whisper asked with a concerned look on her face.

I nodded, “Yeah, he just got mad, that’s all.”

Whisper calmed down a little and crossed her arms in front of her chest, “Do you know why?”

Yes,” I nodded again, “Because Shigure told him that I had thrown up earlier in the day.’

You did? Why?” by this time Whisper was sitting in front of me; I shrugged my shoulders. She sighed and rubbed her head, “Well, maybe he was just worried? Guys worry to much sometimes.”

Worry about me?” I asked, almost like a child, “Why?”

Whisper rolled her eyes, “God, you are really dense aren’t you?” I glared but let her continue, “He probably thought you were, well, there is only one reason why a girl throws up without really knowing why. That is if they are pregnant.”

I looked back over at Hatsuharu; he wasn’t paying much attention to what was going on in the room. Like there really was anything going in here anyways. He was staring out of the window; I turned my head to look and noticed it had started raining. I looked away and stared at my clutched fists, the knuckles had turned white.

“Hatsuharu,” I released my fists and returned my eyes to his face. He wore an apathetic look; my face suddenly felt flushed and my mouth went dry. But I continued… “Last night…when you got mad at me for getting sick…did you think I was pregnant?”

There was silence.
