A/N: I knew it would be short when I set to writing it...but I managed to make it e.x.a.c.t.l.y 200 words long.

JUST FOR ONCE

Just because things are better between us now, doesn't mean I'm free of the old habits. We have a new house, new cars, and a new life, but I'm still stuck in the same routine. She pretends to cook. I pretend to like the food. It's chicken and white sauce this evening, and I'm ready to take my first bite. A second later, I realize that it's doing something to my tongue. At first I'm startled. Did she change her mind? Is my wife going to poison me after all? But no...it's tasty. Stimulating. Delicious. I raise my head from the food, and she sees the spark in my eye. There's something almost-just almost-bashful about the smile that spreads across her lips.

"Did you-?"

"I did."

"All these years of faking it, and the whole time, you could...?"

"Truth? I didn't know I could."

"Why didn't you ever-?"

"Never had the time."

"That busy, huh?"

"Yes."

"So was I."

"I know."

"But just for once..."

"Yes. Just for once...I cooked."

I smile and take another bite of chicken. For a moment, I'm a man in love having dinner...and it's the best meal I've ever had.
