A/N: I know, I know, I did take a while before posting this new chapter. You know why? Blame J.K. Rowling! I’ve been reading Harry freakin’ Potter and the Half-Blood freakin’ Prince! If you haven’t read it, well read it! Oh and don’t mean to ruin it for anyone, but at least she made one of my favorite couples a canon! Woot!
Anyway, on with the story…..
The musical comes to an end, and Aiden brushes away a couple of tears. Her tears reflect the realization of how short life is and how important it is to love the friends that surround you. Danny sees her and chuckles. She yet again smacks him across his arm and they start to walk out the theatre.
“So how’d you like it?” he asks as they walk together to the exit.
“I love it. I’m glad it was my first Broadway show,” she looks down at the carpet and nudges against his shoulder, “Thank you, I had fun.”
“Well the fun is yet to be over,” he says as they walk out of the front doors and he points the horse carriage awaiting them. She gasps at the magnificent white horse and looks up to see powdery snow fall upon the dark streets of NYC, “Your ride awaits,” he grabs her hand and pulls her the carriage.
He sees Seamus open the small door and he winks at as he helps Aiden into the carriage. He lifts himself up and sits next to her. Danny surreptitiously tells the driver their destination and then covers himself and Aiden with a reddish soft blanket.
He turns to look at her and she shakes her head in a I-can’t-believe-this-is-happening sort of way, “So now you can say that you went on a horse carriage ride.”
She turns to smile at him ecstatically and does not muster a word. The snow continues to fall at a slow rate. Aiden silently rubs her hands together for warmth. She turns to look at Danny, laces her hand with his, and whispers into his ear, “Thank you,” and she places a sweet kiss upon his cheek.
A tinge of pink surfaces on her cheeks, making her feels like a fourteen year old, and glances at the scenery around her. Cars pass by her on one side and Central Park looms over on her left. Christmas lights shine from every possible spot on the street and the sight gives her a sense of peace.
She lays her head on his shoulder and feels his warmth. He sees her from the corner of his eye and decides to lay his head on hers, hands still intertwined.
Danny realizes that there are five blocks left until they reach the Empire State Building. As they get nearer, he lifts his head and she does the same, “Okay, close your eyes.”
“What?” she asks in a surprised tone, “Why?”
“Do it, please,” he says pouting a bit and she willingly corresponds to his request. He pays the driver and gives him his thanks. Then he comes out of the carriage, “Eyes are closed, right?” he says. He turns back to her and she holds out her arms, “Yes.”
He places her hands on his shoulder and grabs her waist. Danny pulls her out of the carriage and her feet land on the cement floor, “Good, now to ensure that you don’t ruin the surprise, I will put my hands over your eyes.”
“Danny!” she exclaims, but he ignores her protest. He places his hands over her eyes and tells her to move forward. As the get closer to the front doors of the Empire, he sees Joe and Joe comes to open the doors for them.
He mouths a thank you to Joe and he nods in return, “Keep going Aid, only a few more feet to go.”
“Where are we going Danny?” she asks impatiently as she holds her arms out in front of her.
“Ah, if I tell you, then it defeats the purpose of closing your eyes, doesn’t it?” he replies.
“You are such a smart ass,” she says and laughs. They approach the elevator, it only took them a minute or so to reach the very top.
“Ok, where are we now?” she asks again.
“Wait for it, wait for it,” he says and opens the door leading to the outside balcony, “Okay are you ready?” She nods impatiently and he slowly takes out his hands, “Open them.” Aiden gasps at the view before her and starts to take a few steps back.
She grabs his arm and hides her head against his neck, “Oh god, oh god…I’m afraid of heights Danny.” He laughs at her and turns her around.
“Are you sure you’re from New York, the city of skyscrapers?” he plays around with her. He places his arms around her waist and then whispers into her ear, “I won’t let you fall, never.”
She gulps hard and he can feel her heart beat fast against his chest, “Come on, let’s move a little further,” he says. Both walk in synchronizing steps, and gradually reach the railing. She tightens her grip against his hands on her abdomen area, “See it’s not that bad,” he whispers in a husky voice.
They gaze upon the illuminated city and hear the distant sounds of ambulances and car alarms. He rests his chin upon her shoulder and waits for her to say something.
“Why? First Rent, then the horse carriage, now this? Why?” she turns around in his embrace and holds his arms for support.
He tries to avert her stare, but he locks with her brown eyes, “I thought it would be obvious by now Aid. How does it go again? Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes, right? I don’t measure my days by minutes, I measure them by how much time I spend with you,” he replies in a steady voice. He cups her cheek, she leans into his calloused hands and closes her eyes. She places her hand upon his and reopens her eyes.
“What I’m trying to say Aid is that…I love you,” he says in an audible whisper. He keeps his ground, waiting for her response as several moments pass by.
Aiden places her free hand on his cheek and pulls him into a soft kiss. She parts her lips and grasps his lower lip, and he takes this to return the kiss. They passionately kiss as her arms move to snake around his neck and his wrap around her waist.
Aiden Burn is known to have kissed many guys, some who were just plain jerks. But the one man that she is kissing right now gives her a sense of importance and serenity. As she kisses him, all the happy and funny moments they’ve shared for the past half year come flowing into her mind. She breaks the kiss due to lack of air, and rests her forehead upon his.
She brushes her nose against his and musters the voice to say, “Danny, I’ve been fallin’ in love with you since the day I first met you,” and he smiles back at her. She turns around to take a look at the scenery again, and he places his arms around her waist again. Aiden takes a deep breath and Danny simply whispers sweet nothings into her ear.
At that moment, she looks up into the dark sky and thanks any higher power looking over her, for she definitely is the luckiest woman in the world.
