Nothing had changed.
The small apartment had nothing but the absolutely essential, neat and clean and cold. Small holopics shining on one wall were the only personal touch there.
Leia. Lando. Chewie. Han.
He frowned at the picture. That was a new one, taken on Corellia. He was smirking and... uh... making a gesture that was considered most obscene in great part of the human cultures of the Galaxy.
His hair was shorter now, and had some gray strands. There were some more lines around the brown eyes and at the corners of the smirking mouth. It didn't surprise him, even though it hadn't been so long since they last saw each other. Han was certainly not one who would consider spending time and money in beauty treatments...
Luke dipped a finger in the holopic bluish light, right on Han's chin.
You're still beautiful.
His own holopic had been changed too. It was an old one, taken during the war, in the hangar in Yavin base.
Why did you choose this one? This is not me anymore...
The boy who was smiling and waving sheepishly to the camera had the light of the stars in his eyes and the courage of the ignorant in his heart. That boy knew nothing about darkness, loss and guilt. But now...
His eyes were still sky blue, but not as bright as before.
His hair had darkened, and he had taken to keep it short and carefully combed in an old fashioned manner.
And his face – that had changed most of all. After killing so many, after seeing too much, after learning things nobody should ever learn...
It was the face of a monster.
"Who are you?"
Luke turned his attention to the little boy standing at the door. He had sensed him approaching long before, and knew he should leave before being seen. For some reason, he couldn't bring himself to do it.
It was wrong.
But he wanted.
Just this once, he promised himself. I'll just take a quick look at the boy.
They'd argued some about that name. He found it ridiculous, but Han insisted it was a good name, that it would bring the baby a lot of luck.
"With parents like us the little guy here will need all the luck in the Galaxy." the Corellian had said.
This, Luke had to agree, was true.
The boy cocked his head and frowned. He had dark hair and eyes, just like Han, but the expression in his face – so bright and full of curiosity and hope...
It was a child version of that smiling youth on the wall.
"Are you my father?" asked Link.
Luke crouched down so that he could look at the boy straight in the eyes.
"Why are you asking?"
"I think you are my father."
"Why do you say so?"
The boy pointed a chubby finger at the holopic.
He doesn't see darkness, loss and guilt.
He doesn't give a damn to these things.
He just saw right through the shadows and found me.
Luke reached a hand and carefully – almost reverently – touched the child's silky soft hair.
"Yes, Link. I am your father."
Sorry guys, the humor muse is still not answering my prayers while the dark muse simply won't leave me alone (shivers).
It took me some time to decide to post this - mpreg is not something I feel comfortable writing about, even if it's only suggested... Hope you can enjoy it anyway (toothy grin).
