He was twelve; she was nine. She beckoned to him to come over.

"Cissy?" he asked her, walking away at from the adults.

"Can you do magic now? No one is looking, no one will punish you." She gave him a warm smile. She was right, he realized – at Mrs. Black's lunch parties, no one payed attention to the children.

"The Ministry of Magic might," he said, trying to impress her. "They can tell if magic has been performed, you know.

She scratched her head. "But Mother says that they can only tell if magic has been performed, not if they're underage. That's what she told Bella, anyways." She looked into Lucius's eyes. "Please, Lucius?"

He couldn't refuse her. He pointed his wand at a leaf on the ground and cried, "Wingardium Leviosa!"

Awed, she stepped back. "Lucius, can you teach me?"

Now she was asking too much, but he couldn't help but grin. She was as eager to learn magic as he was when he was her age – it must be harder on her, though, as she had two older sisters, one already at Hogwarts. Still, he shook his head.

She sighed. "It was worth a try."

He looked at her, taking in her entire appearance, and something struck him – this was the woman he would marry. He didn't know how he knew that, but he knew that he would marry Narcissa Black.
