Summary: With his sister in a magical slumber, Taichi has vowed to find Kari’s ‘True Love’ to break the cursed spell. The Fates may have a different idea for him. Spin-off on Sleeping Beauty with some twists. AU Taito
A/n: I love the fairy tale ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and I love Digimon. So why not try to put them together? It’s a spin-off of the actual fairy tale, however, and some, and probably most, things will be changed. What would be the fun if we already knew the story line?
Caution: Yaoi (boyxboy) Taito (TaichixYamato) AU (alternate universe) and some out-of-character may unintentionally occur. Although, I feel as though it may be unavoidable. If you do not like the idea of any of these issues, then don’t proceed to read the story. Simple, no?

One Kiss

She was lying on an elaborate bed only fit for that of a princess’s status. Her mahogany eyes were closed, as they had been for hours now, in a slumber so deep that anyone looking upon her lightly tanned face would know that it was from the use of powerful black magic.
An intricate design covered her pale pink gown, lined with both silver and gold. The skirt of the gown was weighed with numerous silken bows and delicate lace; the sides of the lavish bed were hidden behind the many folds of the smooth material.
“She looks ridiculous.” The statement was made by a 19-year-old male. Taichi Yagami’s golden brown eyes swept over his younger sister, taking in her sleeping features, and the luxurious clothes that adorned her body. “Kari would have never allowed you to dress her up in this rediculous outfit if she was awake.”
“Taichi that’s enough.” Taichi’s father said sternly, his dark eyes narrowed in concern for his youngest daughter. The chestnut haired teen was wise enough not to reply back.
“I can’t believe she really fell to the spell.” His mother said sadly. She was sitting next to the princess’s beside, her hand holding her daughter’s. “I was certain we had gotten rid of all the spinning wheels.”
“Yeah, well, you would think that Kari would be smart enough to not go anywhere near a spinning wheel when she was perfectly aware of the curse.” Taichi told his parents. His words may have sounded harsh, but one look at his golden-brown eyes betrayed his true feelings for his sister. He truly cared for Hikari and her current state of well-being.
“I don’t think that’s a kind thing to say about your younger sister, Taichi.” His father informed his son with a frown. “Your sister is very intelligent. It was the work of the curse that brought about her misfortune. It’s not as if she could have helped the inevitable.” A moment of silence followed the king’s words before it was broken by a soft sigh.
“Well, I suppose the only thing we can do is put the kingdom under an enchanted sleep of our own.” The queen stated forlornly.
“What?” Taichi asked incredulously. “Why would we want to do that?”
“The kingdom would not know how to function with their princess under a spell. It would be complete mayhem.” The queen explained patiently. Taichi stared at his mother in disbelief.
“But we don’t know when Kari will wake up. It could be in a couple of days or even a couple of years.”
“We know that, Taichi, but there really is nothing else we can do.” The king intervened. “We will just have to wait patiently for Kari’s True Love to come and break the spell.”
“We have toleave the fate of our kingdom in the hands of some guy we don’t even know?” Taichi demanded skeptically. “We don’t even know what this True Love guy will be like. What if he’s a murderer or something and hurts Kari while everyone’s asleep?” His mother laughed pleasantly at his outburst.
“Taichi, dear, I sincerely doubt that Kari’s True Love will be a murderer. It would be unseemly for a princess to be with anyone but a prince.”
Taichi couldn’t believe that his usually level-minded parents had come up with this crazyplan of making everyone sleep until Kari woke up. It was an insane idea!
“Mother, give me some time and I will find Kari’s True Love so that he will break the spell.” Taichi proposed desperately. “Then we wouldn’t have to go through with your…plan.” His mother glanced at her husband before looking back at the prince, sighing resignedly.
“Alright Taichi, if it means that much to you. We’ll give you a fortnight before we’ll put everyone under our own spell.” She paused thoughtfully. “Are you sure you want to look for your sister’s True Love, dear? You haven’t even had any luck in finding your own.” Taichi’s golden brown eyes adverted towards the ground at the statement.
It was an unwritten rule that all royalty figures were supposed to find their True Love when they reached 16 years of age. Taichi, however, had never found the right princess for him. He knew that his parents were becoming concerned with this fact. Who had ever heard of prince charming with out a damsel in distress to rescue?
“I want to do this, mother.” He informed the older woman quietly. “Maybe all of my unused luck will help me find Kari’s True Love.” The queen smiled gently as she nodded.
“Alright Taichi. I can see how important this is to you. But remember, we can’t wait forever to find this prince.”
“Don’t worry, mother, I don’t plan to.”

Nighttime was always the best time to bathe, or, at least, it was in Taichi’s opinion. And, of course, there was no better place to do so than in a cold, glistening river. Being able to be away from the bustling castle, away from his commanding parents, and just being able to relax and have some alone time was complete bliss for the young prince.
Taichi ducked under the water, feeling the cold water soothe away all of his worries and fears. The cold water didn’t allow him to think about the possibility of failure in finding the person to cure his sister. It just left him with a tingling sensation that made him feel refreshed and revitalized.
“You know, dear prince, you shouldn’t bathe in rivers all alone at night. You never know who might appear to watch the show.”
Taichi was startled at the sudden voice breaking through the calm and quiet atmosphere, but, after the initial shock, he just ducked back under the water before coming back up, flinging the excess droplets from his chestnut brown hair. A chuckle rang through out the forest.
“If you are going to be this open with showing off your body, dearest Taichi, then perhaps you would be better off to invite the whole kingdom to watch their favorite prince bathe in my river.” Taichi turned to face the blonde magician with a glare.
“It’s not your river, Yamato. And I am not showing off my body. I came here to be alone.” The prince paused. “But I doubt you know the meaning of privacy.” Yamato’s laughter had an almost musical touch to it.
“Well, being a magician and having many magical powers, I don’t need to concern myself with things like privacy.” Yamato smirked. “Especially when I could just magic myself to the current location of the person I wish to see.” Taichi walked closer to the bank of the river.
“And we all know how much you love to just drop in on people with out any warning.” He said grudgingly. Yamato chuckled.
“Ah, I must confess, my dearest prince, appearing in your room while you were getting dressed was quite enlightening.” Yamato’s smirk became more prominent as he ignored the glare that Taichi was sending him. “But, you should think of yourself as lucky.” Taichi raised an eyebrow at the statement.
“And why is that? Because I had someone gorgeous in my bedroom?” Taichi questioned sarcastically. Yamato laughed once again.
“As much as it pleases me that you think of me that way, my prince,” Yamato told the other male, “but I believe you should think of yourself as lucky because you still had on your undergarments. Who knows what you will be wearing next time I pop on in? One can only hope that your body will be adorned with considerably less clothing.” Yamato winked sultrily at the prince. Taichi rolled his eyes.
“You are such a pervert.” He stated. However, the magician didn’t look at all disheartened at this conclusion. “It always has amazed me that my parents have kept you around this long. Now throw me my clothes so I can dressed.” Yamato smirked again.
“I don’t know if I should.” The blonde said slowly. “I kind of like the idea of you running around with out any clothing on.” He completed this idea with a sultry lick of his lips. Taichi groaned in response before holding out his hand, waiting for the magician to give him his clothing.
“You are seriously no fun.” Yamato pouted as he waved his hand towards the pile of shed clothing, which steadily floated over to the prince and landed neatly in his outstretched hand. Taichi instantly started putting on his clothes, making his way out of the river once he was assured he was fully covered.
“But honestly, Taichi.” Yamato broke the silence as he watched the prince adjust his leather belt. “Why are you out in the middle of the night bathing of all things?”
“I’m leaving tomorrow.” The chestnut haired male answered simply. Yamato blinked.
“Okay…” He said slowly. “What for?”
“I need to find Kari’s True Love before a fortnight has passed. Otherwise my wonderful parents are going to force everyone in the kingdom to go under the same type of spell that Kari is under.”
“Oh. Sounds like fun.” The blonde commented sarcastically. Taichi glared at him again.
“I never asked for your opinion.”
“I am sorry, my dear Taichi, I was not trying to offend you. Is there any way I can help?”
“Don’t start with the kiss-up act. We both know it doesn’t suit you.” Taichi told the magician as he glanced at the other male.
“Well, if you are offering to ‘kiss-up’ we both also know that I won’t decline.” Yamato said smirking before a serious expression took over his pale features. “I would offer to do a scrying for this mysterious True Love of your sister’s but it is impossible for magic to find anyone’s True Love. No matter how powerful the magician.” Taichi titled his head in interest.
“Why not? I though anything was possible, especially if magic is on your side.”
“Well, a person’s True Love is a person’s soulmate. A soulmate is someone you will be with for the rest of your life. You and that other person are so right for each other that nothing would ever be able to break you apart.”
“This,” The blonde continued, “is the makings of a magic much stronger than anything that will ever be found on Earth. Love is, after all, unconquerable.” Taichi snickered.
“Sound’s like a load of garbage to me.”
“Well, maybe one day you will be forced to believe in it.” Yamato told him seriously. “It may be hard to believe now, but I have seen many miracles performed from the love between two people.”
“You could become a story teller, Yamato. Your tales are big enough.”
“I can tell now that you, my dear prince, need some lessons in the powers of love.” The said prince started laughing at Yamato’s words.
“Seriously Taichi, I am not trying to sound like an idiot. These powers are quite real. They say that just one kiss from your True Love can break any spell, regardless of power that spell had. That is why it is so important to find your sister’s True Love.” The mention of his sister quieted Taichi. Noticing his somber expression, Yamato offered a kind smile
“Tell me, Taichi, how can I go about to make amends for my behavior earlier?”
“Yamato, if you wanted to go with me on this cursed journey, you should have just said so.” The prince told him with a roll of his golden brown eyes.
“It is heartening to hear that you want my companionship so much. Is this a love confession I am hearing, my dear prince?” Yamato teased, glancing at the chestnut haired teen.
“You are absolutely hopeless, Yamato.” Taichi gave a smirk of his own. “We both know how much you want me, but never once have I heard any sort of ‘confession’. What makes you think that I will do anything of the sort? Why would I ever want to fall in love with some one like you?” Instead of receiving a witty, provocative, and, most-likely inappropriate remark from the magician, Taichi was startled when silence answered his question. He turned to look at the blonde, and was again surprised to see the spot Yamato had been standing in was empty.
Taichi felt a little guilty at the magician’s quick departure. He hadn’t meant to upset Yamato, but they both knew that the almost flirtatious remarks exchanged between them were only for good fun.
In all fairy tales, princes never fell in love with magicians. Especially male magicians.
Even if Taichi’s heart sped up whenever he was near the blonde magician.
It never happened that way.
Princes and Magicians just don't mix.

A/n: Honestly? I really like this idea, plus, it was wicked fun to write. Even if I started writing it at a little before midnight and didn’t get done until after one o’clock in the morning. My eccentric muses love to keep me up all night. I am interested in what every one thought of this peculiar idea. Anyways, see ya’ll next chapter.
