-:-:-:- Middle Earth University -:-:-:-

Eek. I am so sorry guys. School has just been beating me to death and I don’t have a lot of ‘me’ time to write. But here’s another chapter anyway. Time for the work to start and alittle something in the fraternity/sorority area to rear its cult-like head. And the Turquoise Letter is my knock-off of the Scarlet Letter, just a different name.

Also, since I don’t have time to respond to all my reviewers personally like I usually do, I’ll send a HUGE thank you across the board to EVERYONE who reviewed, and I’ll try to respond personally next time.

-:-:-: Chapter 4 “This is the dawning of the rest of our lives…” :-:-:-

Their very first class was Elvish Literature at three o’clock Monday afternoon. It was one of the requirements for graduating since Middle Earth University was a liberal arts college.

Eowyn, Faramir, Karmen, Boromir, Crystal, and Legolas (who really didn’t need to take the class, seeing as he was, in fact, elvish) were all seated extra early in the very back row of a large auditorium. Several other students were also there early, and still more were filtering in. By the time class was getting ready to start, Eowyn estimated there to be north of about one hundred teenagers in the room.

At exactly three, the doors to the back of the auditorium and one of the side doors flew shut, prompting everyone to immediately be quiet as a two dark-haired elves walked in.

“Hey, I know those elves!” Legolas whispered, looking more than alittle exited.

They smiled identical smiles and sat on opposite ends of the desk at the front of the room. The one on the left started speaking, “Hey, guys. We’re Professors Elrohir and Elladan, and we’re gonna be teaching you guys about Elvish Literature. Now, most of the stuff you’ll have to read in here is gonna be translated ’cause we not all of you understand elvish, but shorter works, like poems, will include the original in Elvish as well as a translation.”

The other started to speak, “You’ll be reading a lot of stuff in here and you have to buy your own books. I suggest you take notes in the book because then you’ll have an essay test on the day it’s due.”

“You’ll also have journal entries almost every day, and short stories and speeches to read on top of that book.”

“And, on top of that, you’ll learn about the history and themes and motifs and styles of Elvish writers. It’s gonna be a long year, so buckle your seatbelts.”

“By next week’s class you need to have read and be ready to be tested over The Turquoise Letter, as well as taken notes over the speech under your desk.”

No one really knew what to say. A week wasn’t very long to read a book, and be ready to be tested over it. And who knew what to make of the Professors. They didn’t seem like Professors. If anything they were more like surfer dudes, not teachers.

It was going to be a long year indeed…

Unfortunately for them, E.L. was not their only class of the day. They also had Haradrim History at six, which left them an hour in between when E.L. got started H.H. started, so they decided to find the bookstore to get their books. Deciding it would be best for them to separate and then call each other on their cell phones when any of them found it, they split up into three groups - Eowyn and Karmen, Boromir and Faramir, and Legolas and Crystal. It was no one’s first choice, but it would do.

Eowyn and Karmen were roaming around in one building - 4C, maybe, they weren’t sure anymore. It was in this building that they had their real experience with new people - three older girls who stopped them in the hallway.

“Excuse me,” a short blonde started, “are you guys freshmen?”

They only nodded.

“My name is Corinne,” she told them in sickeningly sweet, disgustingly preppy voice. “I’m a member of Alpha Epsilon Beta, and we’re looking for new pledges for this year. I think you two would be perfect.”

Eowyn cleared her throat. “I don’t know about that. I mean, we have so much work for this year, I don’t know how we could join a club, too.”

Another one answered her, this one slightly taller and brunette. “We’re not a club, sweetie, we’re a sorority.”

The third one nodded. “Yeah, and we all, like, help each other with the work, and you’ll make, like, so many new friends. It’s so much fun.”

Karmen nodded unenthusiastically. “We’ll, um, think about it.”

Corinne handed them two brochures. “Hold on to those, and use them to get into our big pledge party this Friday. You can even bring some friends.”

Across campus in another building, perhaps 7D, or maybe 2A, a similar event was transpiring.

Boromir and Faramir were walking in what looked to be a science hallway, when they were stopped by two boys, both named Adam, one tall and light-brown-haired (Adam G.), the other short and dark-haired (Adam B.).

Adam B nodded his head at them, his long hair bouncing before he easily pulled it into a pony-tail. “What’s up, man?”

Boromir shrugged.

Adam G spoke up. “You guys wanna come to a party Friday? Free beer and hot girls. All you have to do is think about joining our fraternity Phi Alpha Theta.”

Adam B nodded. “Yeah. Dude, the chicks are all over the frat boys and the parties are hot.”

Faramir fidgeted. “Yeah, well, we kinda already have girlfriends.”

Adam B shrugged. “So? The girls aren’t all, there are the drinks, and the cheats for homework. And, besides, my man, you can borrow my motto: ‘Never let girlfriends ruin your fun…’”

“Yeah, well, I played that game, and I didn’t like it,” Faramir answered.

Adam G took over. “Man, just come and enjoy the party. Bring the little woman if you want.”

“She’s not little, and she could probably kick your ass,” Faramir said.

Boromir joined in, “And mine would be standing behind her taking pictures to show everyone that you got owned by a girl,” he beamed proudly.

Adam G smiled, making his hairlip much more prominent, and he looked menacing for a moment. “We’ll see ya Friday.”

Tbc…

Sorry, it’s kinda short, but I have to have a book read by tomorrow and I haven’t even started, on top of an essay on another book that’s not done, and some pre-calculus and band to top it all off. Until next time…
