Drabble:

A crackle of green flame shoots into space and dissipates. The sound of pacing echoes off of spheres and empty space. The sound of cursing in a strange and unfamiliar language could be heard as well, if one knew how to hear it. The sounds last for years.

On Earth, a woman looks out of a window to the night sky, and sighs a little. The old book in her lap lays open and unread, and a radio is playing, unheeded. The rest of the apartment is empty; she is alone in the world.

Have they waited long enough yet?
