Chapter 9
He was sitting alone in a corner of the room. He’s jeans were ripped at the knees and his white shirt was getting dirty. Everywhere he looked, it was white and padded. His gift... curse was useless here. This cell was built for it, to prevent him from using it. Still, try as he might he couldn’t see what was wrong with him.
He felt as if he was in an insane Asylum. He was not crazy. There was nothing wrong with him. Why were they doing this to him? Didn’t they love him anymore? Wasn’t he their special litle guy anymore? It wasn’t fair! He had not asked for this, it just happened, it wasn’t his fault.
His entire body began to shake as he felt the moment arrive. He wasn’t sure he could survive much more of this. His meals and his “treatment” occurred exactly at the same time, everyday. It was horrible. They would walk in and take more of his blood, inject more things into him, maybe even test another one of their cures. But that was hardly what the worst was for him. No, the worst was the indifference that they had for his well being. He could scream or he could contort himself with pain or fear. They still wouldn’t care. He was not their son anymore. He was a freak.
Long ago he had convinced himself that they were doing this because they loved him, but that wasn’t so, not anymore anyways. It all changed when he got his ability. They began to fear him, hate him and then, finally, they felt nothing. Perhaps they held curiosity for the unknown things that were happening to him. He had become no more than a lab rat, a subject for their studies.
The door opened and they walked in, syringes in hand. His eyes immediately went to the needle.
“Mommy... Daddy... please, don’t do this to me.” he pleaded, his voice just above a whisper.
His parents kept a straight, cold face and simply walked towards him. He started to feel nauseous. As they walked, their bodies started to form into one shape. John stared in shock as the vision of his parents left, and only Magneto was shown. His majestic cape was flowing and his helmet in place, showing a dark shadow upon his face. John frowned as he saw this person get closer. In panic and confusion his hands went to his head and he felt something weird. He felt long hair. When he grabbed it he realized that it was black hair. He then saw his reflection in the beasty eyes of his enemy. He was Wanda, then as Magneto’s long hand was about to grab him, he woke up.
He snapped himself awake only to find a pair of sapphire eyes looking down at him. He couldn’t help but to smirk at her. She looked so cute when she seemed concerned. Her perfect lips pressed together so softly in oppose to her hard, wriggled forehead.
“Can Oy do something for yuh, Luv?” John asked as he looked around. Rogue seemed to have disappeared, which meant that the two were alone yet again.
“Are you ok?” Wanda questioned, trying to mask the concern slipping into her voice.
John perked an eyebrow and lied “Yeah...”
Wanda gave him a hard stare before returning back to the place she occupied the previous night. She knew he was lying. She had heard him yell. Infact that was what had awoken her. How could someone be like that? Suffer and still have a smille on his lips and be so... cheerful all the time. He had gone through the same she had but they seemed so very different. How could he not crave revenge for what happened to him?
“I heard you yell.” Wanda spoke as she gazed at the floor. The swirling questions in her mind were bothering her.
John’s eyes widened and he blushed. The last thing he wanted was to look weak in front of her. After all, she was one of the people that were holding him as bait to lure in Magneto. He was an Acolyte. Weakness was no option.
“What happened? What were you dreaming about?” Wanda continued.
“Oy was in this white room and...” he began, looking down at his feet. “And... then Oy realized Oy was in the middle of the ocean, water everywere, not one of moy precious lighters in sight, naked. It made me sweat but it really didn’t hit its peak till y’ showed up… in sexy little bikini...” he ranted out, smirking. Wanda glared at him as her blood began to boil.
At the Acolytes base
Magneto held his hands to his temples. He had an important decision to make; much was hanging in the balance. Either he removed Pietro’s security in order to give Gambit some assistance in tracking Wanda and her new friend down, or he risked getting Pyro’s head in the mail by trusting Gambit with all the work.
Gambit... if there was someone that could track them down he would be it, he was a capable young man but his motives, perseverance and determination were emotional. One had to be blind not to notice the attraction he had for that Rogue girl, but then again this was Gambit, a certifiable womanizer, it there was a beautiful girl in sight, he would hit on her.
A knock was heard, pulling Magneto out of his thoughts. Gambit walked in and stood in front of his desk.
“You called monsieur?” Gambit asked, barely giving Magneto a single look. His mind was somewhere else. His best friend and team mate was kidnapped by two girls who wanted Magneto and anything he touched dead, not to mention a girl that could probably kill him with a single touch. Maybe that was the problem. That girl with the poison skin wouldn’t get out of his mind. She seemed much more to him than just a pretty face.
“You’ve been tracking them down all night. What have you found?” Magneto demanded, his back facing his lackey.
“Not much I’m afraid.” Gambit muttered, making his boss turn around “I can tell you dat dey are in Bayville. But I haven’t found de exact location.”
“That’s it? That all you can tell me?” Magneto sneered, slamming his fists in his desk “How hard can it be to find two teenage girls and a crazy pyromaniac?”
Gambit felt his heart race as the thought of his best friend in the hands of someone that had such bloodlust as Magneto’s daughter came rushing back to him. The girl was borderline homicidal and would stop at nothing to get what she wanted, and that was her father’s corpse.
“With all due respect, de Rogue X-man knows Bayville very well, she must have a personal hide out... but give me some more time and I’ll present you the results. Could I have de file you have on ‘er?” Gambit uttered with a firm, decisive voice.
“For your sake...” Magneto growled as he got up and took a place infront of the young man “I hope so!” he added. He reached in his desk and pulled out a folder, throwing it at the Cajun. Gambit nodded, picked it up and left the room. As soon as he did, Magneto’s chair went swirling towards the door. The old man sighed and brought it back to him. He touched it, wondering if it was time to go to Xavier for help. His team knew Rogue better than Magneto knew his daughter, so perhaps they could lend a hand in tracking her.
The mutant shook his head violently at the thought of grovelling to the telepath for help. This was his daughter, his problem, and he was the one who had to fix it.
Back at Bayville highRogue had returned with some food from one of the school’s vending machines on the upper level. She handed some to Wanda as well as some soda and water. The look in her face said that she was getting rather impatient. They both were experiencing annoyance and Pyro wasn’t making anything easier for them. His non stop chatting had become a repetitive irritation.
“So... Sheila... when will you ditch your friend so we can be alone again?” Pyro whispered to Wanda.
“Pyro... for the last time... shut up!” Wanda answered through her teeth.
“Oh come on Luv... why are you denying th’ chemistry that exists between the two of us?” John murmured at her ear with a devilish smirk.
Wanda turned around to face him, fed up with his nonsense, ready to let him have a piece of her mind. However, when she looked at his angelic face she quickly turned back. Seeing this Pyro’s smirk widened and he decided to press his luck even further.
“Y’ can feel it can’t you?” He uttered once more making her turn to face him.
“What, Pyro?”
“The magic that is between us.” He stated as he leaned in to try and kiss her. As he came closer, she began to feel nervous, and a bit odd. She turned her head, not allowing a kiss to take place.
‘He makes me fell weird, it’s as my heart is about to explode, my knees are shaking, my cheeks are red and I fell feverish.’ Wanda thought in only a few seconds, half surrended to the Australian’s boys charm ‘But he’s one of his cronies. He’s a monster just like him!’
Even as she assured herself of these facts, she wasn’t quiet convinced. Her eyes widened as she noticed that random objects around the room had started to glow blue and smash themselves against the walls. An object made its way towards John making him lay back to avoid getting hit straight in the face.
“Wanda...” Rogue called as she too stood up and jumped and dogded the several objects that were flowting around. The sound of her friend’s cry told the witch to stop it. Wanda closed her eyes and concentrated on keeping her powers under control. It was harder this time than it had ever been.
“Sorry.” Wanda mumbled as she got up and headed for the door. When she took her leave, Rogue grabbed her arms with her gloved hand.
“Are you alright?” Rogue questioned her friend, a boat of concern cascaded on her usually emotionless face.
“Yeah... but that idiot is getting on my last nerve.” Wanda growled loud enough for Pyro to hear and get the message “I’m going to catch some air.”
“Don’t go far. We are in hidin’.” Rogue said with a small smile. She then sat down against the wall oposing to the pyromaniac. “Well, well, now it’s just us.”
“Sadly.” Pyro grimaced.
“Stop playin’ with her head.” Rogue ordered.
“Oy’m not.” He protested.
“Wanda doesn’t know the mannerisms of people. She’s been hidden all her life. Ah’m not guna let you confuse her with yoah fake flirting. Yoah not goin’ anywhere, Pyro. Yoah staying until Magneto co-operates, and if that doesn’t happen, you will die.”
“Oy didn’t know X-men killed.” He smiled.
“Ah’m not an X-man anymore. Ah’m an escaped mental patient.” She pointed out, making his complexion turn quite pale.
Brotherhood Boarding House
“Are you okay?” Kitty asked as she sat next to Piotr on the couch. He had been very quiet and still ever since Rogue and Wanda had taken off from the fight. He had continued to feel a shudder from what Rogue’s powers did to him. Most people accused Rogue’s abilities of giving them a horrible sensation, something they had never felt before, and in his case, there was no exception.
“Da. Your friend packs great powers.” He muttered. Kitty nodded.
“Yeah, she’s absorbed me before too. It’s kinda creepy, but like, she never used to do it with such force. She scares me now.” She admitted as she neared him. She placed her hand on his shoulder and gave him an innocent smile.
“Your kindness…it’s uncanny.” He spoke, making her blush. She began playing with her pony tail.
“Um, thanks.” She muttered. She sighed, knowing it was probably time to go home. However, she didn’t want to leave the Russian alone with the Brotherhood. He didn’t belong in this kind of environment, much like she didn’t. He would be alone if she left and possibly bored. She didn’t want to do that to him, especially since he had saved her life the previous day.
“I think I’m going to stay here again.” She said slowly.
“Will you sleep in Lance’s room or on the couch again?” he asked her. She shrugged.
“On the couch. That way if you get bored, you can bother me and we can like, talk and stuff. I mean, I think we can say that we’re friends now, right?” She offered. He nodded.
“That would be nice, and yes, I would consider you a friend.” he agreed as his hand made its way to hers. She tucked a piece of lose hair behind her ear. Kitty gazed up at him, their eyes meeting within an instant. He leaned in closer.
“Kitty!” a voice called from the top of the stairs. The two instantly pulled away. Kitty sat up and tried to fix her hair in order to assure herself that everything was alright. She turned around, her front facing the couch. She smiled as Lance came down the stairs.
“Hey Lance.” She smiled, tilting her head. As the darker boy approached them, he gave Piotr a mean look.
“Why are you still here? I thought you were going home.” He muttered. Kitty shrugged.
“I’m guna stay here one more night and keep Piotr company. You know, guarding Pietro isn’t exactly fun.” She said, rolling her eyes.
“Well, if you’re staying here again, you can have my room and I’ll take the couch.” Lance offered.
“No, I’m fine.” She nodded. “Didn’t you listen to me? I said I wanted to keep him company. He is my friend after all, and he did try and save me yesterday. It’s like, the least I can do.”
“Of course.” Lance growled. “That’s the most important thing, isn’t it?”
“Lance...” Kitty started. He just shook his head and stormed towards the stairs. Kitty sighed and got off the couch. “I should go talk to him.”
“Yes.” He nodded. He watched her head for the stairs. However, he noticed how slow she was going. Usually if someone was concerned about another, they would rush to try and sort things out. However, Kitty just walked up the stairs as slowly as she could, staring at the Acolyte for much of the trip.
Piotr leaned back on the couch, hoping she wouldn’t be long. She was good company, and that didn’t surprise him at all. The X-men seemed nice and couth, unlike the people he was forced to be around. He wondered what would have happened if the X-men got to him first instead of Magneto.
The Russian jolted up as he heard the sound of a slammed door ring throughout the house. He got off the couch and noticed Kitty running down towards the door. He went to try and ask her what was the matter, but she just angrily phased through his body. He turned around and watched her walk through the door. He shrugged and followed her. When he opened up the door, the brunette was sitting on the step, fuming.
“Are you okay?” he asked her. She looked up at him, her blue eyes hard with anger.
“Lance can be such a jerk sometimes! I tried to talk to him, and he just told me to go home. I don’t think he thinks I’m safe here. I am intangible, and I did like tell him I feel better being here than at the X-mansion, but he wouldn’t listen and like, ugh!” She grumbled. Piotr nodded and sat next to her. He placed his arm around her shoulders and lovingly brought her closer to him. As soon as her hair was close enough to his face, he could smell the adoring scent of strawberries.
“I am sure he is just worried for Pietro.” He attempted, almost choking on his words. Kitty rolled her eyes and stared at him.
“You, like, don’t even know who you’re staying with. You really don’t belong with the Brotherhood, or even the Acolytes. I should just go home.” She snapped. She leaned in even closer to him, letting her hand rest on his knee. His eyes widened as she did this.
“You can still stay, even if it is not for Lance.” He murmured. She gave him a small smile.
“I guess, I was only guna stay for you anyways. Though, isn’t it weird that I’m here for you, but not my boyfriend?” she laughed.
“I suppose.” He said quietly. Kitty looked up at the sky, then back at him.
“I’ll stay, but let’s sit outside. I can just wait till Lance calms down, then I will talk to him.” She told Piotr.
“Da, that is the most important thing.” He mimicked, getting an odd look from the brunette.
Outside Bayville High
Remy LeBeau leafed through the large folder in his hands. He had been looking through it for much of the night, trying to figure out places where the girls could be. The folder was a file on the former X-man, Rogue. He had to hold a soft spot for her when he realized what the X-men had done to her. It was almost like Wanda’s case, but not the same length of time. Though he didn’t show it to his boss, he thought locking either of them away was just plain cold.
He smiled when he came across her school records, which were the things that had brought him here. What other place would be a perfect hide out? An empty school in the summer was just right to stow away in. He knew they had to be there.
Gambit flicked out his cell phone. He stared at the numbers, hesitating to call Magneto. He still wasn’t sure if they were there, and he wasn’t aware of what Magneto would do if he came. The Cajun just shrugged and approached the front door. He took out a pick from his pocket and began trying to open the lock. When success shone through, he walked in, his ember eyes guiding him through the darkness.
The hallways were bare, besides the lockers and an occasional vending machine. He smirked as he walked towards one. It seemed to have been torn apart, or possibly even hexed. They were indeed here.
He continued to walk silently through the halls. His eyes widened as he heard footsteps beginning to approach. He immediately hid behind one of the open lockers, staring to see who it was.
Wanda he thought as he watched her continue on her way. He knew she would lead him to Rogue, and to John, so he thought best to follow her. He smiled and began to slowly walk after her every step. Every once and awhile, she would look behind, her sapphire eyes cold with paranoia. Though, she never spotted the Acolyte and kept on walking.
She eventually led him to the basement, which made him smile even more. He liked Rogue’s style. He waited as she walked down the steps, wondering when to make his move. It had to be quick, and he had to be a success, or else he could get nabbed too. He took off his trench coat and laid it lightly on the steps. He then grabbed his Bo Staff and his deck of cards, and slowly made his way down to them.
“Do yah hear something?” Rogue spoke quietly, her eyes leering around the basement. Pyro smiled at her.
“Wanda’s back.” He informed.
“No shit, Ah can see that ya moron. Ah meant someone else. Ah could swear Ah jus heard something.” Rogue stated, removing a glove.
“I didn’t see anything.” Wanda spat. “But it felt like I was being watched upstairs.”
“Be quiet.” Rogue whispered, lowering her body. Wanda nodded and copied Rogue’s actions. Her hands began to fire up that violent blue, readying herself for anything. They both stared towards the stairs for a bit. Since nothing jumped out, they turned their attention back to John.
“Gambit!” the Pyro laughed. The girls whirled around, noticing the Cajun had just landed in front of them. He twirled his Bo staff in his hand, and then jumped into the air. He winked at Rogue before knocking her back with the metal pole. She winced and stared at Wanda, telling her to hex them still.
Before she could, Gambit approached John and set him free from his imprisonment. He threw him a lighter, which caused Pyro’s face to light up with glee.
“C’mon, we gotta get outta here.” He urged.
“What about them?” John asked. Gambit sighed.
“I came to get you, not dem. We deal wit dem later.” He told his friend. John shook his head and pointed at them.
“They wana deal with us now.” He pointed out as Wanda hexed him into the staircase. “Awe, after all our talks, now yer guna smack me around?”
“Shut up!” the girl shouted, hexing him even harder against the basement floor. Wanda turned her head to try and see how her friend was doing. Sure enough, Rogue and Gambit were having a battle of reflexes. Rogue reached out and grabbed his Bo staff, kneeing him along the way. She smiled at him, twirling the staff around just as he did earlier. He grinned and held up a card. Her eyes widened and she stepped back.
“We don’t need to fight, Cherie. I’m only here for my friend.” He spoke.
“Yoah here so Pyro doesn’t die.” She snapped. “Yoah here foah yoah boss.”
“Mebbe a bit of bot’. Being dat he’s my friend, I’d like to see him alive and well, as I’m sure you’d like de same of Wanda. Yuh step back nicely and I won’t have t’ leave ya exploding ta bits.” Gambit replied. Wanda frowned and stepped up behind her friend, her hand glowing. The glow travelled to both of Gambit’s hands, encircling both him and the card.
“Wait,” Rogue started. “Let him go. He’s right. We don’t wana explode. Sides, yoah control was off today, we gotta be careful.”
“What? We can have them both!” Wanda sneered. Rogue shook her head.
“Trust me.” She uttered. Wanda rolled her eyes and let go of her hex. Gambit smiled and bowed to the two females. He then walked over to John and helped him up. They dashed up the stairs without another word.
“What now?” Wanda sighed.
“We’re guna follow em. Since Magneto sends his lackeys to us, yoah’ll never see him. So, we follow em, we find Magneto. You do as you wish, and then we’re off to th’ X-mens.”
