Fallen Feathers
A high cheer escaped a young group of teens mouths as they sped down the streets of Domino, each holding a bottle of beer in their hands and swinging them back and forth in time with the movements of the car they were travelling in.
The driver took a sip of his Budweiser before wrapping his arm around his girlfriend, who was sitting in the front with him as she giggled in excitment.
The adrenaline pumped through their bodies as they narrowly overtook another car. With that "level" completed they proceeded to the next, firstly by increasing their speed; that's when things went wrong.
A red light flared to life ahead of them, the blonde girl warned her boyfriend to stop but soon her please turned to horrific silence, her eyes widening in terror as they seen someone cross the road ahead of them.
The driver's hazel eyes widened too in horror as he pressed down against the brakes; but it was too late.
A pair of honey eyes met theirs in surprise before a roaring metal machine dug deep into his body causing him to flip up and over the bonnet, rolling to a stop several meters away.
The driver gasped for breath as he checked the mirror and seen the reflection of the man lying motionless on the road.
The girl held her head in her hands, gasping and repeating a mantra of "Kami-sama" under her breath. The two in the backseat fell back against the expensive leather in shock, trying desperately not to vomit at their actions.
The driver couldn't tear his eyes away from the body. He narrowed his eyes, a mix of determination and fear swirling through them as he sent the car foreward and away from the scene as fast as he could, ignoring the accusing shouts of his friends and girlfriend, ignoring the prone form of Jou...
Yami chose this moment to walk in, feeling the pain and distress from the other side of the link, "Aibou? What happened?" he asked, concern lacing his voice.
Yugi looked up at the Pharaoh, amethyst eyes shining with tears as his face seemed to lose its rosy color. He ran straight into Yami's arms, burying his face into his chest and letting the tears flow freely.
Yami was surprised at this but wrapped his arms around his hikari in a comforting manner, rubbing soothing patterns on Yugi's back and whispered sweet nothings in his ear.
"What happened aibou?" Yami asked finally, tilting his aibou's head up with his thumb and gazing into the greif filled amethyst's with sympathetic rubies.
Yugi sniffed slightly as he whispered between sobs, "It's Jou, he was h-hit by a car t-today. The doctor's s-say he is b-badly h-hurt and he m-might not s-survive the night,"
Yami's eyes widened in horror as he gripped his hikari even more tightly, almost protectively, rocking him back and forth and surpressing the tears in his own eyes. He had to be strong for the both of them...
Azure eyes widened considerably, as the owner heard the same heart-stopping information that the two tri color haired teens just heard. As Yami finished he awaited a response from his dueling rival but all he met was a steady beep on the other end of the phone, signalling that Seto had hung up.
The CEO didn't want to say anything as he closed over his laptop and held his head in his hands in disbelief, his azure eyes tried to focus on the table in front of him, it wasn't supposed to be this way...
Though through the concern and the worry this situation brought him, Yami sighed irratibly as he noticed the only person missing in the group; Seto Kaiba.
Although Seto had sent his special team of doctors down to take care of Jou, he himself hadn't shown up, which Yami found to anger him greatly.
Having had enough of this, Yami told Yugi he was going to find Seto, which Yugi agreed to completely. Yami didn't really want to leave Yugi alone during this, but he sighed in relief as Mai went over to Yugi to comfort him.
Yami's possessive nature kicked in as Mai wrapped her arms around Yugi and allowed him to rest his head on her shoulder. A low growl rose in his throat but remained silent in the mourning room. He quickly surpressed another possessive snarl, knowing the violet eyed female was only attempting to console the younger man and smiled in gratitude.
Mai nodded towards him as he darted down the hallways and outside to rush to Seto's house but that was unnecessary since he found the CEO leaning against the hospital wall, arms crossed over his chest in an impassive gesture but if he had his eyes open, the concern would be seen in the broken sapphire jewels.
"Kaiba! Why are you out here? You should be in here with us," Yami whispered through clenched teeth, attempting to surpress the enormous amount of rage brewing within his chest. The brunette regarded this with his now open, calm azure eyes before sighing forlornly.
Uncrossing his arms, he pushed himself gently off of the wall and stood directly in front of the former Pharaoh, narrowing his eyes upon the Pharaoh's exotic rubies.
"I can't go in there," Yami arched an eyebrow in confusion at the softly spoken words. Seto noticed this and decided to explain further. "Yami, you and Yugi have eachother, the two of you are in love. Could you bare to see something happen to Yugi and then have to go and see him like..."
He cut himself off at these words, raising his clenched fists slightly as he turned his head to one side and shut his eyes to block the tears from falling.
"You...love him?" Yami asked in disbelief, though it did make sense to him now. Seto remained silent, continuing to gaze at the ground below through closed eyelids as he nodded his head in defeat.
"Kaiba, I think you should tell him how you feel. He might not have long left, even with your doctors treating him, this may be your only chance," Yami advised, the irony of advising his once advisor not lost on him.
Seto gazed up at Yami, disbelief and a rare sense of fear flowing through his being, he narrowed his eyes and looked away in shame, Yami caught this and sighed in pity as he walked over to his former High Priest and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"It is your choice Kaiba, you don't have to tell him but if you don't say it now..." Yami trailed off not having the courage to finish his sentence as he tightened his grip before removing his hand from Seto's shoulder and walking back into the hospital.
Seto's mind was reeling, he was always thinking of the perfect way to tell Jou his feelings, he didn't want it to be like this, but unfortunately the gods had different plans and he had no other choice but to follow the path the gods laid out for him.
With that he walked into the hospital following Yami who was a few metres ahead of him, but even at this distance he could tell the former Pharaoh was smiling or smirking at least which in turn, caused Seto to smirk slightly at the Pharaoh's antics.
The brunette came across the waiting room which was full of his puppy's friend's who were comforting one another, looked over at Yami who was resuming his earlier job of holding the distraught Yugi in his lap and allowing the younger man to snuggle into his chest.
The Pharaoh locked his crimson eyes with determined azure orbs and nodded towards him, "He's in room 7 Kaiba."
Kaiba nodded towards him in reply, a rare smile of gratitude tugging at his lips as he walked down the hallways and towards room 7.
As he passed the rooms, he shifted his eyes slightly to look through the open doors to see other patients with crying family members at their side, which Seto found made the floor seem more interesting, surprisingly enough.
He stopped suddenly in front of the light blue door with a silver plaque on the front reading the number "7" in black writing. He reached out to turn the handle, his eyes widening as his hand shook slightly, he never shook like that.
Seto shook his head and closed his eyes, resting his hand on the silver door handle and turning it quickly whilst he still had the courage to do so.
He soon snapped his eyes open, azure orbs focusing on the motionless form that lay upon the bed, under a set of white sheets, the color of most of the rest of the room. They softened though as he watched the young man lie in the bed, several different machines were strapped to Jou's broken and bandaged body as his chest moved up and down rhythmically.
It made the blonde duelist look so...small and weak, like a simple touch could break him like fragile glass. It broke Seto's heart to see his precious puppy like this.
The CEO slowly made his way over to the side of the bed, staring down at the sleeping Jou with compassion in his heart. Jou seemed to sense this as his honey eyes fluttered open and focused in on Seto.
"S-Se...to?" he whispered meekly, causing Seto to frown inwardly. The brunette slowly sat down on the bed, avoiding all the equipment attached to Jou's body.
"Yeah mutt, it's me." Seto replied, not even having enough heart to smirk as Jou pouted at the name.
"What're...y-you...d-doing...here?" He asked in confusion as he tried to sit up properly, though he was surprised when Seto helped him up, a faint blush appeared when the CEO grasped him around the waist.
"I'm here for you pup, do you know why you're here?" Jou shook his head at this, ignoring the fact that he had been called "pup" by the brunette, instead focusing on the fact that Seto still hadn't let him go.
Seto sighed and pulled Jou closer to him, ignoring the slight gasp that Jou made during this, "Pup, you were in a car accident earlier today, you were hurt pretty badly," he trailed off at this, letting Jou figure the rest out on his own, which he did quickly enough.
Jou's eyes narrowed as he thought about it, he knew he wouldn't be able to hold on much longer, he could feel it deep within his being. In fear he snuggled closer to Seto, resting his head on the CEO's chest.
Seto didn't mind though, he just stroked the blonde's hair lovingly, praying to the gods to give him more time. "Jou, it'll be ok, I'm here with you."
Jou's eyes widened when he heard the lack of dog names in the sentence, no "mutt" or "pup", just Jou, he knew things were more serious than he first thought.
Taking in a deep breath, Jou whispered to the brunette, "Seto...I think I've...fallen in love with you..."
Seto's eyes widened before slowly closing as a soft smile appeared, "Me too, Jou, me too." Seto buried his face into Jou's wild blonde hair, trying his best to hold back the tears stinging his eyes, Jou was doing the same but he couldn't hold them in as well.
The brunette placed a finger under Jou's chin, tilting his head up to meet his own. He sighed inwardly in contentment as Jou's breath tickled his face, before he opened his eyes slightly to lock onto scared honey orbs before leaning in to capture his puppy's lips.
Jou didn't protest when Seto did this, which pleased the CEO greatly. The blonde whimpered slightly as Seto nibbled his bottom lip pleading for entrance, which was quickly granted to him. Seto darted his tongue into the blonde's mouth, tasting every crevice of Jou's moist cavern, grunting slightly in pleasure.
They both broke away several minutes later when oxygen became an issue for both of them, leaning against eachother's foreheads whilst panting for breath.
"I love you Seto" Jou whispered finally, snugggling closer to his dragon, as Seto held Jou even more tightly in his arms, replying, "I love you too mutt."
The blonde smiled slightly at the nickname, he breathed deeply taking in the scent of his beloved dragon before sighing in appreciation and closing his mirth filled honey eyes a final time.
A single tear rolled down Seto's cheek and fell upon Jou's messy blonde hair. Several more would soon follow as he felt the body in his arms slump against his own, the blonde's form devoid of movement, of breath, but in the end filled with love.
Seto smiled, holding the motionless body close to his own as he stared out at the midnight sky, azure eyes shining with unshed tears, yet his mind registered a foreign emotion to him, one that felt strange to feel at that particular moment, bliss.
"You'd better take care of the mutt up there, you hear? Or else you'll have me to answer to," he threatened the gods, yet he still smiled in joy and cried in sorrow.
Turning his gaze to the motionless blonde in his arms, his smile widened slightly when he see the soft expression on Jou's face.
The brunette slowly leaned down and kissed his puppy's forehead lightly before laying him down on the bed and leaving the room.
As he closed the door he failed to notice the light that suddenly surrounded Jou's body, the still body basked in the sweet light for many seconds before vanishing and leaving a small pile of silvery white feather's in its place.
