Hi, my name is Mary. I am the librarian of the tiny village of Mineral town. I am the daughter of Basil and Anne. But that’s not my story yet...

The story...

There was this new boy in the town. His name was Jack and he came to this village to inherit the old man’s farm. I didn’t mind him much, I was just too busy writing my current novel “The tale of the black rose”.

But one day...

He came in without me knowing of it. I was simply writing and murmuring to myself. The library wasn’t really that popular to the village so I didn’t really concentrate on my work.

“Hi “he said

“OH! I’m sorry! I was busy writing my novel” I said hiding my work.

“What are you writing about?” He asked trying to look at my work.

“Umm...no, please. It’s not finished yet. Umm...So what are you doing here?” I asked finally hiding my novel.

“I’d like to borrow a book please.” He said in a smile...He was kind of cute.

I blushed a little, hopefully he didn’t see me blush...”Umm...okay, but we’re not allowed to let anyone borrow books. You just have to read the books in the library.” I said while adjusting my glasses.

“Oh...Well that’s okay.” He said with obvious disappointment in his voice.

“You can knock yourself out with our books. We also have a second floor, you can read there if you want to.” I said trying to cheer me up.

“Thanks...” He said in his warm smile. He seemed to cheer up a bit.

“Oh! By the way, I’m Mary.” I said while holding out my hand to shake his.

“I’m Jack.” He said while accepting the handshake.

“I know. You came here to take your grandfather’s farm.” I said and smiled.

“How did you know?” He asked curiously.

“Everybody knows that. Mayor Thomas said so a few weeks back. Anyway, good luck in taking the farm.” I said and smiled.

“Thanks, well I gotta go now. I still have to tour around town.”He said while waving his hand.

“Okay, see you around. Visit the library if you need help. My father has some books about plants and stuff.” I said, a bit shouting, just making sure he heard me.

“I’ll come back don’t worry. Well see you tomorrow.” He said while closing the door.

“He’s cute...gasp”.I suddenly found myself thinking about him. I mean I just met the guy and I think I’m going gaga over him.

No, maybe I just like him as a friend. He is after all new in the place. I mean how could I have a crush on him already?

But anyway, that’s not important right now. I still have some arrends to do for mom. I locked up the library and went to the rose square. I got there and happen to see another boy about my age. He was rather cute, blonde hair and blue eyes, he wore a blue hat and a gray jumpsuit. I walked over to him and said hi.

“Hi, I’m Mary.” I greeted to the newcomer.

The boy didn’t see me a little while ago and I guess that he was a bit shocked. “Umm...Hi...” The boy said to me, embarrassed most likely.

“What’s your name?” I asked curiously.

“My name’s Grey. I’m kinda new around here.” He said, he seemed to blush a bit.

“Really? What are you doing here?” I asked curiously.

“My grandpa forced me to move here. He wants me to become a blacksmith like him.” He said while frowning slightly.

“Where are you from anyway?” I asked as I adjusted my glasses.

“I’m from the city.” He said casually.

I smiled “Really? I’m from the city too!” I exclaimed happily, we finally had something in common.

“Oh really? Cool! So where do you live?” He said smiling for the first time...He looked cute when he smiles.

I found myself turning red but managed to reply” I live next door to the vineyard.” I said.

“I live next door to them too! Wow! I hope to see around! Well I have to go now , I have to meet my grandpa. Bye...”He said as he walked away.

He was very nice. But then I heard a familiar voice call me.”Hi Mary!”

I turned around and saw Jack. I smiled”Hi Jack!” I said and waved my hand.

He cam closer to me and we chatted a bit “Fancy meeting you here.” I said

“Yeah. Quite a coincidence really.” He said and smiled. The one thing I noticed about him is that he is always smiling. He was so cheery, he was so... unlike Grey...

“So, how come you’re out of the library?” He said while continuing.

I gasped”Omigosh! I forgot Mom’s arrends! Sorry Jack, I have to go. I need to do something for my mother. Bye!” I said while leaving.

He simply waved with a smile on his face. He is always smiling... I think it can get quite contagious. He really is cute... But anyway, I did my mom’s arrends and went home.

Chapter 1:

It has been a few days since I met the newcomer, Jack. He visited often, except on Mondays because my dad forces us to go to his little expeditions on Mother hill. However, I was quite shocked to see him that early in the morning on Monday.

“Jack? What are you doing here?” I asked still quite shocked.

“I’m here to collect some flowers. Here, this one I picked for you.” He said as he handed me a Yellow Moondrop flower and smiled proudly.

“Thanks.” I said while I gladly accepted his tiny gift.

“So why “are” you here? Really?” I asked while sniffing the flower.

“I’m here to pick up some things. I need some more money to buy some more seeds for the farm.” He said while looking at the top of the hill.

“ And the flowers?” I asked while grinning quite broadly.

Jack blushed and said quietly “Umm.. They’re for... Karen...” And he blushed

a little more.

“Ooooohhhhh...Jackie has a crushie.

“Ohmm... A little courting I see...” I said mischievously in a smile matching the way I said the sentence.

Jack turned a little more red. He really is sweet, kinda makes you smile when you see him squirm from embarrassment. He looked so cute.

He managed to give out the courage to say something” Please don’t say anything to her. She’ll think I’m desperate! I bet she will say that I’m pathetic! Please don’t say anything! ” He pleaded . His eyes were somehow...magnetic. He looked so innocent. It makes your heart melt.

“Don’t worry you can trust me.” I said with a smile.

“Promise!” He said firmly.

“You can trust me... Don’t worry. I won’t tell. ” I said promising him.

He smiled and looked at his watch “ Oh! Look at the time. I’m running quite late. Anyway, gotta go. See ya! And remember, you promised.” He said slowly running back to his farm most likely.

I watched him slowly going away, and I smiled. My mom walked next to me and said.” He seems to be a nice boy. Do you like him?” My mother asked in a playful smile.

“Of course I do. He’s my friend.” I said.

“I think that’s what convinced you. But in reality, you like him more than a friend.” Mother said in a smile.

“How would you know?” I asked curiously, the truth was...I never really knew what love was. So...I asked.

“I just know. I was like you when I first met your father..."
