What Is The Price For Becoming Who You Want To Be.

LOCATION, ABOARD THE YAUTJA MOTHER SHIP IN THE FIFTH REGION OF THE GALAXY...YEAR 2182

God that hurts! Stupid little un-bloods going to pay for that! Smug little bastard, he thinks that Jeuki’s pitting me against him to prove that humans are weak. Because this stupid little idiot thinks that prey being smaller than him means it’s pathetic. This is not the point of this demonstration it hasn’t been ever since Jeuki and myself started training un bloods ready for there first hunt.

After this demonstration the point normally gets across. It’s not so bad being the one who gets the point across. I get to break a few mandibles so it’s always entertaining. Frankly though I still prefer the hunts with the older young bloods who are used to me. It’s nice to hunt with those who you know and trust and who are more respectful.

Still it’s not my turn as always Erisoki likes to keep everything fresh in this clan so everyone gets rotated every once in a while. This time Idosoi and Adarmi the highest ranking young bloods and an elder hunter Ute Ji O are doing the hunting on one of the near by planets. I’m here with Jeuki while Erisoki over looks the demonstration.

In all there are five sets of hunters all doing rotations saying this though Jeuki and myself are the highest members closely followed by Idosoi and Adarmi. We make up the top ranks while a number of hunters who have highly ranked take out the hunting groups. This group is the last of the month, since young bloods don’t join the clans during mating seasons two months.

It wouldn’t be a good idea since so many clans have females here and they’d just tear an un-blood who’s foolish in half. Training is not just about teaching them the fine art of combat and weapons. Its also about teaching them the finer points of respect and honour which those who survive will come to truly understand in later life.

In the year 2080 I was thrown on the journey that changed my life and my way of thinking. Just like them I didn’t understand the meaning of honour or respect it was something that I had to learn through hardship. I have no regrets and despite what happened on board the Iron Year science vessel I feel privileged as a warrior to have made that journey.

I also found what I was looking for in my empty life, which before just seemed so lonely and depressing. Jeuki changed all that in so many wonderful ways, that I can’t describe. I never believed that at the dawn of my second year with Jeuki that I’d be his partner as well as a high-ranking member in a Tosuji Yautja clan.

It blows my mind just thinking about it, I mean it just seems so unreal but it is real. As real as the blood running down my chin from this un-bloods fist blow. Emma turned sharply splitting out the blood that was in her mouth. She watched as the un-blood with his short dreadlocks flared his mandibles in annoyance.

The un-blood pulled back as he roared Emma narrowed her gaze this was what she’d been waiting for through out this fight. This was the move that Jeuki always laughed about over lunch it was used so much by pups. It was a last ditch attempt when they couldn’t get at there opponent or there opponent was running rings around them.

She turned she hadn’t really landed many blows on this infant but somehow she didn’t see the point. He looked like the dumb ass type who used brute force and wasn’t very patient. His only blow that had made contact with her and not the floor in this five-minute fight was just a glancing blow. She moved slightly on her foot.

She turned her self sharply to one side as the un-blood flew forward. She grabbed the back of his leather belt, her knee came up full force slamming in to his lower mandibles causing a spray of green blood to fly through the air. She watched as he howled in pain as she slammed her foot in to his ankle as he rose up holding his face.

She narrowed her gaze as he lost his footing slamming in to the floor lower mandibles first. He groaned turning as he painfully picked himself of the floor. She watched as glowing green blood flowed from his lower mandibles. He looked down as it hit his chest he red eyes suddenly narrowed he roared again in anger. Emma took a step back.

She watched as he pulled out both clawed hands he wasn’t going to charge again was he? Was he that stupid? She watched as his clawed feet slammed in to the floor as he came at her again his mandibles flared. Emma raised an eyebrow he was that stupid, she moved closer to arena’s edge before slowly coming to a stop.

She watched as his clawed hand opened, as he got ready to grab her. She turned sharply moving out of his way before he could react. She looked up slightly seeing his eyes show horror as he saw the arena’s edge. The sound of his claws scratching as he fell of the arena’s side hit her ears followed by a hard slam as hit the out side arena’s lower floor on his front.

Erisoki sat up from his chair he moved forward his gaze turned as he looked around him at the seven standing un-bloods who where all completely silent, there mandibles lowered in shock. He slowly leaned over the fallen pup who was rubbing his still bleeding mandibles. “As this demonstration has shown you all, your prey is never to be underestimated.”

He put a hand on his chin before turning slightly. “Size means nothing and your prey no matter how big or small may well have intelligence that matches your own.” He raised a clawed hand. “Emma is well trained and among her race there are oomans who are just as well trained. Although they wouldn’t fight like her.”

He breathed in slowly. “Believe me one of these days those of you who prove your honour and worth my very well hunt oomans.” He raised his clawed hand pointing at Emma. “So those of you with misplaced arrogance should learn from this demonstration as well as learn from Emma and Jeuki. Through them and the other lower ranking hunters you will learn what it is to be warriors!”

He slowly pulled out his prized spear he pressed it watching the sides come out complete with there slicing blades. He watched the wounded pup that had lost the fight get to his knees and stare in ore at his weapon with along with the others. “Honour and glory await those who prove there worth as warriors! You are members of the great Tosuji clan embrace your bloodline!”

Jeuki tapped his upper mandibles watching as the little pups burst in to roars and howls of pride. He loved this little demonstration it brought back so many memories of his youth. Watching these little un-bloods with their double crests and small mandibles get worked up before there first true hunt was really enjoyable.

As always the pup with to much mouth had been bled by Emma and had lost the fight on the arena. He loved watching his beautiful mate do this it she always seemed to take some so much pleasure in almost teasing these pups before really hurting them. A part of him loved watching Emma being violent it made his blood boil with pleasure.

It was a something of a guilty pleasure, which he really enjoyed. He slowly raised his hand tracing the two long scars one of which went through his crest while the other ran through his upper right mandible. Over a year he had gained these scars and they had changed his life. He had also met Emma through them and started a journey of self-discovery.

One of which had led to her becoming his mate. He breathed in deeply; he didn’t care that she from another species. He was proud to be her mate she was a warrior it was in her soul and she had proved it. She had earned her rank as Erisoki’s third in command while he had been made the second. He was proud of there accomplishments, which they’d achieved together.

He didn’t care for the so-called opinions of other clans over his mate’s high rank. It wasn’t like they understood anyway they where still backward in there views over oomans and other intelligent races living among Yautja even if they’d earned there place and become honored prey. The other clans who had been respectful to them had understood there view because they’d had honored prey in there clans as members at some point.

Erisoki rules where final any dishonorable action against the higher-ranking members would be severely punished. The five Tosuji clans Arbitrators had also agreed with the rules along with a few new ones. Which had replaced the some of the old leaders unnecessary and harsh rules. Erisoki had now fully taken his place as the new clan leader and no one dared challenge him.

Jeuki looked up slightly listening to the roars of confidence die down. He moved forward nodding respectful to Erisoki he watched as the pups fell silent as he raised his clawed hand. “Tomorrow Erisoki, myself and Emma will take you all on your first hunt! There you will take down your first kill and become young bloods!”

He tapped his upper mandibles watching as all the pups roared again with confidence. He slowly raised his hand again watching as the roars slowly died down. He calmly walked over to the pup who’s lower mandibles where still bleeding. He put a hand on his shoulder. “Do not see this as a defeat see it as a lesson. A lesson that may save your life one day.” He patted his shoulder. “Now go to the healer and get yourself cleaned up.” He watched the pup lowered his head in respect before moving towards the door.

Erisoki slammed his spear in to the ground. “Go and rest now all of you! Tomorrow you prove your worth!” He watched as seven other pups ran from the room everything slowly fell silent. He turned slightly seeing the huge door close behind them. His gaze moved as he turned to Emma who was looking at the blood on her fingers. “Very nice display.”

Emma moved jumping of arena. “Always a pleasure.” Jeuki slowly moved forward putting a hand on her back rubbed gently. “Are you okay?” Emma looked up slightly. “I’m okay Jeuki it’s nothing but a little blood.” Jeuki gently leaned over. “I thought from the force of the his blow that he might have broken one of your teeth.”

Emma smirked she slowly leaned over pulled a cloth that was soaking in glowing blue water bowl near by. She squeezed it then pulled it up to her face cleaning the blood off her chin. “He wishes.” Erisoki laughed slightly he patted Jeuki’s shoulder. “Frankly I found the look on the young pups face when he realized he was about to tumble of the edge most amusing.”

Jeuki turned laughing with him. “It wasn’t half as funny as when his face hit the floor.” Emma turned laughing with them. She turned slightly. “I’ve made seven new armour front and back plates to replace the ruined ones used by our other young blood group.” Jeuki tapped his upper right mandible. “There all resting in the pit right now.”

Emma put a hand on her breathing collar. “They all hunted very well we only lost two out of the seven.” She turned slightly. “Unfortunately the two loosing there lives was there own fault for not paying attention.” Jeuki moved closer to her. “Not all young warriors listen it’s the way of things.” Emma turned taking his hand. “I know I was just hoping in that hunt that they would.”

Jeuki lowered his mandibles feeling her hand across them in gently motion. “They died a good death which is important.” Emma looked up slightly feeling him move a hand through her hair. “I agree there’s no dishonor in falling to hard meat.” Erisoki moved forward slightly. “Tomorrow will be a good hunt I can feel it in my chest.”

Jeuki turned slightly. “As always if you believe it to be so then I trust your feelings.” He watched Emma nod. Erisoki turned again. “You two go enjoy the rest of your day.” Jeuki nodded respectfully watching as there mighty leader calmly left the room. He turned taking Emma’s hand. “I can’t wait to see these pups in action tomorrow.” Emma nodded calmly. “Same here I think Erisoki’s right it’s going to be a good hunt.”

ABOARD THE ULTRA SERA TRYING TO OUTRUN THREE OTHER DROP SHIPS.

Lucy turned sharply grabbing a full syringe from the medical compartment she turned looking at the woman on the bed near by her. Blood was still leaking from her wounded mid section. She felt the ship swerve but ignored it they didn’t have time for this. She leaned forward moving the woman’s long brown hair of her face.

She eased up the syringe noticing the woman’s blood shot blue eyes move which was followed by a painfully cough. Lucy turned sharply as the ship swerved again. “Marcus! Can’t you keep us still!” Marcus turned sharply in his seat in the front of the drop ship. “No I can’t keep us still! We’ve got three sodding drop ships trying to get up our ass!”

Lucy turned opening the large control panel she began to type the controls quickly watching the blank screen come on. “We can outrun those bastards! Turn the hyper drive on!” Marcus turned sharply. “Lucy please just heal that woman and let me worry about the hyper drive!” Lucy turned slightly she eased up the syringe noticing that the wounded woman was still looking at her.

She leaned down slightly. “This will stop the pain and the bleeding Hannah.” She watched the older woman nod. She eased up the syringe slowly inserting in to the woman’s neck. She watched the liquid go in before pulling it out. She grabbed a medical pack smashing it open she ignored the feeling of the ship swerve as they avoided another space rocket.

Marcus pushed up his shining glasses. “This is crazy we never should’ve gone to help her!” Lucy slowly pulled the bloody blanket back looking at the wound, which had been made by a bullet at point blank range. “She begged for our help! She risked her life just to send that message to us! She was desperate!” She pulled out a wet cloth and began to slowly clean the ugly wound.

Her gaze moved as she watched woman’s eyes move. “I can’t believe that evil little platinum blonde bitch shot her at point blank range!” Marcus sighed aloud. “I can, she related to Oran for one!” He snarled swerving as the drop ship closest tried to fire again. “You know rotten apples don’t fall far from the tree!”

Lucy rolled her eyes. “Seriously Marcus shut up!” Marcus turned sharply. “Don’t tell me to shut up! This was your idea! I mean you save this woman who we barely even know and she’s got some association with Oran’s family!” Lucy slowly began to ease the bullet free from the wound with her medical tool. “No her association is with Emma’s family!”

Marcus turned sharply. “What?” Lucy pulled the bullet free ignoring the woman’s cry of pain. “Her name is Hannah Wingates! She’s Emma’s mother.” Marcus blinked before swerving again as another drop ship tried to take a shot. “What the hell was she doing stuck with Idorama’s evil little bunch? I’m guessing she didn’t go with them willingly.”

Lucy turned sharply. “You want to get to someone who got rid of a member of your family you get at there family.” Marcus turned he slammed his hand down on the hyper drive controls. “This is messed up!” Lucy looked up sharply. “No kidding.” She turned grabbing the bed as she heard the roar of the hyper drive coming online.

She looked down at the woman. “Just take a deep breathe Hannah we’ll have you home soon!” Marcus slammed the controls forward he looked up as the metal plates moved over the window ready for hyper speed his gaze turned as he looked saw a drop ship come up along side them. A voice hit the air. “Surrender your vessel immediately! And hand over the woman you captured from Idorama’s home!”

Marcus sneered clicking the panel. “Oh your hilarious, I’m sure she was really enjoying her stay on the tropical planet of Endoras surrounded by you people with your guns.” The voice came back. “Hand her over or we’ll open fire!” Marcus felt the final click as the plates clamped down. “You tried that already you all suck ass at shooting!”

He smirked as the voice came again. “Hand her over now!” Marcus clicked the panel. “I have two words to say to you people! Piss off!” He turned slamming the panel down hard only to feel the force as the hyper drive engines blasted out. He turned sharply looking at Lucy. “Hang on!” He grabbed the controls as they moved forward full force.

Lucy grabbed the bed as the rumble hit the air as they flew forward. Marcus turned watching two of the plate’s moved back showing the beams of light of hyper speed he felt the ship steady. He turned sharply looking in to the back compartment where Lucy carried on working on the woman’s wound. “Doesn’t Emma have a brother?”

Lucy watched the woman cough. “Yes on Eros the mining colony.” Marcus turned back to controls. “Well then that’s our next stop.” Lucy pulled out some clear liquid pouring it in to the woman’s open wound. “We should send a message to Emma.” Marcus raised his eyebrow. “Seriously that might not be wise I mean this might be a ruse and Hannah might be the bait.”

Lucy pushed the woman down as she began to howl in pain. “Where the scout ship! It’s our duty to report this to the Tosuji clan.” Marcus turned slightly. “ Your right, I’ll send the message.” He turned slightly. “Where the hell is Eros anyway?” Lucy turned typing the panel near by she ignored her bloody fingers. “Second region of the galaxy it’s the forth planet of the fifteen.”

She raised an eyebrow. “There are only two other thriving colonies in that sector, the first is a pine world colony that grows fish reserves for earth and other colonies. While the others a huge ranch for Rhynth meat, Marcus turned sharply. “Rhynth you mean those ugly rhino things that they used to farm on Ryushi before the colony went to hell?”

Lucy turned back grabbing more medical tools. “Yeah those things.” Marcus cringed turning back. “Rhynth meat tastes foul, I’d rather eat beef from cows.” Lucy looked up slightly. “Beef is nice but you really pay for a steaks its 44 credits for 12oz.” Marcus smiled he turned slightly. “Tastes great though.” He turned slightly. “How is she doing?”

Lucy pulled up the drip slightly. “She’s stable I’ve managed to stop the bleeding and give her both inner painkillers as well as blood steam painkillers.” She grabbed the flesh-healing tool from the kit. “I really need steam cells to fully repair the scar damage which is going to be bad.” Marcus breathed in deeply. “The colony on Eros is very advanced right?”

Lucy looked at the panel screen near by. “Well it’s an old colony four generations old in total, I doubt there backward.” Marcus laughed slightly. “Well if it’s that old we should be fine.” He turned back looking at the monitor. “We’ll be coming out of hyper speed soon and we’ll properly come out just over Eros. The landing might be rough but this ship can handle it.”

THE EROS MINING COLONY, ON THE HIGH PLATFORM OVER LOOKING THE HUGE CITY.

Ian leaned back in his chair, another boring day on Eros. He let his gaze wander to the Roi-Hoi pens bellow the huge ugly horned wolf like animals snorted as the pen owner came over rubbing there heavy furred hides. He breathed in as another man came around tossing in there breakfast. The huge slabs of Rhynth meat hit the floor in each pen with a dull thud.

He watched one of the animals roar showing of its razor sharp teeth as it moved towards its breakfast. He sighed aloud watching the huge animal that was almost the size of horse slam it’s horns down forcefully before grabbing it’s breakfast and pulling it in to the corner of it’s pen. It’s long wolf like tail moved as it started to chew through the meat.

He breathed in looking at his beer, Christ those animals where going to get fat if they didn’t stop feeding them like this. At least he could say that Emma’s animal, which he still, looked after wasn’t that overfed. Roi-Hoi despite being far faster than horse didn’t run so well on two legs and all fours if seriously over fed.

He pushed his black hair out of his eyes before pulling down his workers helmet. Another day another credit in the bank and somehow he didn’t care anymore. He was bored of this place, he still kept on going over in his mind what he’d heard about the Iron Year science vessel. Also the fact that two white ribbons of bravery hung on the wall of his late fathers house still made no sense.

None of it made sense! He’d read that stupid earth report so many times and he didn’t believe it. It all had to be some kind of cover up there was no way in hell his sister would run of with some ugly faced male alien! Emma wasn’t like that she didn’t do crazy things! She was rebellious, stupid but doing something that insane wasn't like her!

He leaned back folding his arms, he was sick of thank you letters and gifts plus the whole event still had the whole colony shook up. He snarled aloud frankly he would’ve rather had the truth. The real truth being that she did survive Callisto and had been rescued. Then had worked for Oran on a project that she’d gotten attached to. Then had done something foolish like click the wrong button and open the alien pen.

His sister wasn’t a killer ether and there was no way in hell that she’d killed a cyborg or what ever that project was. Turned the off switch maybe but not killed. Emma had never been able to even fire her grandfather’s gun probably, how could she kill anything? It wasn’t in her nature. On top of that she’d probably fled to hide from her mistakes, which she’d made while working for Oran’s company.

That whole earth report was full of crap, all just cover-ups as well as white ribbons which where just to keep the peace. These ribbons making his sister look to some like a traitor and to others a hero. He grunted aloud Earth Core was full of bull anyway, he’d never liked reading there uninteresting reports plus the agent Michael Rio Andro who’d come here to talk to him about Iron Years so called real events was a pencil pushing moron.

He looked at the dusk sky, although there was never much change apart from a little darkness he could see the night was coming. He turned his gaze slightly he was about to close his eyes when something caught his eye. He looked up slightly seeing what looked like some kind of comet fly through the sky full force.

He looked down sharply the younger Roi-Hoi below roared and slammed their horns in to the pens in panic. He turned seeing Luke come out of the transmission tower. The younger man turned pressing the alarm causing an emergency siren to hit the air it’s noise blasting out over the colony bellow. Ian threw his beer aside looking at him. “What the hell is that!”

The man turned sharply. “A drop ship it’s coming in to fast!” Ian raised an eyebrow. “You’ve gotta be kidding me! Drop ships don’t drop that fast!” Luke pulled a cigarette in to his mouth. “Yeah well this son of bitch is!” Ian watched as a bunch of colonists grabbed the well-trained Roi-Hoi from near by pens along with medical supplies as well as other gear.

Ian turned sharply. “How the hell do you knows it’s a drop ship!” Luke sneered at him before sounding the emergency siren again. “It’s sending out a bloody help signal Ian!” Ian looked at the still falling light ball, which looked to be slowing slightly. “Do you think they’ll be okay?” Luke looked up. “I damn well hope so, I don’t want to see the poor son of a bitches die!”

Authors note. Man I hope this was at least a half decent attempt at the sequel to Does The Soul Define Who You Are. I know this is a strange start it had a few rewrites to get it right the first start didn’t really work.
