The Bitter Envy

A/N: This is a one shot, my friends. Just a little story I felt like writing in celebration of getting ff dot working for me again!

Liam had the perfect house, the perfect yard, the perfect daughter, and the perfect wife…

Not really the perfect brother.

Liam had always seemed to have it all, even on the drugs. He always had a girl in each arm. Always had his photo being taken for the newspaper. Always signing a picture of his smiling, bright face for a fan.

Charlie had said he was in the band for the music. So now why all of a sudden did Liam’s actions mean so much to him? Why did he long to be the one in the middle of the stage – the lead singer. Why did he want to be the one signing autograph after autograph?

It was for the music.

So why couldn’t he convince himself anymore?

Liam hadn’t always been the favored one. When Charlie came along, he was doted upon plenty by relatives. He was well liked in school. Not a jock or anything, but very admired by his classmates and music teachers.

But then when the band started…Liam pushed his way to the front. He was the one everyone admired, the one everyone looked up to, the one everyone wanted to be and the one every girl wanted to go out with.

Most of the girls Charlie had been with were hand-me-downs from Liam and the other band members. It made him feel like he was at the bottom of the Totem Pole or something.

When Charlie started the drugs, he wasn’t sure whom to blame. Himself, for picking up the damn things, or Liam, for putting him under so much stress. But he always came back to that it was his fault. Liam hadn’t known what he was doing to Charlie. Or had he?

And then in the end, it was Liam who gave up the drugs for the perfect life. And it was Liam who left Charlie in the dust. And it was Liam who made Charlie look like he was the reason the band broke up. And it was Liam who had seemed to take Charlie’s whole world in his hands, give it a shake, and set it back down in a mangled, unfixable condition.

It was Liam. It was a love-hate relationship. If Liam had made him so mad, why did he catch the flight to Sydney to try to get him to jumpstart DriveSHAFT? Why was envy still there in Charlie’s bones?

And the most important question…was Liam to blame for Charlie getting stuck on some deserted island? After all, Liam was the one Charlie had came to see…
