This is a song fic. With the song Taking Over Me by Evanescence. It's a Dearka Miriallia one shot. (OMG! I love this pairing!)
I haven't done a lot of research on Gundam Seed and I'm not quite sure I wrote this properly...so please don't be too harsh with me. I tried my best and the most important thing I could've possibly messed up is that ZAFT would never propose a peace offering. Other than that, I say Enjoy! And don't forget to review!
'I can't believe he's leaving...' Miriallia thought to herself as she slowly walked down the hall of the ArchAngel, towards her room. 'He's always been here for me,...but now...he's leaving...'
She stood in front of her room's door and it slid open to reveal two empty beds and a small table with a picture of her deceased boyfriend on it.
She went over to the table and picked up the picture, then sat down on her bed. She stroked the face of Tolle Koenig with her thumb and leaned against the wall. 'This is the second time I'm going to lose someone who I care about...' she thought sadly.
The war between the Naturals and the Coordinators had ended a few days ago, due to a peace offering from ZAFT. Everybody on the ArchAngel had taken the news with smiles and beers, all except for two.
Miriallia frowned and put Tolle's picture back down on the table. 'I better go say goodbye before he gets on that shuttle to ZAFT...' she thought.
She was about to get up when someone knocked on her door. She groaned and canceled the stand up idea. "Come in." she called and leaned forward to see who it was. The door slid open and one of her best friends walked in. "Oh, hey Sai..." she muttered and leaned back against the wall again.
Sai walked up to her bed and sat down beside her. "Hey, how are you doing?" he asked softly.
Sai had been her friend long before they had boarded the ArchAngel and he was always asking if she was okay or if she wasn't feeling well since Tolle's death. Miriallia knew that he meant well but, all his concerns were just depressing.
She had partially gotten over the death of her boyfriend when a certain blond coordinator had boarded their ship and even gone out to battle to defend her, even though she was totally oblivious of that being the reason he went to battle. But whenever Sai mentioned something that related to her fallen friend, she would feel terrible all over again.
-"I'm okay." Miriallia muttered. Sai looked at her before standing up.
-"I came to tell you that Dearka said goodbye and that he hopes you live a long, happy life."
Mir's eyes widened slightly and she shot up to stand behind Sai as he turned to leave. "Dearka? Is he gone already!" she asked quickly.
-"No, I don't think so...but his flight is leaving real soon, if not now..." Sai said and watched Miriallia's face turn to a worried one.
'I have to hurry!' she thought and ran to her door.
-"Mir? Where are you going?" Sai asked as her room door slid open and she ran out.
-"I'll be back, I just have to go see someone!" she called and took off down the hall. Sai sighed and turned to leave.
-"I hope she doesn't get hurt again..." he whispered and walked off towards the cafeteria.
POV Change
Dearka was walking down the hallway towards the shuttle he would be taking, suitcase in hand. 'Now that the war is over, there's no real point in me staying here...' he thought to himself. A picture of a certain brunette that he held dear popped into his mind. "Yeah right, as if she'll ever feel the same way about me." he muttered to himself.
She was everything to him. She was the reason he had stayed on the ArchAngel, even after he was told he could leave. She was the reason he fought against his friends from ZAFT on the battle field.
'There's just something about her...' he thought as he turned a corner in the hallway.
He remembered the first time he had laid eyes on her. She was standing in one of the hallways, mourning over her boyfriend that had died at the hands of his friend, Athrun. He had called her a crybaby and had told her that crybabies like her shouldn't be a part of the war they were in. Of coarse, he now regretted those words he had hurt her with back then.
'She's one of the strongest people on this whole ship...'
He continued his long walk down the hallway. He then remembered when she had walked in her room when he was laying down on one of the beds when he was tied up, and how she had attempted to stab him with a knife that she found on a table.
He had thought that she was going to be the end of him, when it turned out that she was the beginning.
He had gotten some hope when Sai had walked in and restrained her from attacking him again,...that's when that red head came in with a gun. 'I was so sure that I was going to die when she pulled out that gun...but you saved me...'
The girl that had wanted to kill him only moments ago, saved him by pushing the red head and redirecting the shot.
Dearka stopped when he entered a large room full of people. There was a small shuttle sitting not too far away from him. 'That must be my ride...' he thought sadly.
He hesitated for a moment before stepping towards the shuttle.
POV change
Miriallia ran down the hallways as fast as her little feet could go.
-"Shuttle to ZAFT leaving within the minute. All passengers please report to shuttle port." the speaker box above her head said suddenly, making Mir's heart sink.
'I'll make it! I know I will!' she thought and took a sharp right corner.
You don't remember me but I, remember you...
I lie awake and try so hard not to think of you...
But who can decide what they dream?
And dream I do...
Dearka slowly walked to the shuttle. He didn't want to leave her, but he knew that she didn't care if he was gone or not.
Or at least, that's what he thought...
Miriallia turned a sharp left corner and ran down the long hallway. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she forced herself to keep running. 'I'm almost there!'
I believe in you.
I'll give up everything just to find you.
I have to be with you,
To live, to breath, you're taking over me...
Dearka handed his suitcase over to the man standing in front of the shuttle. He then pulled his one-way ticket out of his pocket to show the shuttle guy.
-"Welcome aboard Mr. Elthman. Please go find your seat, the shuttle will be leaving shortly." the shuttle guy said and walked off to the back of the shuttle with Dearka's suitcase.
Dearka sighed loudly and turned to look at the hallway he had just come from before stepping up and into the shuttle.
He found his seat and sat down. Looking out the little circular window beside him, he wondered what Miriallia was doing at that moment.
Miriallia stopped running briefly to look up at the sign above her head that read 'Shuttle Port' with an arrow pointing straight ahead. She felt sort of proud in a small way. She had just ran the whole length of the ArchAngel nonstop, that was a new personal record!
She shook her head vigorously and looked straight ahead of her, continuing her run. 'I don't have time to think about stupid stuff like that right now! I need to get to Dearka before...' she cut herself off as she entered the huge room full of people. 'Yes! Made it!'
Have you forgotten all I know, and all we had?...
You saw me mourning my love for you, and touched my hand...
I knew you loved me then.
-"All passengers please fasten your seat belts and prepare for take off. We will be parting for ZAFT immediately." the speakers that were stationed all the way down the aisle of the shuttle said.
Dearka glanced down from the window at the instant that Miriallia came running into the shuttle port room to buckle up his seat belt.
Miriallia saw the shuttle that Dearka was taking and ran towards it, yelling for it not to leave.
-"No wait! Don't go yet!" she yelled and dodged around two staff that were on their way to the vending machines. "Wait!" she yelled again and ran faster.
I believe in you.
I'll give up everything just to find you.
I have to be with you,
To live, to breath, you're taking over me...
Dearka heard someone yelling and looked out his window to see the one person he least expected to be there. "Miriallia?" he whispered, astounded that she would be here, not to mention running towards his shuttle.
-"Please don't leave!" she cried and tried to wave down the shuttle that had already started to take off. She looked at his window and broke out into a new crying fit. "Dearka! Don't leave! You can't leave me here by myself!" Miriallia cried and ran up to the metal fence that separated her from the shuttle.
'What? She wants me to stay!' he thought and watched her jump the fence and run along side his window.
-"Dearka! Don't leave me!"
I look in the mirror, and see you face.
If I look deep enough.
So many things inside that are just like you are taking over...
That's when Dearka took action. He quickly unbuckled his seat belt and jogged up the aisle, towards the driver's room. One of the flight attendants stopped him short of the driver's room door.
-"Sorry Sir, but you can't go in there. Please go sit back down in your se-"
-"No! You don't understand!" Dearka cut her off hurriedly. "You need to stop this thing from taking off! I need to get off!" he exclaimed and tried to maneuver around the blonde flight attendant.
-"Sir, please go sit down." she said sternly and held her ground in front of the driver's room. Dearka growled low in annoyance.
-"You do not want to get a ZAFT coordinator mad, little missy!" he said and side stepped to try to get around her. The flight attendant moved so she was in front of him and gave him a smug look.
-"And you, sir, don't want to get a flight attendant mad." she said calmly.
'I'm getting nowhere with this blonde chic...' Dearka thought and turned around, pretending to be going back to his seat. 'Time for drastic measures...'
I believe in you.
I'll give up everything just to find you.
I have to be with you,
To live, to breath, you're taking over me!
Miriallia saw Dearka get up from his seat and run to the front of the shuttle. She silently cheered that he had finally reacted to all the noise she had been making.
She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't even notice that fence she had jumped was a lot higher now and was going to cut her off from her path alongside the shuttle.
She let out a startled shriek as she wacked into the metal bars and fell backwards onto the cold ground. She quickly got up and watched as the shuttle got higher and farther out of her reach.
-"Dearka!" she screamed and punched the bars of the fence, tears welling up in her eyes.
I believe in you.
I'll give up everything just to find you.
I have to be with you,
To live, to breath, you're taking over me.
Dearka was almost to his seat when he took a sharp left and rammed the emergency exit with his shoulder. The hatch opened and the door fell away, taking him with it, falling to the ground of the shuttle port.
He cursed out loud as he hit the pavement and heard something crack in his arm.
-"Dearka!" Miriallia cried out and turned to run back to where the fence was short enough to jump over. "Dearka!" she exclaimed as she dropped to her knees and gently turned him over so he was on his back.
He groaned and looked up into her teary eyes. "Hey,...Miriallia..." he muttered and smiled at her before passing out.
Tears fell from Miriallia's eyes as she wiped some dirt off one of his cheeks.
-"Oh Dearka..."
Taking over me...
You're taking over me...
Taking over me...
Taking over me...
(2 Days Later...)
-"Miriallia..." Dearka groaned and slowly opened his eyes. He was laying in one of the bunk beds in a standard ArchAngel dorm room, which turned out to be Mir's room. He felt something soft on his hand and bent his neck so he could see what it was.
There was Miriallia. She was sitting on the floor with her hand wrapped around his, her head resting right beside his shoulder, and she was asleep.
Dearka smiled slightly and tried to lift his right arm, only to feel pain. He looked over to his arm and cursed out loud. His whole lower arm, elbow down, was in a dark blue cast. He laid his head back against his pillow and gently squeezed Mir's hand.
'Why did she want me to stay so badly at the last minute?' he wondered and glanced at her sleeping figure. 'She said she didn't want me to leave her all alone...what's that mean? There's plenty of people on this ship with her.' (A/N: he's so clueless...)
Miriallia mumbled something in her sleep and slowly opened her eyes and sat up.
-"Hey Miriallia." Dearka said softly.
Miriallia's eyes darted to Dearka's face and she lit up like a light bulb on Christmas Day.
-"Dearka! You're awake!" she exclaimed and flung herself onto him, giving him a upper body hug.
-"Uh, yeah..." Dearka said and hesitantly placed his working arm around her.
-"I'm so glad you're okay!" she cried. Dearka had no idea how to take this.
-"Um Miriallia, how long have I been out?" he asked as she let go of him and helped him sit up.
-"Two days." she replied and sat down beside him on the bed.
'Two days? She's acting as if I was out for weeks.' "What exactly happened?" he asked.
-"Well," Miriallia started, thinking about how she could explain it. "Basically, when I was in here with Sai," she said, "I was told that you passed a message through Sai to me, telling me to have a long, happy life. That's when I came to a realization..." she said and looked down at the carpeted floor. "You're too important to me. I couldn't just let you walk out of my life without saying goodbye." she said softly and Dearka just kept looking at her, not believing that she was starting to feel the same way about him that he did her.
-"So," Mir continued with a slight blush on her face, "I ran all the way to the shuttle port to try and catch you before you left for ZAFT. But I guess I got there a little late..." her voice died out as she glanced at his cast. Dearka saw the sad look on her face and felt his heart soften.
-"So, you didn't want me to leave?" he asked the obvious to see her reaction.
She shook her head No and looked him in the eyes. "No, and I,...I still don't." she whispered.
Dearka looked down at the floor and listened to the unsteady beat of his heart. 'Calm down Sparky, these feelings she's expressing probably aren't the kind you think they are.' he thought, not knowing that he would soon be proven wrong.
-"I,...I felt terrible after Tolle's death...and at one point I thought you were the one responsible...but unknowingly, you were actually making me feel better about the loss..." Miriallia said softly as a lone tear fell down her cheek. "And whenever you went out to battle to defend the ArchAngel, I was so scared that you wouldn't come back..." her voice cracked as another tear ran down her face.
Dearka hesitantly reached up with his good hand and gently wiped the tears from her cheeks. "I'm sorry I worried you, but...I knew that I had to go out to battle every time the enemy attacked. I had to defend what I believed in and what's important to me..." Dearka said softly and put his hand down on the bed, only to have it picked up and held by one of Miriallia's hands.
-"Dearka, I have to tell you how I feel...At first, I didn't know how to react to theses feelings, and I felt bad because I thought I was disrespecting Tolle's memory but,...I couldn't stop myself. I couldn't stop myself from worrying about you, or wondering how you were doing..."
Dearka gently squeezed her hand, showing her that he was there for her.
-"You mean so much to me, Dearka. I care about you so much that I came to realize that I...I love you...I love you so much." Miriallia said in a whisper and more tears fell down her face.
Dearka took this in and inwardly cheered. He let go of her hand and pulled her into a tight embrace, ignoring the pain his broken arm was giving him. Miriallia let him take her in and laid her head on his chest.
-"Oh Mir,...I'm so glad to hear that." Dearka whispered softly and hugged her tighter. "I love you too. I always have, I just didn't want to say anything to hurt you after your boyfriend's death..." he finished and pulled away, cupping her face with his good hand.
Miriallia smiled. "Well then, aren't you glad I got there before the shuttle got to space?" she asked.
-"You have no idea." Dearka said and leaned in, giving her the kiss that would be the beginning of wonderful memories, and a bond that would never be broken...
You're taking over me...
